Wasn't sure where to stick this question, but the last couple years of BK's tenure he had a sports psychologist on staff and several players spoke very highly of her and how she was extremely helpful. Is she still around?

She went to LSU with him

It’s crazy to me that players need a sports psychologist. And we want to know why the younger generations are soft.
the world is weird now and getting weirder. It isn't like our day (before automobiles and such).
I can understand the rise of psychologists.

OMG I just watched Marcus Freeman’s Presser. Oh boy. We have a head coach that was promoted too quickly and we have an office of coordinator that was promoted too quickly

I think he was fine.
We are use to Brian Kelly who in my opinion is/was magnificent in press conferences. Freeman does not know anywhere near as much about football as BK.
Some of the questions the media asked are pretty stupid.

They also never had to deal with the amount of pressure and constant scrutiny/negativity. It would be hard for most people to deal with, even highly skilled athletes.
This.
I received so many shitty texts from family about Buchner that it was unreal. Only two starts AND he wasn't even the biggest problem.

? With his guy? Why would a successful OC come to tutor and prop up a "head coach"? No, Freeman isn't going to be fired. We are stuck with him.

Good grief. Rees is who he is and Freeman signed up knowing it. The fact that Freeman didn't demand another OC should have clued you to Freeman's ignorance and ambition. Freeman inherited a team with good personnel. He knew we lacked a QB and he didn't do anything in the offseason to address. Why? Because he was too busy acting. My hope is that these three games have embarrassed and exposed him enough for him to become serious with his job. Otherwise, we are looking at Ty 2.0.
We should have gone after an experienced head coach. Freeman is not the man at this point of his career.

What if I told you that you don't know that for a fact but it's a great, untestable hypothesis?

That's not a hypothesis. Modern psychological care has tested, verifiable positive effects on mental and physical health.

To say a person living in the past would not also benefit from mental health care simply due to the date range of their existence is absurd.

You may as well say Tommy John surgery wouldn't help a 1930's baseball player.

Sports psychologist isn't something recent or fairly new. I can remember teams using them back in the 70's. The difference today is that it is a more regular occurrence.

I wish Dr. Miguel Franco was involved with this team's mental approach.

I think this team maybe over coached. I say this because they look so slow. Marshall and OSU looked faster. Tyler and both lines are thinking do much they are getting beat. They should get better over time

Benefit from mental health and improve their play isn't the same thing.

Are you guaranteeing that a sports psychologist traveling back in time would've helped players in the 60s/70s play better sports? Feel free to present studies/data to support your view (especially those that have been replicated), I can be won over. I think it's very hard to say how a new psychological modality would've affected players (people in general) in the past.

If the whole group of sports players had access to a sports psychologist and it returned positive gains, wouldn't the whole filed be elevating their play, so we'd see the same approximate deltas between average, good and great players?

I agree 100%. The two teams that beat us looked loose and just went and played football. ND kinda looked like a high school choreographed musical where people know what they have to do but theyre worried about not doing what they are supposed to.

Who thinks Freeman intentionally threw the first two games so he could pitch to recruits that we need you?

Really sad how nasty some fans can be about 18-22 year old student athletes. They have brutal workloads, their entire day is basically planned out for them and they have to endure vitriol from so called fans.

This not 100% the case anymore. Look at Lenzy got a kick ass scholarship, traveled all over the place and is now getting paid and he still isn't good.

They should try playing in the SEC then. Only there, they get it from every fanbase in the conference.

"they have brutal workloads"

He was talking about student athletes. Not SEC salaried employees.
That's on Notre Dame. Even Stanford gives their student athletes a more reasonable workload to deal with. It's not cfb's fault that ND is more hard-core than even Stanford.
As far as fans and the media, though, ND is cupcake city.
