Also, this sounds like hard headedness and not ready to make necessary team changes Why Marcus Freeman believes in Riley Leonard as Notre Dame's QB… Maybe this is one final showing confidence publicly in RL and to encourage him for Purdue, but he better be ready with some Angeli Primavera warming in the oven because having 2 losses would surely jeopardize an ND 2024 playoff opportunity.

I thought that last year watching UofM and JJ Mcarthy. An Ian Book type could have easily run that offense and been just as successful. Harbaugh and staff knew JJ's limitations so the ran an offense best suited to their personnel. I can't remember the last time ND was as run heavy as UofM was last year, late 90's I guess. And nowadays when so many defenses are designed to stop the pass (ours included) the run is very much a neutralizer. You just need to be committed because when you face a good defense, the ground game sometimes only starts to show fruit in the later part of the game when the def is worn. Our staff/s always seem to try to run their scheme vs aligning it to match the type of player ND gets on campus and develops.

Great point. You know football

Angeli with RL as a Buchner-like battering ram on short yardage is my preferred setup going forward. He's still a good scrambler, and generally a big guy that falls forward. Gives some optionality on 3rd and 1 with him and Love / Price in backfield that Angeli can't provide
RL the battering ram?
More like porcelain ram.

Ehhh…not the one that featured Carlo Calabrese playing nose tackle due to lack of depth.

The best d lines Kelly ever had were guys recruited by Gilmore and coached by Elston.

It's Coaching 101. By Monday morning, TAMU should have been in the rearview mirror. If they were drinking kool aid by Tuesday, that's immediately on him as the head coach. Full stop.

You can't possibly tell me with Tressel and Holtz as mentors he doesn't know this.
Tressel specifically mentioned this to him, which is why MF said he put them through two hard practices. Would love to see a video of MF's halftime talk.

Does Freeman get another HC shot at another school if he is canned?
Have a look at so many others who have. I'm going to guess yes. He may not have to wait two decades like Bob Davie, and he might not get an immediate second job like Willingham and Zook did, but you'd have to think he gets a crack at one in the midwest somewhere.

Worst thing to happen is he gets a DC gig for a couple million a year. Maybe analyst with his buddy Fickell for a year prior to that.

Wouldn't it be better to recruit players that fit the scheme and not having to change it every season. It would be better for efficiency at all positions too.

Teams change year to year and injuries happen, so coaches need to make adjustments accordingly. Im not suggesting going from five wide spread to single wing based on your QB. What I'm saying is ND regularly recruits very good linemen, TEs and RBs. Their offense should be centered on that strength. Eg, if the offense runs 70 plays in a game, 45-50 should be runs and 20-25 should be passes. That puts the fate in the hands of our best players, takes the pressure off the QB , and hopefully through creative play design gets our generally less talented WRs more open so our QB can under throw them by 10 yards 🤣 ... I kid , I kid but thats the point.

Leonard better have a short leash because it’s Freeman ass if he doesn’t. I’d like to see Angeli with Leonard getting some snaps in goal line or short yardage. Besides that we need to get at a point in our program where we are getting 2-3 5 stars a year Georgia and Ohio State are getting 5-7

So does CJ transfer because he isn’t a perfect fit for Denbrook’s offense?
You scheme around player’s strength not the other way.
