Penn State 247 board is claiming that Freeman hasn't signed his extension with ND yet and that the deadline for it to get done has come and gone. TIFWIW Penn State Coaching Search Hot Board 13.0
All the insiders and ND reporters are going to take a huge hit on their credibility if for whatever reason Freeman bolts for a non-OSU/NFL gig.

It’s been all sunshine and roses since January.

Yep, I’m sure Freeman is leaving and he’s taking Aneyas Williams with him. Sounds like something they both would do.

Yes I’m sure ND imposed a deadline on contract negotiations that actually came up BEFORE when they finished last years contract. If MF even thinks of walking into Bevaqua’s door that thing is closed shut

Some of these coaches must have realized following the BK episode that the grass isn't always greener. And he isn't the only coach who underwhelmed after going from one 'tier 1'-type job to another. Lincoln Riley and Jimbo Fisher are in the same category. You don't have goodwill built up with the new admin/fanbase they way you did at the previous job.

Of course, it worked out for Saban and Meyer, but they both had a hiatus from college in between.

In my world, BK made the right move.

MF has produced the two best (highest power rated) ND teams since the early 90s in 2024 and 2025, in only his 3rd and 4th seasons as a head coach.

Today, we would be a 3-5pt dog on a neutral field to OSU, which is the closest we’ve been to the top of the sport since the early 90s as well. We were an 8.5pt dog at kick at last years title game.

Hope the board can recognize that this isn’t a BK 10 win team where we’d still be a 10+ pt dog to the top of the sport. We’re right there and only going to get better if recruiting stays on track.

And next years team should be even better

I think if ND's head coach was Kelly they would be left out of the playoffs at 10-2 this year.
Oh this isn’t even a question. Especially since a big part of our goodwill from this year is a result of the playoff run last year which never would have happened if BK were HC. We also would be 12-16 in advanced metrics rather than Top 5 given the talent level would’ve stayed flatlined to where it was 5+ ago.

Exactly also if anyone has noticed Freeman hates punting, I'm not sure where to look but I'd love to know where we stack up on number of times we punted this year compared to other teams, he loves laying his balls on the table and going for it. You can almost bet your ass if we are inside the 50 we got 4 plays to get a 1st. Kelly on the other hand would punt at the 45 or 40 or take a knee with 45 seconds left before half.

Does anyone else think it's weird that they haven't announced another contract? Obviously, he got a big extension last year, just seems like everyone getting paid right now with this crazy cycle.

I assume it will be announced after the CFP is announced, think it was last year as well

Is there any advantage to announcing a new contract? This isn't a public university with a responsibility to publish salaries. The only real reason you'd announce it is for publicity at this point is perhaps attaching a donor's name somehow.

I don't know for certain, but I wouldn't be surprised if Bevacqua drops a nugget in an interview in the spring about 'adding a few more years to Marcus's contract.' Sometimes more is less.

It would quiet the bedwetters fretting about the Penn State job, for one thing.

Given all the other extensions announced lately, I’m a little surprised we haven’t. (Vandy, also private, announced Lea’s deal last week for instance).
But we do things our own way. And there’s been no legit smoke of Freeman entertaining any interest. So it’s probably fine.

Not really.

I think there’s a level of trust that ND will do right for Freeman.

It could be both parties didn’t want to try to do anything until the regular season was over.

I could see a scenario where Freeman’s agent wanted to see if there were any outlandish contracts so that he could ask for a match.

I don’t have any fear that Freeman is going anywhere.

I had the thought that Freeman might be betting on himself similar to how he did last year.

I can see where they want to wait until the playoff run is over to add to the momentum. Announcing now just becomes another story giving all the coaching carousel news.

Extension was 12/15 last year. ND doesn’t need to win the presser in November. If anything the timeline for extension goes more with the NFL carousel.

The most Marcus Freeman move would be that he didn't want to outshine the heisman love that Love is getting right now, and let him be the "face" of the program the past week.

I think they did it right before Indiana, right?
