im not sure about elston as DC, just not sure what your getting in a first time DC. i'd rather go with a proven DC, but he does now the system but how good would he be with in game adjustments on the fly.

I think they only proven name you’d get coming in would be a mentor of Freeman. Which is Fickell haha. The level of control between Elston and him will definitely be interesting

I guess they could ask Tressell at UC but pretty sure it’s Elston already

The two staff positions that are currently most up in the air are OL coach and WR coach. No one really knows for certain what is going on with those.

ST coach is Polian who is likely taking the Lafayette head job. So it sounds like we have 3 openings… at least until the next round of coaching hires that typically occurs during bowl season.

thanks Lax.

Do you guys think we should make an assistant coaching search thread? Maybe a thread with everyone who is currently on it, what the will coach and news about the three of four coaches that we will be pursuing?

Why do people keep talking about a QB coach? I doubt part of Rees' raise was to get that extra money and also NOT coach a position. Besides, that's really the only position he's coached. I doubt he becomes the new OL, WR, or ST coach.

Doubt it happens either but I think the argument for it would be previously we had:

BK: some overlook of offense, hand in QB development
Rees: Main oversee of offense, play caller, QB coach

With a defensive HC, that leaves some vacuum for input and you could go:

Rees: Play caller, overall oversee offense, hand in QB development
QB coach: coach QBs

It would give the QBs someone who could exclusively focus on them. Not a bad idea, IMO.

It turns out MFMF is actually not out recruiting right now. He's finalizing the contract stuff. Everyone else is though and a bunch of them are together hitting the high profile/flip-worthy dudes.

David Cutcliffe, the Mannings, someone named Daniel Jones and a partridge in a pear tree.

should ND fans be worried that the ND football program will be lead next season by a 35 year old with no head coaching experience and a 29 year old OC/QB? i like both MF and TR but man thats a lot of pressure for two young guys who no longer have the 60 year old BK to lean on for knowledge, advise and answers when things start getting tough.

The pro is as OSU and ND players, they were born in the pressure cooker already

Do you trust any news and/or social media outlet??? The only 'info' 'news' I adhere to nowadays is for the weather - and they are 50/50 AT BEST!!!

Used to trust AP and Reuters for news, but even they've lost their way a bit in recent years.

I'm not worried so much about the lack of experience. I think he's learned under some very good HCs in recent years that he can borrow from. My main worry is he's going to take on too much himself from a resources perspective. He's got a shit ton of duties now as HC, lots of appearances for boosters and media, extra recruiting responsibilities, etc. It's a lot of extra commitment, especially for a young man with a young family. I'm confidant he can do the job, I just hope he doesn't get burned out or takes too much on himself. Hopefully he can delegate a bit.

It's a risky hire, imo, but low risk, high reward. If it doesn't work out we can move on easily. The cupboard would probably not be dry at that stage. I think that given the talent, etc., we will at least do as well as under Kelly (i.e., 9-11 win seasons).

SportsCrack is on top of it again. They've got a new shirt available now:

I think I should mention that the owner is an ND fan, which is probably why a good bit of their merchandise is Irish related. I talked to him after he was flying back from the FSU game this year. Tried to talk him into making the "Execute or be Executed" shirt, but it doesn't look like that panned out

Our new head coach is awesome.

Wife probably had a congratulatory present waiting for him when he got home.

Sorry if this has already been discussed but are we aware that Mrs. Freeman is a 10?

Our new head coach is awesome.

Wife has to be Italian with those names. Sound like a group of Sopranos characters. Maybe he is Catholic.

The Kool Aid is too intoxicating and comforting. Freeman is Knute, Ara, and Lou all rolled into one. There are pre order championship shirts being invoiced as I type. Remember this year was the rebuilding year, next year is the Championship march. The hysteria is F'ing insane. The hangover after reality hits will be sad to witness, and Freeman should not to be blamed for delusional fans and an incompetent administration.
