3. Lou Holtz is a legendary coach, a model citizen, and loves Notre Dame. I'd pick him up from the airport on a Friday during rush hour and grab his favorite fast food on the way.

I think there's two thought processes here. If you have the safe, anti-inflammatory guest it may result in no one tuning in. People feed on the opposite. Throw a little drama in and it will probably bring listeners. It's why the View is still inviting guests with opposing viewpoints and tends to keep a conservative on staff, they know the drama brings ratings.
On the other hand, if they keep bringing on guests with the same mindset they could end up alienating half their viewers that don't want to sift through the garbage. You'll lose people quicker than an Alec Baldwin talk show.
