Why is Chambliss getting a sixth year seen as a “confident” whereas Onye getting a sixth year seems like long shot?

I don't think you have to request a specific year. I think you have to show that you missed the equivalent of a season due to circumstances beyond your control.I very much want Onye to get another year, but if they deny Chambliss a sixth, it seems like it would be hard to justify giving Onye one.
Onye wasn’t injured in 2022, right? He just wasn’t ready to play beyond the one game. And in 2024 he played in five games before missing the rest of the season. Which of those years is he trying to get waived?

Well, there is a 4 game limit on a medical redshirt, but they are about to change that anyway, from what I hear. The waiver should be granted for Onye, if the case manager isn't a complete dickhead, which they tend to be.I don't think you have to request a specific year. Tom Mars is the GOAT. From Arkansas no less.Ok, I'll take this one seeing as I am also an Ole Miss fan (forgive me).
Chambliss has only really played 2 years of football. He did have a redshirt year, and he actually was medically unable to play in another but pursuing medical redshirts in division 2 isn't really that standard. He and his coaches never thought he would get a crack at a P4 school in FBS so they never bothered with filing the paperwork. So, he has all his paperwork that the NCAA requires in their own rules. The weird part is really why they denied his waiver in the first place. He met all of the conditions. That being said, there is a lot of bad blood between the NCAA and Ole Miss. (Don't even get me started on our last round of probation. That was complete B.S.)
There's also a bit of home-cooking built in. His lawyer has taken on the NCAA several times and is undefeated against them in court. The judge in the case also sits in Oxford, MS.
So, he meets the requirements to be granted a waiver and has home field advantage in court and a damn good lawyer.
That's where all the certainty comes in to play.
Just for the heck of it, if ND actually did win it all next season, who would you want to see them beat in the Natty?
Breaking our title drought over Dante Moore led Oregon would be pretty funny considering his whole recruiting saga imo.

Bill Connelly has ND winning in '26 as the 3 seed.
1st rd bye, then wins over Southern Cal, Oregon, and UGA in the Natty.
I still would prefer USC not being in the playoffs.Beating USC in the playoffs would feel so good.
The greatest story IMO, and impact going forward, would be toppling Ohio State.
USC is returning most of their production besides Lemon? I guess if you don’t include Lane, Lucas, McRee, Ramsey, Nicholson, Fitzgerald, Gentry or Thompkins
Maiava and the OL is back otherwise, yuck.
Indiana, Ohio State, Miami or USCJust for the heck of it, if ND actually did win it all next season, who would you want to see them beat in the Natty?

That's a pretty good 4. I would throw in Meatchicken and Ped State as well.Indiana, Ohio State, Miami or USC
Even better if they miss the championship game for the fourth straight year.Or a resurgent Bama.
Beating an otherwise dominant SEC team would hammer it home with 4 northern team nattys in a row.
I was thinking about this instead of paying attention in meetings this morning.Just for the heck of it, if ND actually did win it all next season, who would you want to see them beat in the Natty?

I thought about this earlier this week, and I figured Oregon was a very legit possibility... however i would love to beat tOSU or Texas for various reasons... however I will say a lead up to a UT title matchup would have me on absolute pins and needles all week and that would be ZERO fun until we won the game.... so, Oregon or tOSU is prob my offical ttile game matchup. It would be nice to beat bama on the way there, too.Just for the heck of it, if ND actually did win it all next season, who would you want to see them beat in the Natty?
