The play calling was not stellar (for either team in the 4th quarter), but my bigger concern as someone who was rooting for Bama was the total mismanagement of the clock on the last possession. Not sure if maybe they just aren't used to being in that situation, but it was handled very poorly.

Yes, I've never seen a slower 2 minute drill. They could've preserved at least 4 more plays had they hurried to the line and executed or spiked the ball. I was also rooting for Bama because I didn't want tOSU's legitimacy strengthened.

Now the suckeye fans will be insufferable. I'd put my money on Oregon in the final.

Yeah, clock management was atrocious on that last drive. We could've had at least 2 more plays and maybe 3 or 4 with better use of the time we had.

Lane's done a good job for us this year, but missed it tonight. Your suggestion is exactly right: we should've just run it until OSU's d-line was exhausted. Good front 4, but not enough depth to hold up for 3 quarters against that sort of onslaught. Kiffin tried to get fancy and ended up outcoaching himself.

He won't change. He's done it more than once while at USC.

The offense really wasn't the problem here. Elliot's 11.5 ypc was, which is on Saban.

Why he didn't just keep feeding Henry the rock is beyond me. Almost every time he took the ball to the edge he picked up 5-7 yards.

At least keep running it until you force OSU off Amari's nuts so you can get the best WR in the country involved in your playoff game.

Blake throwing that last pick was just Busch league but Kiffy can't get out of his own way.

On the other hand it wasn't like Bama's defense was all that good either. They never really got a pass rush going and failed to control Elliot.

Speaking of clock management, I am lost on that play where it looked like the WR fumbled on the last drive. What was the actual call? Was he down? If they called an incomplete pass, the clock kept running. They never explained or showed a replay and I was watching with 8 people (two who played college football) and none of us could figure out what happened.

It was ruled a reception and the ball popped out due to contact with the ground, so no fumble. That's why the clock kept running.

this. Ohio State's offense gashed that "vaunted" SEC defense.

I think Kiffen did a pretty good job at Alabama this year all things considered. The guy was starting a converted RB at QB for god sakes.

Alabama has had all this success under Saban, but for some reason in 8 years he's never been able to get a dynamic QB. A QB with a true NFL future. Just a bunch of mediocrity at that position surrounded by a ton of talent at the WR/RB and OL positions. If Saban was ever able to get an Andrew Luck or RGIII or Mariota or Jameis to come play QB for him, yikes.

I mean look at Meyer this year at Ohio State. He has 3 QB's just this year better than anything that Alabama has had in Saban's entire tenure at Alabama.

Thank you. Did they say that during the broadcast? We never heard it if they did.

Yeah...couldn't figure out why they moved away from the run. Especially because they jumped up 21-6. And then if you are going to air it out, air it out to the top WR in college football. Just crazy. Kiffy is to blame for this.

I think a lot of Urban's success with QB's comes from his system. When has he ever had a bad QB?

At Utah he made Alex Smith a Heisman contender and a first overall draft pick. At Florida he made Tebow one of the best college players ever and Tebow clearly doesn't have a ton of arm talent. And now at OSU he's had 3 different QB's all play at a Heisman contender level. Little early to lump Cardale in that same category but he tore up a good defense in Wisconsin and what is widely regarded as the best defensive team over the past decade in Bama (although that defense has been a little down the last 2 years).

I guess my point is that I don't think those QB's necessarily play at such a high level if they weren't playing in Urban's system. The dude is a damn good coach and knows how to get the most out of his QB, no matter who it is.

All his QB's have had talent for sure...but his system and his development of his QB's is what makes them so great. If Blake Sims was on OSU's roster I bet he would tear it up just like Miller, Barrett and Jones.

No, they didn't, but the fact that the refs spotted the ball where the receiver went down made it clear they thought it was a reception, and when it popped out nobody seemed to think it was a fumble and the OSU players & coaches didn't complain about it not being ruled a fumble.

I thought the officials did an excellent job all night. I didn't think there was a single call against either team that was wrong.

There is no doubt that Urban is a great coach with a great system. No doubt. Alex Smith has been a starting QB in the NFL for over a decade though, and Tebow was a 5* QB recruit that everybody, and I mean everybody wanted in high school. Tim did play in the NFL for some years and start in a few games. Has any QB under Saban at Bama even sniffed the NFL? I don't know if he's had one QB throw an NFL pass in a game. The QB's have been that mediocre.

I see Sims as a poor mans Braxton. Neither has very much arm talent, but Sims is nowhere near the explosive, dangerous athlete that Braxton is.

JT Barrett has a good arm and can run a little bit.

It might be a little early to anoint Cardale Jones, but man that kid oozes with talent. He is every bit of 6 foot 5 and 255 pounds and he has an absolute Jamarcus Russell like cannon for an arm. That kid can really throw the shit out of the football, his arm strength is off the charts good. You also don't want to tackle him when he gets a head of steam, he's a load to bring down. I think he's probably the most talented QB that Urban has had yet.

My point is simply that Lane has done a pretty decent job as OC, considering what he's had to work with at QB at Alabama. Lane is a pretty good OC, nothing more, nothing less. I think if he stays on long enough, that Alabama will finally start to develop some legit QB's.

We're definitely on the same page. Agree with most everything you said. Reps.

One of 2 things here. Either TTT is Kiffin or TTT is the next OC at Bama.

Lane Kiffin is a great example of a guy that falls up.

The guy is the posterboy for failing upwards. It is unbelievable that a sane person would hire him. I thought that Harbaugh getting chased out of SF was a reflection on him, but it is starting to look like Jed York is just an incompetent imbecile between this and hiring a buffoon of a D-line coach when he could have had a handful better, proven guys. Would have been a perfect place for Rex, I think.
