Neither kick was Brindzas fault yesterday..I was on the goalline on the XP...the ball rolled to turk. When turk got it the ball was on its side on the ground. The other one was at the opposite end and from a few sources that were actually on that end they also said the snap was atrocious. This is not to put blame on anyone bc Cowart has done a hell of a job throughout his 4 years, but at the sametime...neither kick yesterday was on Kyle.
You need to look at the highlight. The snap and the hold were both perfect.
On the XP it was an aweful snap. You need to look at the highlight again. U r wrong.
Im gonna have to agree with this, its nothing against Kyle as a person and im sure everyone here supports him. If you're feelings get hurt you shouldnt play football. How many kids dont make the team? Should coach kelly let everyone walk on the field because he doesnt want anyones feelings hurt? We all want Kyle to succeed not only for the team but for him. If no one ever criticized then no one would ever strive to get better.I'm sorry but I guess I have to be the guy here that gives a reality check. In all sports... I don't care if it's a sport like mine where very few people give a crap and we only occasionally get on ESPN... or a sport as big as the NFL... when you don't perform up to expectations you get criticized. It is a fact of life, and you have to have thicker skin. Sorry, I know people are probably going to scold me for this... but it's ridiculous to come on here and chastise people for saying "kicking was not good enough."
I have not seen one person take a shot at Kyle, the person. I have not seen one person cross the line... but it's possible I missed a post that was really bad. You need to get used to people on the internet venting about things that give them heart attacks watching the game. It happens for every team in the country... pro or amateur. And what you're complaining about here is 10x better than what happens at most places from less "courteous" fans. Here are some quick examples:
Boise State kicker victim of threats, taunts | CollegeFootballTalk
2012 NFL Playoffs -- San Francisco 49ers' Kyle Williams received death threats - ESPN
A few unlucky seconds will haunt Baltimore Ravens kicker - Chicago Sun-Times
We're not the only people who criticize either. Media members criticize, the coaches on the team I'm sure criticize, etc. It's how stuff works in sports!!! The chewing out I would get from a coach would be 10x worse than anything I might choose to read on a message board.
And if/when Kyle goes pro... guess what, it's not just harmless key strokes from people he doesn't know that he worries about... he'll straight up get fired. Asking people not to complain about execution errors in sports is like asking it not to rain in Seattle.
Sheesh. Bring on the neg reps... but someone had to say it. I promise you EVERY SINGLE PLAYER who has ever started for ND has been criticized at one time or another for a mistake... and I'm sure many of them much, much worse. You're the first relative to get on a message board and act like it's a big deal.
I just want to note I've had Brindza as my kicker in fantasy since day one. And not because I'm a homer.
Walk on? Where did you get the idea he is a walk-on? The kid was an early enrollee and has a full ride. So, I'm betting there are no "I feel sorry for you, I'm going to let you play" thoughts long through BK's head at any point! He's trying (they all are in fact) to win games!!
That wasn't at all what he was saying. Irisheyes never says anything close to "Kyle is a walk-on."
He was talking about all of the people who don't make the team, ride the bench, etc. as an example of sports being tough... that there are hundreds of kids who get criticized by people who actually matter (i.e. the coaches) every year and accordingly have to deal with that as well as the tangible effects of that criticism... like not playing or being left off the team.
In the hierarchy of "I should give a crap"... caring about a couple people you don't know saying "special teams was bad" on a small message board that you have to optionally choose to read is at the very, very bottom. And on top of that... I still have yet to see a post that was actually offensive towards Kyle.

That's a list of a half dozen or so people off the top of my head who have taken 100x more criticism than Kyle over the years... and some of it far more harsh to the point I could actually see someone getting upset about it. Yet none of their relatives have ever gotten on here and said "shame on you!!!" seemingly because they realize this is a worthless message board where stuff often gets posted in the heat of the moment... and it's mostly posted by ignorant fans not worth their time.
You get praised when you do well, you get criticized when you do poorly... this has been a truism of sports since the dawn of time. Deal with it or bury your head in the sands. Those are your choices.
I believe that we can learn much by calmly listening to Kelly talk post-games. After this one he was reading off a listing of problems that we had, and "inconsistency in snapping the ball", cruised right out there and past many people's ears, apparently not registering.
One thing about kicking or any other mainly mechanical but uber-precise talent: it is absolutely VITAL not to have "noise" going through mind nor body. By "noise" I don't mean crowd noise [guys who have played and done these things know what I'm talking about --- I used to coach freethrow shooting for instance]. They must be able to overcome even small matters which can get the mechanics even slightly off.
One of those things is "doubt". One of those doubts is whether the snapper is going to get it to the holder sharply. If the snapper has been inconsistent about this, there will be doubt, even subconsciously. Even mediocre snaps in a sequence including a bad one here and there, are trouble. Lots of this commentary shows incredibly shallow understanding of the holistic issues involved in these tasks. Boggles my mind.
As to Kyle's depth on kickoffs: some of this looks planned; some of this looks to me like he's occasionally too jacked up. He needs to become a confident Shao-lin monk. Just cool as a spring breeze in mind and let that big legpower lift the ball out of sight. And it's also "materials science" that the ball loses flexibility in cold weather which demands a more precise striking to get the desired effect, especially directionally.
So it's because you are a bad fantasy owner.
Nope. It's cause I knew he'd end up our kicker. And I knew we'd struggle to punch it into the endzone.Kyle has attempted 23 FGs this season. Tied for 2nd among kickers across the nation. He is in 3rd place (after a two-way 1st place tie) for FGs made with 17.
One day a kid said: Coach why don't you just cut the bottom out of the baskets?
And the rest is history.
Do remember that we couldn't get a phonebook under his feet on his vertical.
I probably won't read an entire book about kicking.
