I've heard all the stories of being told to sit down, but it has never happened to me (4 games) in our section that we always sit. But this year at the USF game, my buddy went to seats about a section over with some guys that we met during the first evacuation. 2nd half starts, our section (right where TJ let the ball bounce off his face) was going nuts, especially us, and some d-bag (not very old, maybe mid 30's) with his 12-ish year-old daughter yells at us to sit down. We're like, "Hell no bro, you sit at home! You need to stand too!"

2 minutes later, he comes an usher with a cop telling us we had to sit down. Un-effing-believable. Our season was on the line and we had to sit?????? We could only stand on 3rd down. I felt so bad for the daughter, having a father like that.

It's not just the elderly guys, it's even people far younger, and it's a friggin' joke...

That is terrible and embarrassing for that to happen at ND stadium.

obsevations game day

obsevations game day

I just traveled about 2k miles to the UM and MSU games, I go every few years. My thoughts- that Jumbotron(2) at UM was freaking amazing. Absolutely loved it. In my mid fourties. It even pumped up the ND players before the game blaring great music -I guarantee you. Eveybody STOOD up the whole game! I really dont think the noise hurt ND -I know some like TEO were jacked and loved the animosity!
At ND still loud but I always wanted a replay, ex. Atkinsons kick return. Only half the crowd stands on a big play, besides students, still pretty loud. A jumbotron is soooo needed-have you seen Mississipi States-thats cool but wont work with our architecture.

Lastly, saw lots of players up close walking to practice during the week and after game. Lynch and Tuitt are beasts- Troy Niklaus just as imposing if not more so. Jonas Grey also a very big dude in person. Lynch changed that whole game! I think I saw Philip Daniels after the game, Davaris dad- talk about a huge speciman!

Finally, can we stop turning it over this week????

The Golden Sons has found your #NDNation quote of the year. LINK

Cash at NDNation:

“There are many topics on which we can all have vigorous discussions and arguments, but this is not one. A goddamned jumbotron is utterly antithetical to the Notre Dame those of us who built this site believe in.

This is not up for discussion here.”

Cash at NDNation:

Wow. First of all, Cash needs to change his name to 'Change', or 'Coins'. He lost the right to that moniker with that post.

Second of all, you guys think I'M a Nazi? That dude is about as big of a moron is you're going to find. Not up for discussion? Seriously???? Disagree all you want with a jumbotron, but it IS up for discussion, and it IS coming, I'm about sure as of that (as long as BK wins, he'll get his way)....

You have to remember, these are the same older alums that write in telling students how disgraceful the "Go Irish, Beat X, Suck it X, Go Irish, Go!" chant is. They don't like having to stand up and the ushers don't have much choice in the matter. I liked the suggestion someone had elsewhere in the thread that all of these people be relegated to a higher section in the stadium. When they order tickets, there should be a "LAME" option that they can check. I also hate the crowd in the gold seats. I realize they pay a lot of money for those seats but they literally never stand, not even on 3rd, and they're the first to leave. During the Stanford game, those seats were empty by the middle of the 3rd so my buddies and I went down there. The ushers just shrugged. It's horrible.

Jumbotron is coming. Kelly likes it. He says he's not in charge of the decision, but his eyes were gleaming like we know they do. Kelly sees it as both in-game excitement booster and a fairly big recruiting tool for modern day kids. People might as well spew their venom while they can because they're riding a losing horse on this one.

I think near the end of this decade, there will be a stadium renovation and then the Jumbotrons will be added. I don't think they'd just add the screens.

It has nothing to do with a Jumbotron, but I think it would be cool to have one of our home games played at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis...probably because I use to live in Noblesville, IN just north of Indy......much better drive than going up to South Bend.

WHEN Kelly starts winning, and winning big, he will get what he wants. And he wants FieldTurf and it sure sounds like he wants some videoboards.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish coach Brian Kelly wants a Jumbotron at stadium - ESPN

Haven't seen this posted anywhere... I'm good with a JumboTron, I just want it to look classy as can be, like the one in the Stadium renovations or whatever it was thread. A jumbotron built into brick would be awesome and with a big interlocking ND on the back of the brick facing the parking lot. Then TD Jesus would be able to watch the games again.

At least you didn't start a new thread!

I say wait and see if BK will win first. I would hate for him to have a jumbotron put in and field turf, just to get canned a year or 2 later. I think he will win and I think he will get whatever he wants! Bart Scott said it best....

First I'd like to see another deck added on to the stadium bringing it to 100,000 plus. Jumbotron is small potatoes to that IMO.

Wouldn't mind seeing a horseshoe type of thing in which TJ could still watch the games

A bigger stadium isn't necessary.

1. It would put an incredible strain on the campus and surrounding area. Another 20,000 to 25,000 people coming to South Bend---there'd really be no room to move on campus. It'd be that much more difficult to get hotels, food, etc. It's just an all-around logistics nightmare.

2. It would cost a lot of money to add that many more seats, and probably not the easiest of projects to drop another new ring on top of the previous new ring around the bowl. Word is that the school is going to be renovating and fixing the stadium at some point in the future---is it smart to use millions to add those seats when the rest of the stadium needs repair work and upgrades?

3. The new seats would be really far away from the field and pretty crappy seats anyway. Is it worth it? It's not like tickets are that hard to get nowadays---plus we'd be opening ourselves up to breaking the sellout streak. Some people think the sellout streak is a sham, and I would think it really would be if 25,000 more people were needed every home game.

4. The students are already a small part of the crowd in comparison to other big state schools---do we really want to put more people in there and make the students even less of the overall crowd?

I can think of many reasons why there needs to be some video boards inside the stadium, but I'm not really sure why it's deemed important to add more seats. The stadium is already big enough---it would be the 4th largest NFL stadium---and quite frankly it's a perfect size right now.

In fact, I can't think of a real positive to adding more seat besides being able to gloat how big the stadium is---and how important is that really?

I'm just curious, are students turned away that want to attend games? Is the demand larger than the supply? I've never heard/read anything about the student section and if there are students turned away that want to attend. I'm sure the IE boards could help answer...

I like the idea of jumbo trons. I think people get this idea of a big neon scoreboard that's an eye sore but with technology today the jumbo trons are much nicer than you think. I went to a game at Fenway this summer and obviously being from Chicago I couldn't help but compare the old park to Wrigley. I thought the jumbo trons were amazing. Didn't take away from the nostalgic atmosphere at all and really were just a cool way to entertain the crowd. I wouldn't mind seeing video screens like that in Wrigley or ND Stadium.

I've heard that ND has looked into building a new stadium in white field.

As for a strain on the campus and local are that shouldn't be a problem. There is going to be a lot of development east of ND in Mishawaka. There is a stretch of road that connects the bypass with the toll road. They have stated that Hotels, New IVY tech campus and other development will happen on that road. There's a ton of land out there.

As with any problem-solving discussion it is necessary to be clear on one thing: what exactly are we trying to accomplish?? As far as stadium size is concerned, that in itself is not much of a criterion just to get bigger for the sake of getting bigger. What does getting bigger do for you?? More money from ticket sales?? That seems to me to be a poor reason given our ability to generate cash. A louder stadium?? Loudness, once you get to this size, is a product of who's in the seats not how many more casual fans show up. I'm not seeing what we'd gain.

On the other hand, if it was a choice between expansion and upgrade, the choice of upgrade should be clear. If upgrade included Jumbotron, and that wowed both fans AND RECRUITS, then that choice is utterly clear. If upgrades do not mess up "ambience" such as a continuing view of the Library Mural, but raising the stadium height to block it does, then the upgrade choice becomes triply clear.

I'm for choosing quality over quantity every time I can.
