You gotta credit the OKie St OC as well. They adjusted to ND’s aggressive D and used their aggression against them while exposing the ND defensive backs. I don’t recall many blitzes getting home in the second half. If anything they did Sanders a favor as he simply split the middle and raced to another first down.

ND got out-coached. There is no waiver wire in CFB so Elston/Mickens/MF knew what they had in the defensive backfield. Their plan worked for a good part of the first half but that defensive plan was built on swampland b/c it collapsed in the 2nd half & Rees wasn’t prepared to adjust to a shootout to at least give the D a rest.

That's it in a nutshell. Great first half, but no answer to the inevitable halftime adjustments of OSU.

Most effective in CFB? Wow that's lofty. He's effective because he was part time. When he's full time teams will game plan. This is why part time guys come in and are able to be effective. I'd be shocked if he was able to keep that up being full time starter.

It's not, look at how effective he was in limited reps. He shredded teams on the ground, not to mention the impact on team YPC when he's in.

It needs to be mentioned how poor the OLine played also. I understand OkSt has a good run D but being unable to move the ball on the ground is pitiful!

Thank God this ND team didn't make it to the final 4. Would have been another episode of clubbing baby seals.

And...the Ohio St backup WRs are better than ND's starters.

We're really one of the most giving team in CFB when it comes to landmark victories for other teams. Michigan may be the only team that's better in that category.

Except we got screwed. The would you rather scenarios were getting whooped in the playoffs or winning a NY6. Losing a NY6 was never an option.

I know no one wants to hear this much optimism

But I think this close loss will be more motivating than a smackdown would have been.

The only reason I say this is,unlikely Kelly,Freeman seems like the kind of guy to get pissed off for greatness. He is not going to accept this and he's going to be an angry man.

Kelly would have blamed someone else
​​​​and gone out golfing tomorrow.

Not a good day. Just sat through my three teams all losing….. Arsenal(1-2), Munster rugby (8-10) and now ND (35-37). Going to sleep pissed off.

I’m so fucking tired of this. We haven’t won shit in 25+ years. Every time we get beat in a big game, as long it’s not one of our traditional rivals or Bama, it’s the pinnacle achievement of that program. Oklahoma state beat a higher ranked Stanford in the fiesta bowl in 2011, why is this considered bigger than that? Add in that NY6 bowls aren’t as prestigious now with the playoffs, an empty stadium due to covid, and dog shit 1pm EST kickoff time stacked against the Citrus bowl and Outback bowl, ensuring poorer overall TV ratings….. no Mike Gundy, this was not the biggest win in your programs history.

Let it out brother I feel you. End of the day we are gonna be here hopefully being optimistic then wanting to jump off a cliff. I n my laid back 8 mixed drink mind I’m looking at the positives of this. Everyone has been telling mf how great he is going to be for a month and his team came out great but couldn’t get through adversity. Nothing I’ve seen from him makes me think he isn’t a great person and will work his ass off. I think this is a blessing in disguise to a person I think can energize this program to the next level. It’s up to him to do it because he seems like he could

The tackling (or lack thereof) reminded me of the beginning of the season. Sooo close on many times of dropping their QB for a loss, only to let him squirt out of the pocket for a huge gain time after time. That and Coan's lack of mobility (nothing new though) were the most frustrating for me to watch. Oh well, better luck next year!

It was the same defense we fielded in September and October. They never really got better, they just faced really bad offenses in 4 straight games of November. Red herring there. It sounds like we'll be playing a number of freshmen on defense next year and it's probably a good thing even if there will be more growing pains.

The problem was having a new guy calling the D. It wasn't until about halfway through the 4th when t looked like MF was calling the D that they started to slow OSU down a little. Elston was calling a blitz on damn near every play and when you blitz every play, it's now the norm and the O can easily adjust.
