I am a little worried about us playing man against those receivers. I remember Ohio State torching Michigan a couple years in a row, when Michigan was mainly a man to man defense. Of course, urban was the coach then not sure if Day was the offensive coordinator for those games.

I think Golden will have a good plan for this. He'll probably have some hybrid man/zone system to monitor how we're holding up on deep routes and to see if he can incorporate more man coverage. If the corners are able to hold up, press at the line and not give ground, then Golden has all options on the table.

If they are losing their matchups, we'll probably see a much higher percentage of zone with lots of different looks to try and get in Howard's head.

Klatt believes the path for ND to win is inviting OSU to run. Nebraska, Michigan, and Texas had success with this approach.

ah tbh 2012 (to the point we are at now, few days from the natty) was an amazing year with so many stories and big plays and victories
I really do recall it fondly despite the final outcome. Kicking Miami's ass at Soldier Field, the OT goal line stand against Stanford, beating SC in Los Angeles. First unbeaten regular season since 1988. Beating Michigan....chef's kiss.

My daughter was five months old when they played that Stanford game. For the goal line stand, I was standing about two feet from the television holding her. She was facing out kind of hanging on my left arm. When the defense made that stop, she officially became a member of the family. I was delirious.

This. Their weakest offensive unit is their OLine and running shortens the game. Running the ball is also how they lost to Michigan.

It’s the key to the game. Put more in the secondary and dare them to run or make difficult throws.

Have some close friends that are pOSU fans that we might invite over to our place to watch the game. While they are "mostly reasonable", they are pOSU fans after all. I thought it might be good to lay down some ground rules.

1. Anyone who refers to pOSU as THEE Ohio State University will be asked to leave immediately.
2. Anyone who even comes close to lifting their arms over their head to start the O-H-I-O cheer, will be immediately kicked in the balls, no questions asked.

I'm looking for other suggestions.

Why stop close friends from enjoying the game and doing their ritual traditions?

I had an OSU friend ask if I wanted to watch with them at an Ohio State friendly bar and kindly told them to kick rocks lol. Unless I was actually at the game I wouldn’t want to be anywhere near an OSU fan.

So you think I'm really going to kick them in the balls? It's a light hearted joke list that I'm creating to get a reaction. LOL
Kick them, no.
Get red assed when they’re doing O during pregame? Maybe.
I wouldn’t want that in my house or around me, but I watch every game alone.

Enjoy! Go Irish!

I think the recipe to win is for our defense to flat out overwhelm their offense early and often. It will take tremendous effort and attention to detail by all 11 on most plays along with an offense that stays on the field and finishes drives.
I think this defense is built to win any game they play so long as the offense does whatever is needed.

Don't let them do that silly "O-H" from one person to "I-O" from another person.

They should do whatever they want, in their own house.

People who have people over to watch high-stakes Notre Dame games are, well, not me. I watch games with my wife (who also went to Notre Dame) and our 14 y/o son (who gets it). Occasionally my dad. It is not a social affair.

If ND can establish a decent run game, they can Win. It's been who they were throughout the season but they have been challenged significantly with that in the playoffs. Denbrock and Rudolph need to be creative and motivate the OL.

This Ohio State team isn't the second coming .... not to derail the thread, but I truly believe 2019 LSU, 2020 Alabama, 2011 Alabama, etc. would annihilate this team. Hear me out regarding this and why Notre Dame can and, more importantly, will win....

  • Ohio State is already coming into this game with 2 losses already - one, at home, against an average Michigan team. Ohio State also had a couple of "shaky" wins as well (see Nebraska and Penn State).
  • Will Howard, like Leonard, has limitations with his arm. Howard, however, cannot run as well as Leonard.
  • J.T. Tuimoloau and Sawyer are really good players. They are not, however, up to Carter, Mykel Williams, or Jalon Walker's level. Point being, Notre Dame's faced better.
  • Jeremiah Smith and Egbuka are great. Tate's good as well. But, arguably Notre Dame's biggest strength (you can make an argument RB group > secondary) is its secondary. Ohio State WRs are going to make their plays, but at least Notre Dame isn't subjected to a "physical" mismatch that you simply cannot account for (e.g., Tyler Warren). And, again, Howard is no Joe Burrow... if ND can generate enough consistent pressure on Howard, that will really neutralize all of their receiving talent.
  • They've got good line play....well, so does A&M. So does Georgia. So does Penn State. Point being, Notre Dame has played comparable talent (some having better individual talent) to Ohio State. This isn't anything new to Notre Dame.
  • Ohio State has been on a rampage since losing to Michigan. Well, take a closer look.
    • Tennessee and Nico were abysmal on the road all year (lost @ Ohio State, lost @ Georgia, lost @ Arkansas). At OU, Nico was 13/21, 194 yards, 1 TD. At Arkansas, Nico was 17/29, 158 yards. At Georgia, Nico was 20/33, 167 yards. At Vanderbilt, Nico was 18/26, 257 yards, 4TDs, 1 INT. At Ohio State, Nico was 14/31, 104 yards. Other than Vanderbilt, Nico and the Tennessee offense was extremely pedestrian on the road.
    • Oregon was an impressive win. I don't personally believe Oregon was as great as people may have believed (see the Idaho game, Boise game, Wisconsin game), but I'm not going to knock Ohio State on that .... that was an impressive win.
    • Texas had Ohio State 1st and goal on the goal line to tie the game and potentially go into OT. Sarkisian, the dolt, got too cute and wanted to run a sweep 10 yards deep and we know how the rest played out. Just run a QB sneak under center ... it's first down. You'll get in ....
Point being, I've listened to some ND podcasts and have read a lot of "regardless what happens Monday, it's been a hell of a ride" or "we're happy to be here and this season has been a tremendous success". Fuck that. Notre Dame can win this thing. Notre Dame has proven it can go toe to toe and blow to blow with anyone and physically dominate. Notre Dame's fast, athletic, and relentless. You've got elite coaching, a dynamic quarterback, a top 3 running back room, a consistent offensive line (especially given the injuries), capable WRs and TEs, an elite secondary, a fast, physical, strong defense. The team simply does not quit. Yes, some guys are going to have to step it up and play lights out (e.g. Clark, Sneed, Oben, Logan Thomas, Vilimia-Asa, Gray, Tuihalmaka), but this absolutely can beat Ohio State. It's mind boggling some of the predictions I've seen (mainly from Ohio State fans). We all know Ohio State and Ryan Day do not like physicality (see the Michigan game). Before the game starts, when they're warming up, Ohio State needs to be viscerally uncomfortable about the upcoming 60 minutes... Notre Dame has to take it to them. Lean on them...wear them down...and then break them.

Go get 'em, men. Go. Fucking. Irish.

I generally watch alone. Not by my choice, but by others. Alcohol makes you say things.

if ND wins the natty i feel like i'll be rewatching the UGA, PSU and OSU games for the rest of my life. It they dont win it then i just don't think ill have the stomach to watch a second of either ever again

I understand that, but the Georgia game is a special one for me. I've experienced so much with ND since I was a kid in the 80's, and nothing, no loss, could ever take away what I felt when they won the Sugar Bowl. Like 30 years of clouds lifted. Like I could see again.

ND might get smoked Monday, but I'm gonna want to watch the UGA game occasionally, and remember what it felt like to get something back that I thought I had lost.

Awesome. Not sure the point of your post though.
You wouldn’t invite opposing fans to your home and neither would I.
However if someone does invite “close” friends to watch they shouldn’t be subjected to any rules.
