Again. 6 potential starters down, against the best roster money can buy and there are people literally pissed at the outcome? For the love of almighty this was the start of Freeman and the culmination of Day and it was much closer than it should have been. Crack a beer and smile. The future is glorious.
Great attitude. I hope you’re right.

Pass protection was fine. I don't care how good their run D is though, Denbrock simply can't seem to figure out how to use two amazing RBs. That QB run at 1st and goal at the 7 was such a bad call.

I don’t buy that for a second. He definitely got outcoached, but Chip Kelly is a great coach. You really think he was distracted from a National Championship by thoughts of NFL offseason workouts. If the Bengals are any kind of organization they told him to focus on ND and worry about his new role later.
Respectfully, I disagree.
I have the evidence of his worst performance of the year on my side.

Ohio state and Chip were fantastic no doubt, but Golden was terrible when it mattered most this evening.

When we can all take a step back, and go back to watch and dissect the tape. I believe you will start to be more on my side.
The tape of the third down calls will be very damning.

He didn’t get a single big call correct tonight.
That is not even close to his MO.
Tough for me not to assume something was off, or had him distracted / not as dialed in as usual.

Lastly, he has been a fantastic servant to the university and coach.
I’m just calling it as I see it.
He was terrible tonight, and let his boys down with his play calling / scheme.

I mean look ultimately the purpose of the football team is enriching the university of notre dame and boosting applications. So we can beat out places like Dartmouth and WUSTL for students. The priests are happy with 9-3. If we can get enough of an NIL bag for top croots maybe Marcus wins a championship

No one has been more critical of the University in the past than I have. But I do think that they are on board now and are making changes on a yearly basis. They are even allowing a couple of undergraduate transfers a year now.

They seem to be on board, trying and working with the program now.

Any take that says we were over matched by a highly superior team is a joke.

We totally could have won this game. Our later play in the game showed that pretty clear.

The problem was poor pass play by Riley early on. He had all day and couldn’t seem to find anyone open when OSU’s DB’s are not great. Which showed late in the game when we actually threw the ball downfield and tested them.

Poor game plan for our coaches as well, especially Golden and Freeman (apparently, buck stops with the HC).

The most frustrating part of this game was that we could have won, but showed up poorly and were poorly coached on the whole.

The good news is we could have won the title game after running the gamut in the playoffs. Great season, disappointing ending, with a very positive outlook moving forward.

Oh we could have won? That goes both ways. We also could have not come back and lost by more than we did.

The reality is we lost to an OSU team that was better on paper & on field.

The future is bright but I’m not sure when the next time we’re back in the natty will be. Hopefully, then, we’ll be the superior team and maybe even favored to win.

Comparing ND to Dartmouth or STL is silly. ND has shown its serious about winning.

OSU will lose a lot of good players: JTT, Sawyer, Williams, Styles, Simon, etc. Their D will drop off next season. Michigan have a garbage coach so they won't be a big factor either. I don't know where I am going with this.

The defense was the bigger problem than the offense. Although both were bad.

Their title odds next year are better than ours, lol. They are loaded every year. At some point we have to recruit better- the talent gap still matters, obviously, even if it matters less than it did 10 years ago.

Pay up

After the game, laying in a half drunken state, I started the WHAT IF processing. What if X would have come up with that contested pass as an interception keeping the score 14-7 going into half? What if we didn't have the pre-snap fuck up hitting the man in motion leading to a recovered fumble and loss on downs in the first half? What if Jeter wouldn't have donked a very makeable FG against the upright? What if Riley could have hit several of those wide open receivers for decent gains? What if ....

I suppose it's another one of those woulda, shoulda, coulda.

Here's to another fun ride next year. As always, win, lose or tie, I'm all Irish until I die. GO IRISH in the 2025 season!

Running ability is great and a difference maker. I'd rather have A Qb who can throw.

Will Howard had 169 yards rushing in 15 games. He got 57 tonight.

He's a crappy runner. He's hoisting a trophy tonight.
We don’t and won’t ever have a receiving corps as good as Ohio States this year. We have good ones, but their talent at that position is envied by everyone. RL was the X factor this year. Just like Josh Allen, Mahomes, Lamar, and others.

Howard was a compliment to what they had. Riley was the gap closer for what we lack.

Honestly, as I wake up this morning completely devestated…I at least can feel okay knowing we got beat by an almost perfect performance by Will Howard.

99.1 QBR
204.8 QB rating
Carried the ball 16 times, and had more rushing yards then our entire time while converting back breaking third downs with his legs when needed.

I honestly didn’t think he had it in him, and will forever be a little upset with Golden for what I thought was a terrible game plan that made things at times very easy for him…but sometimes you just need to take your hat off and say well done kid.

Three star recruit who was pushed aside by KSU for Avery Johnson, and was mocked by Kyle McCord and his cuse teammates earlier this year in a press conference.
He sure had the last laugh.

He earned that national championship, and played the best game of his career on the biggest of stages.

I hope one day ND can either recruit a QB with that type of ability, or pay top dollar for one to finally get them over the line.

Didn’t expect the defense to fail the team like that. I’m excited to see what Angelli, Carr and Minchey look like next year with another year of experience in Denbrock’s system

I mean, we could have had Howard if we wanted him last offseason.

Kid played great but I think there are plenty of quarterbacks who could do what he did. Plenty of protection with the best weapons in college football. Looked like he was playing 7 on 7 most of the game. RL and Hartman would both be great in that situation.

Completely a fair take, but the kid went out there and did it.
He didn’t make one wrong play all night and the grading / rating systems back that up.

I have to imagine there has never been a 99 QBR and 204 QB rating before by a QB in the national championship game.
That is outstanding football.

Stetson Bennet a few years ago had a 99.5
Mack Jones - 98
Burrow - 97.5
Lawrence - 97.8

Interesting looking back, lots of blowouts in NC games
