I'm not sure Golden got out coached, I just saw a lot of missed tackles, and lack of lane integrity, and giving up the edges which is uncharacteristic of the team. I think we just played a scheme we're not as comfortable with out of necessity because of the problems OSU presents, and we just didn't quite hold water well enough. It is what it is.

Also, gotta give Jaden Greathouse kudos for his heart and play to it. I don’t know if you saw it, but after his first score I think, he was standing next to Freeman saying something. I’m thinking it was something like “keep throwing me the ball coach. I will score!” ❤️🍀

Yes, I will question Al Golden doing exactly what Ohio State wanted him to do on that third and eleven, since they ran a go route with the the best player in college football and it was obvious Howard only had eyes for Smith on that play.

There was literally not a single way to call that third down play worse on defense, and Golden completely blew it.

Good riddance, and enjoy Cincinnati.
I’ll be hate watching CBS for the next few years after that final performance
Obviously a suboptimal coaching performance, but "good riddance" is absurd. Rewatch any down from any game this year to jog your memory and be more appreciative of the great coach he is.

Bunch of 2nd place losers here
As opposed to what? Pissing my pants because some 20 year olds lost a game? Brother life isn't as it is, it is as you are. A man's view of the world is a confession of character. You can choose to see that Gray sucks, Golden sucks, Freeman sucks, ND sucks, or whatever, or you can choose to see the growth that happened this season, and how close we are to having finally closed the gap. Choice is yours. Football is just a game, I very much want to see ND win a title, but it's not the end of the world if they don't.

Both of yall are fucking insane

Al had an impossible job and did the best anyone could. Playing 1v1 robber schemes the entire time would have meant 50 points.

Totally possible at full strength, not with what he had.

"Good Riddance"????

LMAO... LMAFO even
I’ll preface this by saying I have great respect for Al Golden and what he did for the University. I’ve said that numerous times this thread.
However, I can’t not look at his performance tonight, and see the immediate reports that he is the likely new DC in Cincinnati, and not think his mind was elsewhere during preparation for this game.

I hate the way the coaching hiring cycle leads to these situations, but no one will ever convince me that his performance in this game was not compromised by his impending hire as Bengals DC.

He got every third down play call wrong!
Every single one!
That is tough to do

Very similar feeling to how Lions fans are feeling with Ben Johnson today.

Dude for this team to turn around and play the way they did this season. Really this is over reacting a lot. We need improvements yes but there was always going to be a loser.

2-0 against the sec
4-1 against the big 10
5-0 against the acc

Most schools would love that.
Don't forget, the team they lost to in the title game had a higher payroll than the Pittsburgh Pirates

As much as this one hurts, I love how this team fought back in this game. That's something we haven't seen with ND in decades. This team didn't roll over a die like we have so many times before. This is just the beginning. Freeman is building something special in South Bend.

Anyone thinking Golden got outcoached needs their head examined. There were 5 legitimate pass catchers anytime Howard dropped back. Golden can't scheme up a front four that can pressure consistently on their own and there is no way to have 5 guys covered consistently. Talent wins and their pass catchers were greater than NDs pass rush. I personally love the grit of the team and couldn't be more proud. They were down 6 potential starters and played out. Future is bright despite the emotional crybabies.

Hell of year…We will be back. I think Marcus and his staff will learn a lot from this. Injuries are a hard thing to overcome when playing against a team with that kind of talent. On to Miami and Go Irish!!
MF & company will start tomorrow morning at 4AM. Let's believe In this coming year. I just saw a team go from zero to 100 In the length of a few games.
I love ND to a point of sickness, but I believe we are ready to take that turn, and win.
Unlike 2012, when the world was falling.

And where was the safety? Both safeties playing the line?
Gotta rewatch the 22 but if your pinching both safeties or having them be force players then shit no where to go over the top be slow and keep your gap integrity. It is what it is but he made the biggest defensive play not long after.

I’m just incredibly frustrated that is how his coaching tenure at ND will likely end.
He was so much better than that.

I hate that the coaching cycle leads to guys taking jobs before big games in both the NFL and college.
Just frustrated man, again I appreciate what he did for the university.

It just leaves a very sour taste in my mouth.

I mean the second place pussy is what’s wrong with this university. No wonder we haven’t won a championship in 40 yrs

What in the actual fuck are you talking about, man? No one is happy with second place.

You can be mad at a fucking loss and still be proud of this team. Are you not?

Say it. Then let's discuss who is the coward.
Maybe next week. But I’m not satisfied when history is at our hands

I don’t buy that for a second. He definitely got outcoached, but Chip Kelly is a great coach. You really think he was distracted from a National Championship by thoughts of NFL offseason workouts. If the Bengals are any kind of organization they told him to focus on ND and worry about his new role later.

I was with you until you started a sentence with “If the Bengals” and it didn’t end with “are a complete train wreck of an organization”

I mean look ultimately the purpose of the football team is enriching the university of notre dame and boosting applications. So we can beat out places like Dartmouth and WUSTL for students. The priests are happy with 9-3. If we can get enough of an NIL bag for top croots maybe Marcus wins a championship
