Not sure if anyone has spoken about this on here. But Jaden Ivey had a 75 minute long (didn't watch it all) Instagram Live where he went full on paranoid mental health alert status. I'll be praying for whatever he has going on.

I was going to post this in clashmore commons, but considering his Mom's job and his connection to ND I thought it would be worth posting here so other's can pray for him.

What's the TLDR on his 75-min video that is causing concern specifically for mental health issues? I don't have time to watch that. IG needs a 2.0x speed.

Please pardon my Old Man lack of crybaby sympathy, but unless he truly has some brain chemistry psychosis trouble, this hits me like a child's rant for attention when things aren't going well. The emotion-stripped theological message is essentially true (On judgement day no one will care about the Detroit pistons etc), but that he believes that HE's driven to correct everybody else's behavior is child pridefulness and insecurity (in my view.) So, he's at a tough moment of basketball setback: take a vacation in the mountains and meditate about growing up. ... There are only two laws of Moral Guidance. Both are about Love. Christ said that. ... so does the Pope, for that (Catholic) matter.

He and his wife are born-agains. This isn't particularly out of left field for that worldview, and as disappointing as it is that it's coming from Niele's son he's an adult.

That said, the fact they were baptized in a swimming pool gives off Righteous Gemstones vibes.

I don't fully know the Nielle/Jaden backstory, was she always his solo guardian? He alleges in a recent video that he was sexually abused as a kid. Doesn't reference/accuse his mother at all in the video, thankfully, but still a pretty serious thing to say. Based off this clip (I didn't see the 75 minute one), he desperately needs therapy, but Born-Again Christianity preyed on that void.

As a practicing Catholic, I respect anyone's right to practice their own faith in their own way. I've never been one to badger a protestant to convert to my views/beliefs, though I've certainly welcomed them and let them know our door is always open.

The inverse of that is constant badgering from some protestants (SOME, not all) that I know who criticize our (me and my wife's) Catholic faith and constantly request we "just try it our way." Neighbors constantly inviting us despite several politely declined invitations. "We are happily Catholic, we have a Parish already" etc. Relatives "I'm just concerned you're really not preaching and practicing scripture the way you should." (all religions have some bad eggs, including Catholicism. I'm certainly not implying all Catholics are perfect. Far from it.)

This feels like that on steroids. He's literally implying Catholics are going to hell

You appear to be better at giving grace than I am. My response to the bolded would be "I have the same concerns for you and your soul, let me know when you would like to come to Mass."

Lots of fallible humans here on Earth claiming to know exactly which denomination has or doesn’t have the secret to entry into heaven.

Just like the criminal next to Jesus on the cross, there’s only one way to heaven and He is it. Catholic or Protestant…that is irrelevant so as long as your eyes and heart lie in the right place and you’ve accepted Jesus as your Savior. Period. All roads lead to Him.

This coming from a cradle Catholic who has also practiced in Lutheran/Methodist/Wesleyan churches.

I don’t understand the willingness and ease which others choose to tear down other Christian religions they don’t fully understand.

I'm a Protestant (Lutheran--don't burn me pls). Not all of us are like this!

That said, I definitely grew up with a caricature of Roman Catholicism. My time at ND opened my eyes and gave me a lot more respect for the RCC.
Hilarious when Lutherans and Anglicans say anything about Catholicism when they are just Catholic Lite*

religion does not change people

it only accentuates the real person

if they are crazy, they get more crazy
if they are fanatical, they get more fanatical

if they are calm and careful, they become more so

I dunno about all the Catholic vs. Christian stuff. I just note that Jaden was about five when his mom started coaching at Notre Dame. He would've grown up around the place and Muffet McGraw's program. Also his dad is Davie-era ND football player Javin Hunter who, from Instagram anyway, looks like he also helped raise Jaden.
Hopefully it was as supportive and healthy an environment as one would hope.

There's a lot of truth to that. If forced to choose becoming Catholic or Baptist, many people at my church would choose Catholicism in a heartbeat.

The fun thing about Lutheranism and Anglicanism is they exist in the middle ground between Catholicism and the rest of Protestantism: sacramental theology and historic worship traditions alongside Protestant soteriology and ecclesiology.

You know that. I know that. We know that.

But many Protestants would NEVER classify Catholics as Christians...

Unfortunately, I'm very aware.

Grew up in a grass roots non-denom family (not the mega church types). Extended family are blended variations of "low-Church" Prots. My wife and her entire family are Catholic. I've been attending mass off an on for 15+ years, now. Confirmed Catholic last Easter. You would've thought I just bought a one-way ticket to Hell based on how I get treated at some family functions. With that said, my parents (especially my dad) have come around a ton. We even have meaningful conversations about what Catholics "actually believe" in order to dispel the strawman misconceptions and blatant lies. I believe he and I have grown closer lately, despite religious differences, due to my conversion.

The irony is that all of this non-sense is something Jesus himself would call out for it's blasphemy. No matter what side it's coming from.

Help is help. Dude needs to find his path no matter what that is. Catholic, Christian, Protestant, blah, blah, blah.

Shits 6 one, half dozen the other in my book. Just get on the right side of the tracks…
