My reaction is favorable. Don't know a damned thing about Pete B but knew enough of Jack to be sick of him. I was afraid that Jack would be one of those guys who sticks around forever because he's convinced he's the only one who can do the job well. Guess not.

Was he pushed out? Doubt it.

He is highly educated and has been around the corporate block a few times. I think he gets it regardless of how many times Lou spat on him at practice back in the good old days. It's a nice little foot note in the grand scheme of things. The rest of his background is far more interesting in the present and when looking down the road at what he's going to be likely navigating.

I don't think there is any reason to question Pete's understanding of where football falls into the overall pecking order at the University of Notre Dame.

Easy target to whine about. I thought the latest Irish Illustrated pod was on point when they talked about how Jack wasn’t the final word on facilities, spending, etc. He’s gotta get other people to agree too. But they don’t have his visibility so everyone focuses on Swarbrick

Look, I don't think anyone is going to argue that for his role, his experience at NBC is much, much more important than his experience at ND.

But I also think there are things that are normalized as a football player on a team vying for national championships that someone without the experience will have to attempt to acclimate to, though not always successfully.

Wasn't '24 the rumored year that Jack was stepping down when stories started leaking about why BK left? Can't remember what one of his kids said exactly.

He was a walk on punter 30 years ago.

If it checks a box for people, so be it. Nobody knew who he was a few hours ago.

I think Jack did a pretty damn good job considering the constraints he had to operate under from the administration. The job is not complete but the program is in a good spot in a quickly evolving landscape. As long as he doesn’t cut a long term UA deal on his way out, I say job well done.

I tend to agree, especially when it came to maintaining ND's independence in a shifting cfb landscape. I think he was a lot like Roger Goodell in that part of his job was to take heat for unpopular decisions that came from above his head. For that reason I find it hard to be optimistic about the new guy getting us over the hump so long as Jenkins and co are in charge.

I thought the same thing. Till he botched the due diligence on Ludwig. Whatever happened around that scenario, and how it unfolded, is just totally inept.

But other than that I've thought he's done a great job and I would gladly shake his hand and thank him profusely for his handling of super conferences, ACC deal, the Crossroads project, getting Kelly to switch up the staff and right the ship instead of bailing, etc.

I think overall he has been great. The Ludwig situation was just so bad and its unfortunate that will be the last thing I will remember him for.

If he had ended up getting NCAA President instead of Myles Brand, who knows what it all would have looked like.

I think he did a very good job. His grace and poise during the Manti Catfish situation was quite a test, and an early one at that. I think it was at that point that I knew this guy was going to be alright, because to be able to handle craziness took a hell of a lot of level headedness and quite a steady hand.

Not necessarily. Could be that he impressed Jack and others during meetings where they felt he would be a good candidate and they reached out to him.

The conventional wisdom was that Jack and Jenkins would both be leaving at the end of Jenkins' current term, which ends in June 2025.

Couldn’t agree more. AD’s aren’t going to make everyone happy all the time, but as Lax said, there are enough buffoons around. Considering his hands were probably tied to an extent he did a great job.
