Seems to me first half of the season we were a lot more chirpy.

I miss the chirpy-ness.

In regards to what?

Well, what 5'9" 250 mediocre athletes does Notre Dame play? Every Power 5 team has legitimate football players so you can't just out maul everybody.

And then you said something about loathing hurting someone but purposely trying to blow someone's knee out? Loathing hurting someone would imply that they don't want to blow someone's knee out.

Perhaps you just typed what you meant in the weirdest way, but I don't get your argument if one is there.

You can be a good wrestler by being nothing but a cock strong freak with an attitude.

You can also be a good wrestler by out maneuvering your opponent.

You can only be a great wrestler if you're a strong dude that can out maneuver your opponent with a only-one-of-us-is-leaving-this-mat-alive attitude. And of course being into self mortification.

I was being over the top with the 5'9" scenario. Just an example of how technique doesn't trump strength no matter what.

Just a mish mash. On the second part. Typing and driving. Bad idea. For multiple reasons

I don't think we are soft but I also don't think we are tough enough. The one complaint I have about BK is our offense is too finesse. ND is never gonna "out athlete" the elite schools. We need to "out tough" them. Wish we would go to more of a power game (New England last week was awesome). We should always be able to attract top end TEs and OL, why we don't run more and see some 2 TE sets is beyond me.

...My gut tells me it's not like this.

Pepto Bismol™l?

Maalox™?

Pepcid AC™?

A "cleanse?"

A high colonic?

Eat more Brussel Sprouts.

... and then excuse yourself to step outside to "vent."

Makes much more sense.

Don't text and drive!

I think we are definitely soft, but it doesn't have anything to do with players temperament. It is dammm near impossible to be physical when the offense does not run the ball with any consistency or downhill at all and the defense spends too much time on the field. Our scheme does not lend to being a physical team. Our scheme is more about beating physical teams by spreading them out and making it a track meet.

Agree with this. This to me is why Kelly will ultimately not get us over the hump. Harbaugh was smart in that he developed a tough team because he would never be able to recruit enough athletes at a place like Stanford. Hell, we are supposedly TE U yet we hardly use any.

Haven't been tough since Davie and that was just a holdover in mentality from Holtz.

Softness is Notre Dame's calling card since the 90s isn't it?

There are a couple intimidating guys on the roster.

The losses would still really suck but it would at least be nice to know the other team got the hell beat out of them to beat ND. I just want to see a tough ND team that other teams hate having to play.

Defense is too young to call soft. They are freshman. This is a group of smart kids doing very dumb things far too often. The poor tackling and golson are what's killing this team the most. Brindza would be cause 3.

The depth we have at D line now with all the injuries is bizarre.

Our line backers look just like our defenseive backs physically.

I actually thought the defense played hard today. This coming from the thread starter.

PS they still suck
