Is Kelly a REALLY good coach?

This streak of losses has me wondering this. This is the second game in a row that Kelly was directly responsible for a loss. The way he's brought the program up is good, but to be honest, how much of that is ND and how much of that is Kelly?

His on-field coaching, and especially his playcalling has ranged from generally okay to downright abysmal. Seriously, some of his on-field decisions have reached brainless levels.

If they lose to USC next week, as is expected, does this put Kelly on the hot seat? He's had 5 years to fix this mess, and outside of a miracle 2012 season that ended in calamity, it's been rather underwhelming and this year is probably the worst I've seen. Simply put, 7-5 in year 5 at ND is unacceptable and we are sniffing that.

In addition, this loss clinches the 4th season in 5 years under Kelly with 4 losses or more. Lose next week, and it'll be 3 out of 5 years with 5 losses. That's not the makings of a good coach at ND.

On a side note, what is with the injuries? It seems like under Kelly, ND is constantly one of the most injury-plagued teams.

Not sure I see why Kelly was directly responsible for this one

- Horrible TO call with over a minute left.
- Overall bad play calling in the redzone.
- Starting Drue and Collinsworth over Redfield and Shumate...AGAIN!

Some of you guys can't see the forest through the trees.

Are you really saying that a coach that has been coaching for over 20 years with a .700 winning percentage is a bad coach? The guy is statistically winning on par with the very best in the business and doing it currently with one of the hardest programs to coach.

Go grab a beer, relax and play with your kids, go get your fuqing mind right and try to remember that this is a fuqing game. One tough season doesn't signal the apocalypse.

Just to put it in perspective. We could be Michigan right about now. Too many injuries on defence has sunk this team. An explanation of why Redfield isn't out there is in order however. The only thing wrong with the offense is turn over plagued Golson.

ND can score on anyone, even the #1 and #2 defenses in the country. Folston put up 134 yards on the nations best run defense.

Fix the defense and ND wins more games.

He's good in that most programs around the country would love to have him. However I do not think he's good enough to make us an elite team and program. Too many bad mistakes, weird personnel decisions, and just some boneheaded decisions that always come back to bite us.

Gotcha. A Timeout that resulted in NO points for the opposition, nor did it take points off of the board for us, equals DIRECT responsibility for a loss. And how many days ago did you start watching football?

- Overall bad play calling in the redzone.

Gotcha! ND scored on 4 of their 5 trips to the red zone, but that DIRECTLY resulted in ND losing the game. Do your parents know that you are up this late?

- Starting Drue and Collinsworth over Redfield and Shumate...AGAIN!
Being such an obvious expert on football talent, you must be a coach, scout, or front office guy?

There's plenty of room for questioning if Kelly could be doing better, at this point. But to question whether or not he iis competent, based on claims that he was directly responsible for today's loss and using the above as "proof", well that's just dumb. I hate to call it dumb, but I can't think of any better way to express it.

But how many of his bad decisions have led to our losing ways this season?

Even if all of those guys are on Year 1 and 2, it shows that we really don't have the guys we need in year 3 and 4. I know Day and Schmidt are hurt and Russell is suspended, but a lack of upperclassmen who can contribute has to be on Kelly as well.

But now go back 3-4 years in history and remember what the perception was of ND. Can't blame him for that. BK has been changing the program that has been awful for the last 20 years and down right embarrassing since '07.
