Didn't want to broach this subject in the midst of the euphoria leading up to today's great bowl victory, but now that the season is over, has anyone heard anything about the conclusions of the investigation into Declan Sullivan's death? I was just wondering how that all came out.

nope. they are going to say "we are being careful and covering all bases before we conlude the investigation etc, etc....."

and so on until everyone just kind of forgets about it.

Hmmm. I would have thought they might have been able to come up with some conclusions by now. Oh, well, wait and see, I guess.

where are all the defenders who said "give nd a few weeks to do their investigation, then we will see where the breakdown occured".....

its going on 3 months now.

maybe the same nd poice who took 9 days to locate and interview the nd player in the seeberg case are in charge of the investigastion...that would explain the delay.

I'm more interested in the OSHA investigation, they don't screw around when a death is involved. I couldn't find any info on the OSHA site but it should be public record when completed.

These investigations can take awhile but would think it would be coming out sooner than later.

OHSA will pick the flysh*t from the pepper. they will go over every single little detail, and report on everything, from the silly/mundane, to more serious offenses.

I wonder if OSHA will be able to figure out that it is dangerous to be up in a scissor lift in high winds.

You're last thread was pointless. I'm sure we'll all know the results when they're done investigating. The Tribune will definitely report it. Why don't you write David Haugh an email and have him look into it?

By the way, his initials were DS, smart ***.

Of course they are still investigating. They are doing their due diligence as they should. Remember, the investigation was conducted and the results will be reviewed by third parties.

it would be nice to know his death was not in vain.

And no his death was not in vain. I do not think the completion of an investigation could have anything to do with that fact. Not sure what you are getting at.

If you meant that it would be nice if the Sullivan family got some closure, I would agree and I would hope and pray that they have found some already.

I've been around government agencies my entire working career...

just going from my experiences, but when there is a government investigation going on, you do not open your mouth, or publish your findings. You simply turn your stuff over to them...you support them as asked, and you live by their conclusions.

You do not want to be viewed as trying to run in front of ANY investigative or audit agency...EVER.

ND may have completed their internal investigation, but I'd guess whatever they found will be covered by OSHA...if not, we will not hear anything from ND if they have differing conclusions until OSHA speaks on the matter...and I wouldn't argue with OSHA, so we may never hear anything specifically attributed to ND's investigation.

You walk away looking for things that support the way you felt about ND when it all started...folks who came in guns blazin will still say negative things...those who trust the administration will still trust them.

I got that same envelope. Worst day of my life....but instead of being a bitter, depressed little punk that hates the school that turned me down, I used it as fuel. I worked hard and managed to earn my degree at another university (paying for it on my own) and played 4 years of college football. And I still love the Irish. And now I hope to be able to send my kids there.

I understand why I didn't get in. At the time I didn't work hard enough and didn't have the dedication. Now opportunities will never me by because of those two things. And I'm better for it.

sorry to disappoint any of you, but i had my choice of several schools when i graduated from high school. i grew up 8 miles from ND and wanted to get away from home for college. i was accepted at Cornell and Penn, so i dont think getting into ND would have been out of the question.

i retired at 45 years of age, so i think i did pretty well for myself. contrary to being bitter, i am quite happy with how my life has gone so far. i have zero reason to be bitter about anything regarding Notre Dame as an institution. that doesnt mean i wont question how things are handled by certain people employed by Notre Dame.

now, i could go through others posts and try to play amateur psychologist and call people names, but i think i will leave the name calling to others. i would be surprised if any actual ND graduates resort to calling someone they dont know a "bitter, depressed little punk...who couldnt get into Notre Dame." the ND grads i know have too much security in themselves than to do that.

i am simply skeptical about the investigation, but i will give it more time.

You are entitled to your skepticism regarding the investigation but a ND football forum is not the place to project your negativity. Go write a letter to the president since you have so much free time being retired and all.... I hope I can be just like you when I grow up.

dskoo: I have been a fairly unemotional poster here and try to be moderate and fair, but for me, your posts on this create a disconnect. You intimate that you have nothing against the University [which is very dear to my heart, so I am biased], but your revisiting of this issue [with admitted "skepticism" about the handling of it by the University] cannot be interpreted from my distance as anything but a desire to see some mud smeared on Notre Dame.

If the latter were not true, why would one continue to bring this up on a football forum of Notre Dame fans?? At the VERY least it constitutes what the British gentleman would call "bad form". Golden's suggestion about writing ND's president and making civilized inquiries is a good one. It should accomplish whatever it is you are trying to do, and would have the pleasant side-effect of leaving the rest of us alone to pursue our hobby interest while being more patient than you are [to say nothing about trusting] about the University's actions in the Declan Sullivan matter.

I can readily imagine that you in fact dislike Notre Dame, for whatever your reasons may be. I and almost everyone else on this bulletin board like "our" school very much. Surely a person with an Ivy League education, and quite proud of himself, must realize that, and consequently realize how poorly this group would react to your seeming obsession---in fact the easiest way to explain such social obtuseness would be to say that you are not unaware at all, but are doing this for exactly that reason---to infuriate people for your enjoyment. I, of course, do not accuse you of such low motivation. I only point out what you have seemed like to others.

Wishing you the best with your retirement, as I have enjoyed mine. And hoping that you can find things to believe in on the positive side of life. You will not believe it, but I mean that last comment sincerely [as I did all the others].

Hate to be the first to follow up on Old Man Mike's great post, but a quick check on dskoo's posts shows an unusual amount of leading the way into negativity against ND. He (she?) seems to pounce on every negative story.

My prayers go out to the Sullivan family for healing and strength, and Thanksgiving for the gift of their son.

I know of one more golden domer deeply distraught in the manner ND handled the death of Declan Sullivan, but he is very careful in his approach and feels it to more or less reflect negatively on a particular individual (higher up than coach) rather than the encompassed institution. The bottom line is this: Let those with loss mourn. Leave the rumors to the beauty parlors. And let's move forward.

Thats my humble opinion, however.

i get on things i think are handled poorly, even on forums of my own alma mater (even more vociferously). my frustration is with what happened and how it has been handled. i can assure you it has absolutely nothing to do with where it happened.

ii have stated at least twice now that i will shut up and wait til investigation results are out. however, if anyone posts things that i feel are an inaccurate representation about my feeling toward ND, then i will respond.

Do you know what happened or how it has been handled? Get a part time job. Get other things on your mind.

You have stated at least twice now that you will shut up. Do it.

So if this happened at Kentucky Wesleyan you would be blogging about it 4 months later on a Friday night, searching for answers?

Are you skeptical of OSHA's investigation? Or just ND's?

Respond to this statement.

it is an exaggeration to say i am obsessed with this. my last post on the matter before yesterday was somewhere in the range of 45 DAYS AGO. a friend of mine brought the subject up a couple days ago. as i am not constantly on this forum, i was really inquiring as to any new news. yes, it was lazy of me not to have done my due diligence to see if there was any news on the investigation (and it was poor of me to let my skepticism/frustration of how long the investigation has taken to come out in my post). im sorry that it caused anguish for so many here.

to answer another poster, id have been equally disturbed by the sequence of the whole matter regardless of where it occured. if it happened at Kentucky Wesleyan and they had an active forum discussing it, then yes, being a free country, i would have had things to say on the matter.

am i skeptical of ND's investigation? or just OSHA's? im skeptical and how long it is taking on both fronts. ive been involved with OSHA investigation from the corporate side, and id say over 4 months is unusually long where a death is involved.

if you have more question, ill answer them. if you want to drop it, thats fine as well.
