yeah...listening to Urban Meyer talk about integrity is creepy and so hilarious.

For someone with ZERO integrity and moral compass to talk the way he did is comical.

I agree with everything he said. But he certainly doesn't mean any of it. Unless his tenure at Florida was just a dream I had???

Just flipped it. Missed most of the Kelly interview, but thanks for the heads up. Wouldn't have caught any of it if I didn't see this post.

Quite honestly, if you don't think Urban is a man of integrity you are sadly mistaken.

Actually, this ESPN show was a VERY favorable thing for ND in almost every conceivable way. Kelly came out looking good; Meyer obviously liked him and our practices; Jesse Palmer was very positive about what he's seeing; statements about things looking up for Notre Dame abounded; Meyer praised the recruiting class [and singled out Lynch by name]; even Reese whateverhisnameis couldn't get in too much which was negative. This is the sort of ESPN coverage that does us great service. If we can keep giving them reasons to come up with bits like this, no one will even be thinking that we're a has-been program [except, of course, David Pollack].

David Pollack does seem to be a pretty big Mark May caliber hater. I think Lou finally converts May this season.

I think that Lou already has converted him. We just need to hold up our end of the bargain and win a lot of football games. There will still be some friendly banter between them for entertainment sake, but that war is won if WE win.

it's hard to tell.. last preseason mark may predicted a 10-win season for notre dame, and then proceeded to pick against us in almost every game, starting with purdue

Disagree 1000%. If you think he is a man of integrity, you need to do some research on him and his recruiting tactics. When it comes to the coaching game (including recruiting) he is scum, pure and simple. And for him to turn around and complain about the direction of college football, which he helped create and was fully a part of, is the height of hypocrisy.

Another show of his hypocrisy? How he b!tches about the way his assistants left him for other jobs, even though he did the exact same thing when he left ND for Bowling Green (which I don't blame him for).

I liked the fact that he gave ND and BK a lot of love, but to say he is a man of integrity is simply not even close to being true...

Exactly my thoughts.
He's a POS. Plain and simple. I'm angry that he's "involved" at all with anything at ND anymore. I dislike hearing his name in the same sentence. It gives me a bad taste in my mouth. If he ever becomes a member of the staff, I'll cool off on being a fan while he's around.

I don't want to start a forum p*ssing match though.
So I politely ignored the comment stating how much integrity he has.

Play nice fellas
agree to disagree if you have to.

He's praised his assistants nonstop. And what do you know about his personal recruiting tactics? It's funny you say you don't blame him for leaving ND for BG too seeing as he was uncertain if he wanted to take the job. And if part of integrity isn't loving your players and fellow coaches, I don't know what might be. Have you ever met Urban? Or have you only taken internet accusations and your own hatred for his success (while we suffered) as suffice reasons to slander him?

Trust me, I wasn't that fond of him myself until I met him. :p

Edit: And I never meant I saw him as a saint or anything just that you simply can't think he's an awful person without good reason...

NDinL.A. has been posting here for 5 years. Read some of his posts and educate yourself.

He didn't establish his bona fides by 6 months of posting in the Name Game thread.

Your ad hominem was uncalled for besides being offbase.

Thanks BGIF.

Here you go dude. I wrote this almost 2 years ago, but it still applies. This is why I think he's less than ethical:

For those of you who don't follow recruiting, let me tell you what a true ***-hat this clown Meyer really is (this is common knowledge for many of you):

1. He told Jevon Snead, a highly touted QB now at Ole Miss, that he was the only QB he would recruit. Snead committed to FL, his favorite school, and couldn't be more excited. Then he saw the OTL special on ESPN about Tim Tebow, and he saw Urban Liar and another FL coach in the stands, and his heart skipped a beat. He was shocked. He called his h.s. coach, and they decided to confront Liar. Liar told them that they were recruiting Tebow as a LB. The h.s. coach laughed at that, knowing what complete B.S. that was, and they decommitted from FL.

2. Our very own Ian Williams was recruited by FL early in the process, and he was excited to go there. In fact, for 6 months he was telling his friends and family that he was heavily leaning towards FL. Then the love from FL suddenly stopped, as FL started getting love from higher ranked players. He finally texted FL, and they told him that they were getting too full and couldn't take any more commits at that time. Two days later, a D-linemen from CA committed to FL. Williams was crushed, understandably.

3. From yardbarker.com:

Quote:
Florida was ready to take all-star corner Patrick Johnson with what they thought was a bogus test score, but he committed to LSU. How did Florida respond? "Florida flagged my scores," Johnson said. "They called the compliance office." "I'm not upset," Johnson said. "Florida made an issue about the ACT score. They're cowards. They had to go behind my back.
They were about to take the recruit, and when they couldn't get him they squealed like bitches (and snitches).

4. This from a Michigan site on the recruitment of Daryl Stonum:

Quote:
The University of Florida stayed on the four star pass-catcher well all the way through. Things crescendoed recently after a conversation with Urban Meyer. According to Stonum, Meyer had a compelling reason why he should become a Gator. "He told me that he talked to Coach Carr and Coach Soup and that they told him that I would be a much better fit in the Florida offense than I would be in the one at Michigan," Stonum recalled. "I thought, wow, my coaches are selling me out? I confronted them about it. I asked Coach Carr and Coach Soup about it, and they said they never talked to that guy and that there was no way they ever said anything like that and that they think I should be a Wolverine. I believed them. Right then, I knew just how Florida rolled."
5. Urban Liar had Justin Trattou, an ND commit, lie to everyone about his recruitment. Trattou told everyone he wasn't talking to anyone, even though he was going to FL all along. Liar and coach Mattison, a former ND coach as well who used to profess his love for ND, ripped ND for its weather and social life. It was a shock to everyone when Trattou signed with FL.

6. Omar Hunter, another ND 'lock', got the same deal as Trattou, with a twist. Hunter even lied to his entire family, esp his dad, who wanted Omar to go to ND for the education. The worst part was that when Hunter heard rumors that his position coach was going to the NFL, Liar lied to his face and said the coach was staying. ND coaches warned Hunter about it, but he wouldn't listen, and he committed to FL. Right after NSD, of course, the coach took off to the NFL.

7. FL and Liar are notorious for negative recruiting tactics. NOTORIOUS. I can't even go through the list of recruits who have claimed that FL coaches do that. Many are turned off, but tomany it puts doubts in their heads. Just ask Riggs! Why do you think Liar came out and said he wouldn't ever go to ND? Because coaches are doing the same thing to him what he does to them.

So you can see why many ND fans, despite Liar's winning ways, would never want that scumbag on campus. I used to be about the W's too, still am actually, but to a point. After hearing from a h.s. coach that many high school coaches can't stand the guy, I read up on Liar. I too, would never want that ***-hat on our beautiful campus. He's scum, he trashes ND every chance he gets, he already turned us down once, and we don't need to lower ourselves to that d-bag.

If you had time to read that, you'd get my point. That's cool that you met him, but I've met a ton of guys that seemed cool, but actions speak waayyyyyy louder than words. Color me unimpressed when it comes to Urban.

I've always had a complex view of Meyer. I think he is a win-at-all-costs guy who completely sacrifices his morals to get the job done. Do I think he was this way before going to Florida? Absolutely not. I think he saw the way things were done in the SEC and took "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" to the extreme. Jimbo Fisher, Les Miles, Gene Chizik, Urban Meyer... they are all the same type of used car salesman coaches because that is what their situation dictates.

Anyways, what I'm getting to in a roundabout way is that I think it is totally possible that Meyer wants recruiting cleaned up even if he was completely unethical in his time at Florida. And maybe he feels negative recruiting is totally fair game and only the "rule breaking" actions need to be policed. But deep down I think all of his lying and truth-twisting took a toll on someone who is self-proclaimed religious. Does he ever come back to the light fully a la the prodigal son? I doubt it... but I do hope when he ends up at Ohio State he isn't the same type of amoral liar he was in the SEC.

On an unrelated note, Mattinson is more of a douche than Meyer (at least in my book) by a LOT. The guy is a fraud of a coach who has been extremely fortunate to have great players... and you better believe he is negatively recruiting the hell out of ND while at Michigan. Kiel, Diamond, Marshall, you name it... he is going to bash the hell out of ND because he is a total talentless douche.

Love that Howard had to do the replay of the Michigan Rudolph TD. Love it.
He's not the only one but many people have stated how he was rumblin/slow--might I remind you espn boobs that this guy did this with half a hammy that was about to tear and still went 95 yards for a touchdown. Its remarkable that this play doesnt go down in Irish lore-unbelievable. espn (small caps) never ceases to amaze me.

Debating Meyer is fair game. Don't let it spread to disparagement of one another. I know it's hard to distinguish an opinion from the personality who stated it, but we have to if we are to remain open to different thoughts [and therefore being surprised by learning something new] rather than shutting one another out.

I've given this story once before [long ago and buried elsewhere]. I was in the audience when a big-time corporate counsellor-for-hire told of his common experiences with CEOs. He said that many of them were the nicest people when you were away from the office --- even actually living with high moral values and care for others [even the environment, for which this talk had relevance].

But as soon as they crossed the threshold of the office, their decision-making took on a violent shift. Suddenly everything was about the success of the enterprise, and it was as if another robotic entity had taken their soul. A few "head men" seem to be able to resist this dichotomy; most cave in to it completely --- much to the eventual rotting of their soul.

It is possible that Urban Meyer is today a thoroughly rotted soul, or it is possible today that he is trying to find his soul again. I do not know what is going on inside him, and have been told by Christ not to judge it. That does not mean that i would not look upon an egregious sinner with suspicion however, as is prudent until he proves his "conversion".

Listen, I don't agree with lying to recruits....

But grow up. This is big boy stuff and little girls don't win 2 National Titles.

Lou called a kid that decided to go to FSU(Scott Bentley) that Notre Dame really, really wanted and told the kid, "you will never amount to anything."

Coaches do shady things or they become ex-coaches.

Ara, Frank Leahy, Lou Holtz.... John Wooded, Dean Smith, John Calipari.... All of them do shady things. Get over yourself.

There are degrees of "shady" and your post completely glosses over that. Bruce Pearl shady > Lou Holtz "shady" by a mile. There are also plenty of coaches who do things the right way (Mike Brey, Brad Stevens, etc.) who keep their jobs and do quite well. Your attitude is the reason why poor behavior is tolerated and why the SEC has the culture it does. The "get over it, everyone is doing it" mentality should not be tolerated.
