Good, get the eff outta here and don't come back. Tonight is absolutely a low for me as a fan and the program as a whole, but if you leave b/c of it, then fine, you're not a fan anyway and no one here gives fu**. Bye.

Brah... Step away like most of us.... Tomorrow's another day.

JerseyMike, don't take the Rutgers gas pipe just yet. As Item 19 in "The Notre Dame Fan's Book of Life Lessons" points out, Things Are Never So Bad That They Can't Get Worse. But they could get better! Leahy, Ara, Devine and Lou all won a national championship in their third seasons. It's only year two, so I'm reaching for the shot glass and the bottle of Kessler's and hanging in there. There isn't enough whiskey in Kentucky or anywhere else to get you through a life of pulling for Rutgers.

I think that perhaps we are all playing tragic figures. Perhaps the endless pursuit of the unattainable will make us stronger, and the endless disappointment will fortify our certitude.

Lol if you're 41 why stop now ? I'm only 24 but I know even if the Irish go 0-12, I'll be back that first weekend of September in my ND jersey/hat/t-shirt etc rooting them on.

Yep, next year could be a absolute train wreck. That is why i was so hopeful this year. I fear what is coming may suck because it is seemily set up for failure.

that's the worst part. i figured this would be the easiest year for us to contend for a BCS bowl and/or championship, because we lose a good amount of talent this year and next year our schedule is an absolute meat grinder. it's not even fair, next year's schedule.

but this OP needs to grow a pair and realize that being a fan is more than just watching a team when it's good. it's about sticking with the team through the low points.

and also, OP, who the f*ck do you think cares that you're leaving? You post on here one time, and it's just to tell us you're leaving? no one cares. really, just leave. it's people like you that epitomize "fair weather fan"

Hello and goodbye to all ND fans. My name is Mike, I'm 41, I live in NJ and I'm a lifelong Irish football fan, or should say "was". I just finished watching Michigan score 3 touchdowns in the last minutes of the game, turned off the tv, and said to myself "that's it". I can't take it anymore. I cant take having my hopes dashed game after game, year after year. I actually feel ill right now. As a result, I am leaving the ranks of the ND faithful. No more pilgrimages with my brothers to South Bend, no more game day parties, no more sweatshirts...nothing. I'm officially done. If I want to continue to root for a loser, I have one here right at home. GO RUTGERS!

Let me get this straight. You turned off your TV set, turned on your computer, googled "Notre Dame Football Board", joined this board at 11:19 pm just so you could say goodbye?

Well goodbye, TROLL!

I'm not saying that your favorite college football team is blood, but I like to think of ND as my child. No matter what happens, you know you're never going to abandon her. Sure, she may disappoint you, and probably will do so often. But suffering is part of love. And deep, deep down, you enjoy the suffering because you enjoy proving it to yourself, and showing her that she has someone who'll always be there.

I'm not done. I will always bleed blue and gold. But I really think I need to stop watching for awhile. I pace and my heart races to no end so many times every season, and today was no exception. I don't scream or throw things anymore, because I have kids that look to dad for how to act. But you can definitely see my stress during our ritual cardiac 4th quarters.

I have 4 amazing kids, a great wife, and a job I love. I mildly worry that I'm going to have a clutcher before I'm 40 if I keep investing myself in ND football like I do. There are PLENTY of members of this site that take ND as (or more) seriously than I do, and I worry for each of you too.

It's important to me, but as Lou emphasizes regularly, GOD, FAMILY, Notre Dame. In that order. I think for my health and sanity, I just need to DVR the games and watch if we win. This team seems destined to play in dramatic finishes habitually. And for way too long, we've been on the wrong side of too many of those.

I don't think that makes me fair-weather, just sensible. Is that wrong?

It's not wrong.
Do what you feel is best for yourself and your family.
No one is going to question your love for the Irish.

I'm attempting to "expect the worst" so when it happens I can just say that "I told myself so."
Will this relieve the stress?
I don't know, but I'm a lot more calm this week then last.

Uggh...

Uggh...

I honestly consider giving up too. If I didn't live in LA and hate SC so much I might cut bait and root for a local team. It is sooo frustrating. I see it project out to long term coaching and recruiting. I have been a fan for 25+ years. When I was 14, I secured a fake I.D. and got a ND tattoo. There is a deep commitment. I know all the players, recruits, coaches, etc. Always have. It just sucks losing like this..over and over. We were a better team, but still lost. It is like having a child that scores high on state standardized tests, gets poor grades, and never improves. It hurts. The ability is there, but there is no delivery...ever..for so long. I am sick of qualifying, justifying, and defending.

I have no idea why I became a fan, but I have always been. Maybe History. Probably standards, ethics, and integrity. It just seems to be more of a pain than a pleasure recently. If I didn't like sports so much, I would give up. Period.

You can all hate if you want, but this is how I feel. Regardless of my 3 of posts

Yeah quarterbacking is a concern with this team. Not consistent enough.

I'm right there with you...

I'm right there with you...

Same here, Jersey Mike. I literally did the same thing. I am in such shock and disgust. I grew up a Notre Dame fan. My whole family roots. But my dad and I went to our first Irish game a few years back, and they were pricks to us because we aren't rich. Acted like total elitists. They rejected me for undergrad...only school to do so when I had a 4.042 GPA and a 32 on my ACT...rejected me because my parents weren't donors and I didn't go to a Catholic HS.

I grew up watching the movie Rudy about once a week. My entire room was Notre Dame everything. When I got rejected, it was a blow. But the football frustration ever since the Bush Push has nearly killed me. And tonight was an all-time low. I feel numb and yet relieved.

So long from this guy as well. I'm at peace.

This is more pathetic then the other guy. You are our NEWEST member! You literally joined Irish Envy to post this ONE post about you not being a fan anymore and walking away. WTF!
