The schedule is tough, no doubt, but depending on the development of some of the young guys it doesnt have to be. Miami isnt going to be good as we thought at this time last year that would be in 2012. If Tuitt, Lynch, Ishaq, Niklas, Councel, Nix, and Rabasa make even a natural progression our front 7 could still be very formidable with the return of Cwynar and KLM. The secondary will definitely need people to step up.

On offense, Golson should be ready to run some change of pace offense, and Rees will be another year into the system. Replacing Floyd will be be a challenge, but we will still have a good stable of TEs in Eifert, Welch, and Koyack. Riddick will need to step up as will TJ, but if Davaris Daniels is ready to step in and play, and we get some contributions from guys like maybe Greenberry and Toma we could have a halfway decent WR corps. Wood coming back will be huge as will the development of Atkinson and Cam, and hopefull the return of Roberson. The O-line will have to replace some guys, but we have plenty of depth and with continued progression I can see guys like Tate Nichols ready to step in and fill Dever's shoes. Between Hanratty, Lombard and Hegarty, we should be able to find a guard to replace Robinson. Cave, Watt and Martin will form a nice foundation though.

All that being said, I dont believe we are a BCS team next year, but the pieces are in place that it doesnt have to be a completely disaster as most are making it out to be. Our team speed will continue to improve, and hopefully Brian Kelly won't have to beat any more of the loser mentality out of these guys that the inherited from the great Charlie Weis.

i hear ya and appreciate your post. i'm with ya, just saying that next season could be much tougher and if we struggle then our fan base could self implode. haha.

I was distraught after Michigan, but give up?? Ha, that's laughable. If you didn't give up during Davie, Willingham, and Weis and you're going to give up on the only "real football coach" ND has had since Lou, you've lost your ever Irish-loving mind. See you in '13 buddy, when you pawn all your possessions to be able to afford a ticket to jump on the bandwagon. 10-win, 11-win seasons will be the normal one day. Many traditionally dominant teams have been stricken by mediocrity before breaking through in the modern era. Patience is a virtue.

I beg to differ. He was an assistant and/or coordinator who rode Lou's coattails to the job. He never won anywhere.

Wish they would have had the insight to promote Urban Meyer. Watching him walking around the sidelines during the '97 ND vs. UM game makes me sick to my stomach still. But alas, hindsight is 20/20.

The pain of a loss, despite the circumstances, makes the joy of winning that much sweeter. Beating USC last year was tremendously satisfying. The same can be said of our bowl win at Hawaii to break the losing streak a few years ago.

A true fan is defined by sticking with their team in good times and in bad.

Yeah, I've seen this before. Great find, I totally bookmarked it. I must clarify by saying "real football coach" I meant true head coach (innovator, game manager, player developer, and doesn't stick his nose where doesn't need to be i.e. interfering with coordinators who know what they are doing). I wish Davie would have stayed a defensive coordinator. I believe he had the chops to be one of the best in the college game

Being a ND fan all your life is no excuse for abandoning them now that they need your support. I don't believe you really mean it anyway. We all have experienced the frustration of loosing games we thought we'd win so you are not alone in your current depression. Persistence and determination are the two most important words in the English language so Mike, just hang in there and you will once again root for our God blessed Notre Dame.

Now is the time you choose to abandon this team? I'm only 26 (been a fan since 1990, at the ripe age of 5), and even though this team breaks my heart every year, I couldn't imagine giving up on them. I love this program way too much to quit on them when we have so much potential. Hell, how did you get through the 2007 season?

Thats too bad. I remember back in the early 80s when ND was struggling, my dad always said to hang in there. ND will be better and when they are back on top, that I was a true fan who stuck with them when they were down. He was right. I feel the same way now. We are closer to being where we want to be than many think. I'm with ND no matter what happens. Go Irish!
