IMO NDs defense is built to defend against the power I and or Proset. They should do fine until mini predator starts taking snaps out of shotgun and becomes a threat to run every play. This will cause some chaos because the team still seems to be slow on the edges.

I am sure Hoke watched USF's success attack us on the perimeter with the bubble screens and zone play action. I would think we will see a couple packages very similar to what USF ran with twins to the short side, Giving Denard and Co. that quick throw, or the Field side Qb Runs.

If we play the defensive game that we have been starting the last 4 games of last season and this past Saturday, then we will make their offense look subpar. Key to the game: containing Denard and the rest of the rushing game on the outside perimeter. A QB like Denard can hardly ever be put to a complete stop, however he can absoutely be contained for minimum damage.

All I have to say is that I will being Brian Kelly "Purple face" postal if I see our OLB's bite on one more dive option this season. The ONLY plays that really worked well for USF was the dive option where our OLB, Fleming a senior in particular, bit on the dive play. I absolutely do not understand why either OLB trys to get in on those plays. We have a NT and 2 DE's that are 300# run stopper and two ILB who specialize at run stopping up the middle.

If I am Diaco, I am telling both Fleming and Shembo one specific direction. Direction: KEEP THE PERIMETER ON ALL PLAYS!!! I DON'T CARE IF YOU DON'T GET ONE TACKLE ALL DAY, BUT I BETTER NOT SEE DENARD RUNNING FREE ON THE OUTSIDE!!

the things USF did well against us are all MADE for D Rob. version 2010... they'll be stupid not to come out and play that way... i don't think it'll be pretty.

the soft cushion on the outside needs to end. we have top flight corners and an awesome D-line. jam the recievers and give the D-line a chance to get to the quarterback. we can't let the speed left over from Rodriguez get into space

I highly doubt you see Diaco jam receivers. You don't want to give up big plays against Michigan. The South Florida gameplan was pretty much perfect in that respect too. If the biggest play Denard has is 17 yards, you've done your job.

Diaco has to take the gameplan from the second half of last season's game (I watched the game last night yet again haha) and modify it slightly. Blitz a ton off the edges and eliminate the space there, I agree with that.

What also happens with the cushion is that the DB's are so far off, if/when Denard breaks the contain he's got a lot of green ahead of him. I agree, we can't press...but I'd say a good 4-5 yd. cushion...that generally discourages QB's from taking a quick read and firing outside on those hitches, bubble screens etc...

agreed that really pisses me of also. i think it might have been Shembo that made the dumbest play i have ever seen last saturday. BJ daniels rushed off tackle i believe after a option play you just discussed and faked a pitch to the outside (where nobody was!). Shembo lunged out to cover the non existent guy. Daniels then cut inside and for a decent gain. HOW IN THE HELL DO YOU BITE ON A PITCH WHEN HE HAS NOBODY TO PITCH IT TO!

Thank you, finally I have found somebody that agrees with me!!!! Again this week Denard is not a threat for the deep ball so i will go f****** ballistic if the corners play 10-15 yards off the line. If i see this i will no longer have a tv mark my word.:upset:

They will look good if not great. The ND Offense better be ready for a shootout.

PS. I know I said I was taking some time off but I'm stuck in my college library for another hour and for some reason wrestling, comic book, and adult swim boards have been blocked. Hi all how ya doing :)

They didn't look great against W. Michigan. The offense only scored 20 points in three quarters.

They won't be able to run between the tackles against us. The only real threat is Robinson off the edges. If we can keep contain on Shoelaces as well as we did against Daniels in the 2nd half, it will force the skunkbear offense onto his arm. I'll take the Irish in that matchup every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Thats what Im worried about is Denard. Having a flashback to last year where if we just couldve stopped his *** we wouldve had a big win. Is it impossible for us to contain no its not impossible do I think it will happen, no. Thats not me trying to be negative thats just what I think will happen. With this atmosphere this is just as big of a game (if not bigger) for UM than it is for us. I predict an offensive shootout Ill happily be wrong if it means a W for us.

We need to hit DR in the mouth repeatedly....that will slow him down. Can’t let him get in space- once he gets going he will be tough to catch. Keep him contained he will take a beating...because #9 landing on you over and over will take its toll. As far as the secondary I like the corners to be off 8 yards...I for one think that DR can throw the ball enough to hurt us deep.

The prospect of aggressively blitzing against Robinson frightens me. While I'd love to light him up a few times, we knocked him around pretty good last season and he didn't slow down one bit. In fact, it took about 6 games worth of beatings before Robinson started losing steam.

I'd rather see Fleming and Shembo just keep contain, thereby pushing everything inside.

8 yards is good.

Allow me to clarify...I did not mean for us to Blitz....I want us to be gap responsible. This will allow backside pursuit. I think our front 4 will be better than their O line. Also, allowing Teo and Carlo to fill.

I'm hopeful that our offense will come out firing and our defense will play well. Our defense just can't let Robinson get outside, or anyone for that matter.

If the D doesn't tackle and wrap up ballcarriers, and don't start lookin for the damn ball while its in the air, we're gonna have trouble.....not to mention if our O pisses all over themselves again this week and gives the skunkbears a short field, I have a feeling the Michigan O is going to look better than they should.

I never, ever root for opposing players to be injured, because I'm obviously above that, but I wouldn't necessarily be upset to see Denard limp off the field and not return....

Ten turds tied together with a shoelace is my guess.

I'm not a fan of the 8 yd cushion. I will admit that I saw very little of their first game, but they have some speed on their team other than Denard. Nobody as electrifying, but some pretty serious speed. 8 yds is quite a bit of space for a wr screen

Turk can put us under real quick.

He honestly worries me big time now.

You can't underestimate what a terrible punter can do to a defenses psyche and a O coordinators play calling.
