The good news is Alabama knows it doesn't have to open the play book. Get up a couple scores early and then run run run.

Our best defence will be 3 yards and a cloud of dust or in this case turf rubber. Grind the clock.

Patterson’s loss is looming larger than I’d hope. Running the ball is our identity and missing him changes that, like it or not.

46 and 48 at least tells me there are points to be had. 46 was just yesterday. Book needs to rip and trust 6’5+ will win because those big boys aren’t separating.

The guys on The Shamrock podcast made the point that we have to assume that Bama is going to score a minimum of 42 points regardless of how good the defense plays.

It's up to Rees to design an offense that can win in a shootout of that magnitude. I don't see a path with the current group of starting WRs... so maybe we should just do a YOLO and run out Lenzy and JJ in the starting spots and see what happens.

Kelly and Rees should've put them in the second quarter last night.

Yeah, Florida scored at least 2 TD's in the Bama game with DB's right there in terms of coverage. Trask just put it up and they went and got it.

Trask was 26/40 for 408 yards (10.2 yds/att) and 3 TD's with a 91.8 QBR. If Book plays like that it'll be a competitive game just like Florida gave Bama.

But, my guess will be Book doesn't put together anything even resembling that and we get housed.

Yup, time to put comp pct on the back burner in exchange for big plays and yds/att.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Kelly and Rees go old school Kelly and come out with some 4 and 5 WR sets. Really spread them out and see if Book can make it happen. Because this is right. This will all come down to, can ND score enough to stay in the game and make it one possession in the near the end of the game.

Precisely. When Bama loses, its usually a 48-45 type game, not a defensive slug fest.

You cant stop them, you just have to try to outscore them

The only real hope is Saban looks ahead and preps for Clemson. Hes the most meticulous person on the planet though, so that isnt happening.

We win by playing our brand of football. Win the battle up front. Win the time of possession. Have a balanced offense, and create turnovers, the same recipes it takes to win any game. We can do it. Will we? Only time will tell

We ain't winning the battle up front by enough for it to matter. If we get more than 20 points I'll be shocked. Genuinely shocked. They will have 11 guys within 8 yards of the LOS and dare ND to do something about it.

Meanwhile, they will throw the ball all over the yard and feed the big RB who is gonna be a bear to tackle

I envision an offense that looks like 2014 ND (Everett Golson) versus ASU. Hopefully without the 4 INT's and ASU defensive scores.

I'd want to use Kyren a lot but not in a traditional sense. I don't think it's going to be as a 20+ carry day. Maybe a 8-10 catch day. Also, need to get Tyree more involved. No idea why they waited so long to get him involved against Clemson. He's a small crease and score type of player. No reason to believe we're going to win a game grinding out 3-4 yard runs with Kyren.

I mean I'm willing to call every hotel room in the area that ND isn't staying at.
I can rig a train horn up to my car and drive up and down the road.
Let's just get real old school about this.

May need to start a gofundme for this plan.
But if thats what it takes.

Do we have any HVAC guys who could jack the heat up at the hotel to 3rd level of hell hot?

OK, if you're gonna go old school, then REALLY go old school. In 1896, Auburn students put grease on the train tracks in town and the train carrying the Georgia Tech team slid through town and out the other side, forcing the GT players to walk back into town.

Not so sure this plan would be safe with airplanes.
I'm not looking to kill anyone here just tire them out so they can't function.

But I like where your head is at in regards to destroying your favorite team.

I don’t think we can outscore them and try and mimic what Ole Miss and Florida did.

Defensively, stick a safety (not Hamilton) over the top of Smith every play. Force Bama to move the ball by running with Harris or throws to guys other than Smith. Keep everything In front of them. Mac Jones isn’t a running threat so I feel better about slowing down their rushing attack without needing to sell out to stop it. As far as I’m concerned, Harris running for 6 yards and keeping the clock moving isn’t bad.

Offensively, we need the line to step up and play how they did against Clemson the first go around. We don’t have a chance if the interior of the line gets pushed around again and we end up facing 3rd and long consistently. I’d like to see us take a couple deep shots early. I also want to see Rees call it like it’s the final game of the season. Run Book 10-15 times if it’s working. Run a flea flicker, do a double-pass with Davis, do some things that make the Bama D uneasy.

We haven’t because we’ve had four injuries to the OL- Patterson, Kramer’s, Correll and Lugg. All three beside Patterson should be healthy and ready to go.

But teams are stacking the box, so it’d be nice to see some different looks to open up the run game. Quick reads, screens, RPOs. All of those can still help win the battle up front and control the clock.

Clemson set the recipe for defending Book. The pocket needs to move, they need to take deeper drops to give Book more room to move and help open up the screens and underneath patterns. And finally they are going to have to get some speed on the field and take some shots.

IF I hear "we'll focus on fundamentals and everyone does there job" I'm going to croak. OF course you do that, all four teams have to do that. That is not an advantage. They are going to have really get out of the box, make Bama think, guess a little more.

Since we're in it, let's go for broke. Somebody has to win so why leave anything at home.

Let's do this. Will be epic.

In all fairness I recall several games, (mostly Ara) where the Irish were sizable underdogs. 73 against Bama being one. Early 90s Sugar Bowl when The Bus ran all over the gators. People were saying ND didn't belong in the Sugar Bowl. I think they were 8-3 and Florida was in the title hunt. Anything is possible. Plus we could be much worse off. How soon we forget.

Serious question. Will we be healthy on the OL for the game? If not, then we have a less than zero chance because the Tide DL will murder us just like Clemson did.

I think Kraemer and Correll will be healthy for the game. They’ll be ready to go

How someone with Lenzy's speed can't be utilized outside the hash marks is beyond me. I can't think that Rees is obtuse enough to not think of it, so it must just be something with Lenzy's abilities. Which partially falls on coaching for not developing him enough

There's only one way the Irish can beat Bama. They must copy the Patriots game plan versus the Rams in 02.

On defense we have to hold, pass interference, and mug their receivers on
EVERY.
SINGLE.
PLAY.

Early on it'll be 10 and 15 yard penalties, but eventually the refs will stop calling it.
They can't throw flags on every play and it will set a precedence for the rest of the game.

It will work if Kelly is bold enough to try it.
What do we have to lose?
It will frustrate Bama, possibly cause them to lose their composure.

On offense Kelly HAS to get some speed on the field. At least put them in the game. That will force Bama to keep at least one safety out of the box.
