I think this is one of the worest threads that i have read since i have been here.
...Crickets on that one...
reality is, there is no one...right now you couldn't even talk Aaron Taylor out of the booth to take this job...Urbie wasn't going to take it...Stoops, well right now I'm thinking he wishes he would have...as someone mentioned before...the best you could hope for is an up and comer to take the job and then survive long enough to get his players in...Kelly is the only one...I hope he gets a chance...
Well, I feel better. I went to the original poster's home page and his occupation is listed as a meteorologist, which means he is wrong at least 90 % of the time....

I'm going to go with DillonHall and assign this thread some respect, even though I think the OP is absurd. Kelly has had 2 years at ND, and you're blind if you can't see that this team has been improving. I certainly agree that he hasn't been perfect, but overall he has been representing the team and the school well.
That being said, we've been here before. ND has been on a coaching carrousel since the departure of sweet Lou, and I'm not sure that that's the way to build a championship program.
So my question, borrowing heavily on the ideas DillonHall threw out there, would be this: is Kelly a guy we can stick with even if we don't win a NC or BCS game right away (say, his first 5 years). Has he shown enough energy, improved the performance on the field enough, and been a good enough representative of the school that ND's willing to stick with him even if things don't play out perfectly. A lot of people here love Kelly and assume that 2013 is his year to win the national championship. I think that's absurd. So... if things don't go as planned, have we found our man, or is he still skating on thin ice?
Yea I know...just trying to be funny.....Funny, but it actually says he's a metrologist (had to google that to make sure that was a real thing).
Haha, I don't think anyone wants to think about it. I think that most fans have accepted that Kelly's the best coach that is willing to take this job. If he can't get it done, we'll never 'be back.'
Isn't this thread more suited for NDNation?
I don't think its like that at all. I think most of the fans here know Brian Kelly is a very good coach and if Notre Dame is going to have a NC, it's not going to happen over night. We have to build a NC team by sticking with a long term coach and a plan. We recruit players we can graduate, not players we can use then throw out with the trash. We want champions that can spell.
The original question is presenting the situation where we don't get to a BCS game in Kelly's first 5 years. That's not exactly overnight...
His response was a NC not happening overnight, though. He didn't say we couldn't get to a BCS game in 5 years.
Sorry for the confusion, I was using BCS/NC interchangeably. I was simply disputing BobD's assertion that ND fans would remain patient with Kelly if he did not accomplish either within 5 years (which he seemingly called 'overnight').
Anyone expecting any coach to win a NC, in his first 5 years, is either insane or just hasn't been watching college football very long.

I agree with DillonHall, there's nothing ridiculous about expecting an NC during the first 5 years. He'll have his own recruits, his system will be in place, etc. In fact, after 4 years, we should be competing for the NC every year. No excuses if we still haven't made it to a BCS bowl after Kelly's 4th year.

how can I neg rep this?
For the record, I despise cats.
It was an ugly kitten anyway.
