I disagree.

Ohio State is probably the most complete team in the country. Their offense is not explosive, but it is decent. Their first-team defense held a pretty damn good Indiana offense to less than 100 yards passing, when they tossed for 480 the week before.

They may be complete but they don't play anyone...

IU is pathetic. IMO 480 yards against an awful michigan secondary isn't impressive to me.

Let's be honest, OSU's schedule is incredibly lame.

I thought OSU was a very good team to start the season. They blew out Miami which I thought was impressive, but when FSU did the same thing yesterday, it makes me think the Buckeyes are overrated, again. They are still good enough to run the table in the Big Ten, but I think they'll lose in the NC game, again. We'll get a more solid feel for the Buckeyes this week in Camp Randall, against a Wisconsin team which was beaten handily by Sparty.

Against Michigan. OSU loses to Nebraska, Alabama, Oregon. Pick em with TCU, OU and Boise. Auburn?

Anyone watching this ESPN BCS garbage? Robert Smith and Jesse Palmer both have OSU at #1....no rationale. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Alabama has beaten more quality teams than South Carolina.

I guess... if you count Florida as quality. Either way you shouldn't beat someone by two scores and be ranked below them with the same record. That's just crazy.

Alabama has beaten more quality teams than South Carolina.

Well, says who? The same rankings and opinions that disregard head to head games and rank the winner under the loser because national opinion "feels" better about the losing team? Kinda like when ND beat Fla St. head to head, but Fla St. was "awarded" the mythological NC. I think Alabama also claimed co-championship that year because in their opinion, they were better.

Rankings like these kinda take the saying "that's why they play the game" and throw it out the window. Yeah, Carolina beat Bama, but we need to take a long term approach. Even though Carolina won right before our eyes and on the scoreboard, we "feel" that Bama is still better.

Alabama will continue to be in the hunt just because the media folks can't believe they're not. Same thing happened with LSU a couple of seasons ago. "Everybody" just knew they were best. Same thing happened with the famous Bobby Bowden gift championship. All that to me is BS and shows that emotions and irrationalities trump body-of-work a good bit of the time. Of course South Carolina should be ranked atop Alabama until other things happen this season. Neutered is right. Dirty is also right in that it is obvious that a bunch of other folks who have votes don't care so much about all that. [ and, by the way, the coaches aren't really studying the whole national picture during the earlier part of the season, if ever. They vote somewhat "politically"---Old Boys Club plus conference preferences---and "conveniently"---get this useless task out of the way so I can get back to practice field.]

I disagree too.

Normally when teams at the top lose, and lose fairly convincingly like 'Bama did, you'll see them drop ~9 spots.

Bama dropped only 7 spots. If they had dropped the "customary" 9 spots, South Carolina would be ranked ahead of them.

It just doesn't feel right that SC isn't ranked ahead of them, especially considering Alabama will have more than enough opportunities to play their way back into this and climb up the polls again. Now, they have the inside track on a team within their own conference that just beat them.

Two teams that bother me right now:

1. Ohio State: They're #1 because of what they achieved last year. If we're basing this year on this year alone they be about 6 or 7 spots lower.

2. LSU: I know their crazy and just a bunch of loonies down there with Miles as coach, but an undefeated SEC team that has a few quality wins sitting at only #9 is really odd.

LSU's defense is gooooood. I think if they played Ohio State right now they would win.

You guys always hit the nail on the head. But you know what this means? LSU will overtake Boisie, OSU, Oregon, TCU and Nebraska for the number one spot, because so many are “uncomfortable” without an SEC team rated number one. Forget the fact that they are winning on borrowed time. For those of you who keep track, ‘Bama counts 13 NCs; five of them are also-rans as you described with ‘93. How many NCs has Notre Dame lost, where they deserved it like in ’93?
