This comment comes from the fact he was asked yesterday how it was going to feel running onto the ND field for the last time. He said, "this is not my last time, I hav a 5th year coming." I know many folks took potshots at Hayseed last year, but I am a huge fan of this kid. He gives great effort at all times and will be THE leader in the defensive backfield next season. Thanks Harrison.
We need him, he has played multiple positions for multiple coordinators. Back to back years in the same spot, and scheme, will be huge for him. He is big, fast and smart, I love the fact he is going to come back.
Kelly has said that Smith is his leader and pre-snap "organizer" and that he really appreciates him. Ray Bentley cited Harrison as one of NDs best defenders on TV a few weeks ago. However some people saw him in previous years, that appears to have little relevance to this year's play...and, I'm counting on the frequently seen leap forward in understanding [that is often seen in DBs] out of him next year. Thank the Lord that he's coming back to anchor that spot.
his leadership will be a nice supplement to Te'o. But unless your Manti(lead dog), the view is all the same. Manti will be the lead alpha-dog (i think he is now). I also think that Carlo Calabrese will provide good 'leadership-by-example' on next year defensive squad.
If Harrison improves as much as he did this year again next year, he should be a huge asset to this team and maybe even a team that plays on Sundays. Good to hear.
Glad to hear he's coming back. It will be nice to see what he can do finally not bouncing around different positions, especially after the improvement he's showed this season.
I have to admit that I've talked crap about Hayseed in the past, especially playing linebacker which I guess wasn't his positon but I didn't think safety was either but he's come along. He learned how to tackle this year and is getting better. I wish he had better hands for more INT's because he's always around the ball. I think he can get better at pass breakups as well. Longo has helped him get big, he was already athletic. Who knows where he'll end up.
