just wondering some opinions of some of the greatest games in the past 10 years, or most exciting, either or? it doesn't have to be just Notre Dame games either,if i were to say a few i would go with...

Nebraska at Notre Dame (2000)
Michigan at Notre Dame (2002)
Michigan at Northwestern (not sure of the year but i know Nortwestern came back late, and scored after the A-train fumbled.)
USC vs Texas (Rose Bowl)
Notre Dame at Michigan St. (2006)
OSU vs Penn St. (2005)

thats just some that popped in my head i know there are alot more, for instance app st upset of michigan, or ucla vs nd in '06. even boise st vs oklahoma

Oklahoma - Boise State 2006 Fiesta Bowl
It had everything- a quick lead by the underdog, a nice rally by the favorite, then a collapse by the underdog, and finally a recovery when seemingly down and out for the count. Throw in an overtime and the gutsy call for 2 and the win....Wow.

The only thing it did not have was high enough stakes for the nation to get behind. But thats ok, it was my all time favorite game.

Even though it was a loss, the '05 SC - ND game was one of the most exciting if we are only talking about the last 10 years. If we go back a little further the '93 game against Florida State was amazing. But that brings back terrible memories of what happened the following week.

2007 ND vs. Georgia Tech

jk

You had me for a minute!! I was like, "What the fu**????" Funny.

In the past 10 years:

*Most exciting game I've seen live was UCLA vs. Cal 3 or 4 years ago at the Rose Bowl. UCLA won like 45-42 or something like that, and Maurice Jones (Drew) just went OFF. CAl would just keep coming back behind Marshawn Lynch and another RB (Forcett I believe??), while Jones just couldn't be stopped. Unreal.

*Most satisfying (live) = Michigan-ND last year. Great, loud crowd. Holtz speaking at the pep rally. ND came out fired up and played well. Floyd unstoppable in 1st half. Monsoon the 2nd half but the crowd stayed alive. Mich fans leaving stadium with their tails between their lags.

*Best played and most fun to watch = As mentioned, USC-ND '05 (forget the outcome, which strangely left me depressed yet excited for weeks, the game was phenominal), and USC-Texas in the Rose Bowl. Oh yeah, and OK-Boise St...

USC vs. Texas was a great game. that showed how one player can make a difference. Vince Young was the best athlete on the field that day. Check out the winning TD run, Vince Young looked as if he was running half-speed, USC just could not catch him.

I dont really consider the Boise St v. Okla game as a great game, a great upset maybe. Although I will take this opportunity to give out some props to Ian Johnson, Damien High School Alum. He was the RB that took the statue of liberty play for the win, and then proposed to his GF after the game

GO DHS SPARTANS!!

I was at the UCLA game v WSU that Ben Olsen got KILLED in.... it came down to the wire with UCLA returning a int for six as WSU was driving for what would have been the winning score... that was a pretty exciting game, but I remember the Cal game too... Jones had quite a few just remarkable performances in that place... btw, that was never a fumble and SC got lucky

my most satisfying is def the Zibby game against Tenn, then after a year of still constant shit talk from Vlos fans we go in to their house the following year and boat race them again... FANtastic

Any Irish win is a good game to me. I feel double the pleasure when they beat the Skunkbears or U$C.

However, the greatest game I saw was the Sugar Bowl win vs Bama. What a call by Ara down on the goalline!

Floyd had one catch for six yards. You're thinking of Golden "I cannot be stopped" Tate.

You're right, but if I recall correctly, he drew 2 pass interference penalties, including one in the endzone that would have been a sure TD. That's why I said he was unstoppable. But yeah, Tate had a coming out party yo...

#2 would be anytime ND beats the Skunkbears!

I seem to recall some poor officiating giving that game to OSU, specifically on some pass interference. Just my neutral opinion, I had no interest in either team.

I would have to say the 06 ND- UCLA game..... they (UCLA) beat the hell out of us the whole game, but didnt put the points on the board..... Brady to Shark with 43 seconds left..... HELL YEA. My whole family thought i was nuts because im the only ND fan and was the only one watching the game and i went crazy.

As for the 05 USC-ND game, probably the most dissappointing game i have ever watched.... should have won that. i effing hate bush, cheating cocky basterd.

Greatest Games

Greatest Games

I'll stick to ND games and adopt a VERY liberal interpretation to " ... the last 10 years or so."
As a freshman I attended the 1/1/71 Cotton Bowl: Irish 24, Longhorns 11. It involved 28 hours in Dallas book-ended by 24 hour drives each way. Ara countered Royal's dominating wishbone offense with a "mirror wishbone" defense. It didn't look good when the Longhorns ran the first play after the opening kick off for 40 yards. ND's luck changed to the fabled Irish kind after I aided and abetted in ripping off one of the large banners strung around the stadium with the names of SWC teams late in the first quarter. As far as I know that TEXAS banner is still somewhere on campus ... perhaps Stanford Hall.
As a brand spanking new graduate, without a job, I attended the 1/1/75 Orange Bowl: Irish 13, Tide 11. It was Ara's last game coaching ND. As fate and providential connections would have it, I slept on the floor of a hotel room (reserved by the father of a classmate) -- the very hotel the team stayed in. After a game and night of celebration (both involving a goodly volume of George Dickle Sour Mash Whiskey) I found the elevators and the lobby. Through my hangover haze I spotted Ara and Ted The Head across the room. I thought it would be a good thing to say something nice to Coach Parseghian. Along the lines of "Congratulations and thank you for your years of dedication, etc. All my throbbing head and cotton mouth could manage was a mumbled "Um ... good game, Coach."
Ahhh, youth!

Say "Goodnight, Dick!"

Great post! Thanks for sharing. The fans that only have 10 years of history are truly deprived.

Your two games rank among ND's best all-time but I'd go for another one from your era, the '73 Sugar Bowl. Bama and ND both undefeated playing for a National Championship. Six lead changes. ND TE Dave Casper had 2 pancake blocks on Bama defenders on the SAME play. Hunter had a 93 yd TD run. ND made a 2 point conversion. Both teams botched an Extra Point attempt.

Bryant with a riverboat gambler's instinct declined a late 4th Q penalty and chose to punt. ND was pinned down on their own 1 yard line. "Pass Right" is the gutsy call of the Weis era but it came at the start of a game. Clements to Weber, a pass from the end zone to a backup TE, stunned the Nation! And it was at the close of the National Championship Game. Ara pulled an inside straight flush to Byrant's full house.

A one point upset victory. 36 years later Bama fans still hate ND but most don't know why.

The best game i have seen in the past 10 years is Boise St.vs Oklahoma. How can you not love the underdog pulling out all the stops to take out big bad OU. When Jared Zabransky threw that pick six after OU came back to tie it, i was throwin a fit bcuz i thought Boise blew it. Plus Ian Johnson went to local Damien High School so i gotta support him. Great game, saw a youtube video and it still gives me goosebumps.

I discount the 05 USC-ND game because it burns in my soul. i lost so much sleep over that game. worst game i have seen in my life, id rather lose convincingly then over some BS push overthe goal line

That's easy: Bear Bryant's Crimson Tide lost all four games played against ND.

"Goodnight – Dick"
