It sounds like this school is being deprived of things that every high school football team would have access to such as proper cleaning of equipment and facilities.

You can't blame the fans and alumni if the school doesn't have someone or some way to wash the freaking jerseys.

Yeah, I believe the money is there, as evidenced by the Pres & AD traveling to the game via plane.

Meanwhile, the athletes are paying for things themselves. Crazy.

The administration at Grambling is in full fault, imo.

Questions from the various articles on the situation...Who is the bigger bitch? Bobby Jindal or the President/AD?

Doug Williams shoulders some of the blame here too. Should have followed protocol for the sake of the players. Not many of us would keep our jobs if we constantly avoided the chain of command.
Intresting that you mention this because Doug Williams ( allegedly ) had approach the school administration a numerous of times about the poor and lest than acceptable conditions for the players and obviously the administration chose not to take it seriously and address it.

personally i don't think these players have the right to just not play. majority of them are on scholarship and they have the obligation to represent their university and student body. i don't care what's going on behind the scenes...they need to show up and do their job.

if i were an NFL GM i wouldn't look at any of these guys
Dude if you were an NFL GM your team would resemble the Jacksonville Jaguars.....this has nothing to do with draft choices, this is the school administration failing to ( as you put it ) do thier job and fulfill thier obligation to the staff, coaches and players of the University.......obviously what has been going on behind the scenes had been going on too long.

The administration was put in a bad situation with the way state funding was cut, but that doesn't excuse the way they handled their end. They promised the previous coach incentive bonuses for performance, which he previously met and they tried to deny him. They also owe it to the team to provide a safe environment to train in, safe equipment and uniforms, and the team shouldn't have to bus halfway across the country when the AD and President are flying by plane.

It sounds like the previous coach tried to make the best of a bad situation. He tried to raise money and circumvent the chain of command. Yeah, this is usually frowned upon, but if the chain of command is going to try and block your good deed...sometimes you have to take matters into your own hands. I don't fault the coach there, and I don't fault the players for taking a stand. I assume Grambling doesn't bring in a ton of money through their football program, but just about every football program makes more money than they spend and they typically cover costs of other athletic sports. If Grambling's football team is in the positive when it comes to the budget, theres no reason the team should have to stand for those poor conditions. If Grambling can't meet the basic needs of these players, they shouldn't have a football team and those kids should be allowed to transfer or continue on a scholarship without having to play.

Good news: they are supposed to resume practicing today

Bad news:

That's disgusting.

It's like they haven't even had a janitor in the past 5 years.

Looking at those pictures I can see one that is somewhat excusable. The bench being ripped I can understand, but hey slap some duct tape on that bad boy. I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to find a slightly used one somewhere such as even Craigslist. The others are truly disgusting and I applaud the student journalist and players for leaking this information.
