ha, it can be 1 other person or 5, idc. I'm just not putting in more than $2K.

I'm 100% serious btw.

You're my kinda partner! I put in $20k and you put in $2k and I do what I want with your money! If only I could just get you up to $10.9k...

What if I told you that your $2K buy in is only worth 2% of the company if I buy the rest? Still want me as a partner?

BGIF can give a great, more detailed, breakdown I'm sure...
The OG team was ran by the gentlemen who started the site... His tag here was Svoboda and I believe that account still exits under a different name. JiggaFini, Queens and others led the first team of moderators, they made a great team but the site was still rather small with little traffic.

The turning point came when IE and it's owner got in trouble with some of the subscription sites about posted content and such. The original owner sold the site, the new owner wasn't even a CFB fan and the site went downhill quick. There was no admin here at all and the few moderators left turned on the site, Queens actually deleted a bunch of recruiting profiles and threads just out of frustration... after a few months (off memory) the new owner finally stopped by and saw the state that IE was in and knew it needed some form of moderators and admins (The majority of the OG team pretty much left with the OG owner) and he pretty much at random picked a user to run the site for him and clean things up.... but without having any knowledge of things he picked a random MSU fan who posted here... that didn't sit well. To the credit of said MSU fan (TonyTiger or some such) he actually took the job half way serious and went about finding serious mods... he picked LoveMyIrish, Jason Pham, GoshenGipper, Myself, Irishfan... though I think it's fair to say we were undermanned and somewhat unprepared for the overall job at the time.. there was a lot of bad blood about the transition from the original owner and the period of a couple months were there was almost no moderation or control,... we tried to turn the site around, we created a number of giveaways and such and tried to actually bring some moderation back to the site though our style(s) were admittedly more lenient than you see now.

Obviously GG passed away, Tony Tiger moved on after continued heat for being an opposing fan and JPham took up his job... Myself and other mods grew tired of the job and handed it off to others like BGIF, who over time also grew tired and handed it off to peps like LAX and CO... and here we are today. Site is stronger and seems better run than ever.

Your post is pretty close to the Brief History of Irish Envy that I wrote 6 years ago.

A guy named Jason Svoboda aka Svo, boda, Irish Envy, and a half dozen other names, from Indianapolis started the board almost 6 years ago. He had a brother, cousin, or somebody he knew well who ran another board (Big 10?) his entrepenurial spirit led him to give it a go. IE started slowly. Same software as today but plain jane. It was about a year before the logo got developed through a contest. Then a guy was hired for something like $100 to finialize the logo. Members had a lot of suggestions. Membership grew and the site became a recruiting Mecca. We had members from around the country that feed in info on recruits in their local area and we had others that subscribed to recruiting services that shared info.
A year or so later (I'm not going into precise dates, details, and who) this board (and one or two others, Domer Domain was one of them) was threatened with legal action by Mike Frank (his company before ISD) and another recruiting service (Jack Freeman's if I recall correctly) for posting premium articles and other articles from there sites. They threatened lawsuits and as the the sites they went after were all shoe string operations that did't have the resources for legal battles and all caved. I think all the threatened companies were put up for sale over time as the owner (one was a HS kid) couldn't live with the threats.
Svo put this board up for sale and it was bought by a Canadian entrepenuer purely as an investment opportunity. Svo was to provide administrative assistance for some time period as part of the sale which he did but not under his own name. He used a clever nom de plume. Offically he left because of unspecified job or family demands on time. No details were provided. As people learned of the new absentee landlord with no interest in ND except making a buck off the site. Readership waned. A volunteer administrater Tiger something or other, turned out to be an MSU fan. He wasn't a troll but that didn't help. Then some mods and members took it upon themselves to trash the site "to get even with that Canadian guy". It wasn't prettty.
An underground pirate site was set up and many key IE member and mods migrated there. This place became a sewer. It got pretty ugly.
Enter GoshenGipper, an ND Subway Alum, who lead the charge to rebuild the site. He was tireless as a poster, mediator, moderator, and cheerleader. He died about 2 years ago in a automobile accident.
Somewhere in this time frame Svo opened a new site with same software. It's around today.
IE went through another change of ownership and another decline around or after after GG's death. The board had a increase in trolls and smack (This is NOT a smack board) and a lack of moderators to update the board and maintain control. Those that tried to do an effective job were overwhelmed and exhausted.
About a year ago there was influx of new blood and the board went through another transition period. A bunch of posters were told to clean up their acts. Those who didn't lost their posting privileges. (Posting on IE is a privilege not a right. If you don't like the culture here, feel free to move on.) The recruiting forums were rejuvenated, football discussion grew, and Phammer expanded the graphics greatly. For those that aren't aware Phammer is full time ND student. He cracks the books, roots for ND and is the administrator (NOT owner of this site) in his copius free time. He does a lot of work (mostly unnoticed by the readers of this site) to keep this place running. None of the moderators own the site either. We're spread out across the country and most of us have never met and probably never will. But we do share a common interest, GCND.

GO IRISH!

I don't know why I find the back story of IE so interesting..

I joined this site a few years back when the site I used to go to about Detroit sports stuff became a wasteland... I decided to see if there was a site like that but for ND stuff since that's what I am most fanatical about.. Found this site and haven't regretted it for one second

I guess I could see it mattering if the owners were active on the board AND from another fan base... but no owner to my knowledge has taken an active role since the first owner who was/is a die hard ND guy.

I agree with the non-active ownership comment but differ on the last part.

From my PMs and emails with Boda going back 10 years. I recall him being an entrepreneur looking for a market. IIRC, he had a relative, brother or cousin, that had an tOSU site and he was looking for a similar activity. He found the ND market underrepresented at the time and opted to fill that market as opposed to being a Mike Frank type fan with a hugh passion for ND football. Back in '96 Mike was a poster on the old Irish Recruiting Journal. He lived in Nebraska and worked for a mortgage company. He was an avid poster on the IRJ with a desire to improve the caliber of paid recruiting services like the Tom Lemming's. Mike moved to South Bend a year or so later and founded the predecessor to ISD. Unlike Mike I don't recall Boda living or dying on ND football. He wanted to get into the website business and Irish Envy was his entre. His ultimate goal back then was to create a business that would encompass NFL and College Football not just ND alone. He had very big plans for a young man.

Some Other 10 Year Veterans

Since the end of this year will be the tenth anniversary of joining Irish Envy, I've been reflecting on the early years, long-time posters, and its evolution.

I wanted to give a shout out to those posters who joined IE before me and continue to contribute regularly. Here's a big thanks to them in order of dates joined.

Fun to hear the background - kind of depressing to see how little revenue a site with this much content generates (which is admittedly hypocritical for someone running ad blockers to say).

I posted in here previously but to update, I was just hired to work at ND's Landscape Services department.

If something on campus doesn't look up to par, feel free to chastise me. ;)
