Road games at Memphis and Iowa in early September to start of his tenure at Troy next season.
Troy won't give him that long of a leash. Program is very accustomed to double digit winning seasons over the last decade.
I will be interested to see where Vegas puts thier season W/L number next summer.
Those are two early (likely big) losses that could spiral a new coach and staff quickly.

He will need to have success fast.
Especially being a guy from West Virginia, who has mostly coached in the Mid-Atlantic to Big Ten Country trying to make it in Troy, Alabama.

Good luck to the guy.
They gave Chip Lindsey 3 years. He had five win seasons in all three and fired him after the 2021 season. Brown was before him, Sumrall after and they both did very well. Before all of that Larry Blakeney was there for 24 years and retired in 2014.

Probably Parker's low bar is Lindsey in terms of a leesh. A couple of 4-8 or worse to start, he may not get a third depending on what it will cost to fire him. They probably give him three unless the first two are total disasters.

If you look at thier future out of conference scheduling.
Memphis & Iowa (2024)
Memphis & Clemson (2025)
Mississippi State & Missouri (2026)

The athletic administration knows how valuable that Group of (5) spot would be to thier entire school as a whole, and are certainly scheduling out of conf to give themselves a chance.
In this new era of a Group of Five team being guarantied a playoff spot, I have to assume if he isn't very competitive after three seasons he will be kicked to the curb. There is just too much money on the line every year now with that spot for any G5 program that has real aspirations.

Good exposure too.

Brown and Sumrall have really raised the bar there more recently for sure. This was also a I-AA program up until the start of the Bush Gore Century. They've been in the Sun Belt for 20 years and surely have additional growth ambition.

It's a good job for Parker to land in, but they're not a Johnny Come Lately G5 program because of the success Brown and Sumrall had.

Man that’s crazy. Look at the size of those guys and then compare it to ND guys.
That's probably what Parker thought when first seeing them.

98 has to be a NT. Lol

War Daddy nickname was always a touch too “meathead” for my style.

EVERYONE was loving that nickname. Hilarious how quickly the board moved off that sinking ship.

We had a thread titled “BVG is a straight gangsta” and all fawned over him after he did an all out blitz against Stanford on 4th down that worked.

We are used to buying high and selling low.

I was driving through Troy yesterday and saw signs for the University. I thought about dropping by the athletic complex to see if they installed the War Daddy wing yet.

Parker even has a few jars of candy in the lobby of his office, just like his old boss.

“That’s a steal from Free,” Parker said. “That was a perfect spot to get the canisters out.”

Marcus Freeman has candy on his desk and I love everything about it. Like even more that Parker is doing it too at Troy.

“I get emotional talking about Notre Dame,” Parker said. “That was a special thing for me, my wife and kids. Truly mean that. Growing up in eastern Kentucky as a Catholic kid in a town with no Catholics, that’s an emotional experience. It still is. If you really dive into that place and you think you’re getting a gold helmet at some elitist school — the players, the staff, there is grit there. You watch how those guys compete in practice, having to call off inside (run) drills for the most part because they would kill each other."

I wish this dude well, man, but I'm really happy how this all worked out in the end if I'm being brutally honest.

Definitely agreed he seemed like a good person for sure, but strictly from a football perspective, glad we upgraded to Denbrock. I really think it's a curious hire for Troy, which has been a pretty steady program over the years. They seem to make a bowl game every season. Interested to see how he does there.

I wish the guy well. And I could also see a path where he has a ton of success as a head coach, as opposed to coordinator. Seems like a really good person, relates well to his players, and his players seems to love him. Could easily see him finding a lane as a head coach that doesn't necessarily wow you with the Xs and Os, but is a terrific culture guy who wins game on the backs of good coordinators (i.e., the Dabo model).

As a kid who also grew up in eastern Kentucky mountains as a Catholic in a town full of non-Catholics, I truly mean this... Gerard has earned a soft spot in this heathens heart.
