On top of all the reasons to want Michigan to lose, MF needs to stop looking at the Wolverines as his proof of offensive concept.
I think Harbaugh ball is exactly what MF wants to develop at ND... The ability to run the ball even against stacked defenses and have your lines impose their will. It might be good enough to win the Big 10, but when you go up against the big boys down south, I don't think you can win championships like that.
The first step towards pursuing an innovative OC is wanting to play innovative offense. I'm not sure we are there yet.
100% agree with everything you said, especially this. Succeeding and winning it all with this type of offense is the exception and not the norm.
I’m losing faith that we will ever be there in wanting to play as an innovative offense, which blows my mind given the state of CFB. Feels like Harbaugh ball has been the type of offense we’ve been trying to implement for over a decade now. TE U, strong oline, but never electric on the outside.
Aside from maybe Georgia last year, most national championship teams (and contenders) have a prolific suite of pass catchers. Sure, they can run the ball too, but I think of recent contenders and I think of Ja’Marr Chase, Justin Jefferson, Olave and Garrett Wilson and JSN. Go back further and you’ll find studs like Deandre Hopkins, Sammy Watkins, and many that I’m probably forgetting.
When you’re a ground and pound team, fall behind against competition and you’re in trouble. With a prolific passing offense, you’re always in the game. The worst thing we can do is further commit to running old school, 90s type offense.
I’d take a slight dip in TE and OLine prioritization for an equal increase in WR and QB prioritization. I think most of us would.
