Ludwig or Klein could have been dealt the same hand and would have arrived with a lot more positive reaction from the fans. Ludwig especially. Parker was received as a lukewarm hire. At best. Considering the circumstances that led up to Saturday, I think he should be given a great deal of credit. That's about as clean of a performance as we've seen in a very long time. The cards were dealt and the guy in the seat at the table was The War Daddy.

You play the hand you're dealt. That's life. Parker didn't wander in off of the street from an analyst job. He was on the staff last year. When you consider how everything went down with hockey games, the WTF reaction from the national public and the disappointment a lot of us felt about the hire he walked into the hand without a lot of fanfare or confidence from the fans. Parker can say he blocked out the noise, that it doesn't bother him and give us the sound bytes but these guys know what is being said.

If Saturday had been a shaky sloppy performance nobody would talking about the hand he was dealt. I think most people understand the situation as it is and 60 minutes of real football is just the beginning of a sample size. He's going to have some ups and downs. There will be play calls where we collectively wonder "why?". There will be some off games that are shaky, and hopefully they win them.

He's going to go up against Gibson at NCST in a few weeks. They just missed each other at WVU. That's going to be something to look at.
I am considering the circumstances and I just disagree he should be given a great deal of credit at this juncture. He inherited some truly great talents. Then proceeded to hammered fuck a shitty opponent.

When the results are the same and Parker's finger prints on the offense extend beyond the TE room, then I hope he gets a huge raise.

Klein is going to kick himself for not taking that ND job last year. Looking at the history of KSU OCs they go absolutely nowhere from that job. If Parker plays his cards right he's going to look very smart by the end of the season given the roster he inherited, and some other teams may come calling.

I'm giving him credit for the sixty minutes on Saturday in Ireland. He's in the seat and controlled what he was able to control. That's all anyone can ask.

When things go wrong it'll be a much different tune because it supports the agenda that everything got handed to him and these aren't his guys, and that's fine. Comes with the carousel. Tommy Rees stepped out, Ludwig stepped back, Parker stepped in.

Maybe. That's ultimately his problem and not ours.

I'll never forget when Tommy tried to do his own recreation of Leo in Wolf of Wall Street (I'm not f'n leaving). And no players in the room reacted. Dead silence.

Tommy was like a 100 score golfer. Not ugly-bad, and once in a while hit a shot that was brilliant, but far more "coulda beens" than real brilliance.

So, Saban hired him because occasionally he made the correct call? Ok.

This is one hell of a reframing of that moment. The kids were obviously thrilled that he was staying. They had just run a twitter campaign for him.
It's your coordinator you signed up for college with. This is the most anti-climatic "celebration" I could imagine given they should probably be ecstatic with any sign of stability, given the uncertainty after just losing their HC.

You should get a job with ESPN so you can at least get paid to push your stupid narratives.

it’s funny, in my mind the kids went nuts when Tommy announced it. Watching it back, it was a pretty tepid response.

This might be a thread where this comment could be appropriate: The OLine is thankfully without mysteries at this time of the season. Everyone of the guys looked very good. The new guys were excellent, and Rocco Spindler had as good a game as guards like Patterson would have --- he just completely swallowed up his target almost every play --- impressive. If this continues (and strength doesn't seem an issue with him), he's going to kick ass. Coogan was solid too. I don't think that ANY plays did not work because an OLine mistake this game. Hopefully no stupid IE comments this season.

As an aside, the second team line did get in a few plays and no mysteries there either: Baker// Schrauth// Craig// Kristofic// Wagner. They didn't miss any blocks either, and maybe the only mediocre play was caused by Estime taking the wrong route --- didn't see the power wave sweeping-it-out properly (kind of surprising for him.) I loved their brief time because they showed that they immediately understood and properly executed each play as called even against 9-in-the-box. We're in great shape --- probably for years. ... and guys like Jagusah, Abshur etc waiting.

Yes it's one game, but GP and staff were on it. Every group was prepared, not just the 1s either. Operated with mid season efficiency against a blitz heavy team. I'm less impressed with his play calling and more impressed with his coordination.

One penalty in a season opener is impressive (tight end hold on a running play). Not one illegal procedure or offsides…..how often can you watch a game and there is only one penalty?

Not to mention doing it while playing against the option. You gotta think the Defense is constantly in think mode rather than go mode. I’ll take that everyday. They will probably be more impressive in the coming weeks when they can play “normal” football.

Grey isn't wrong. In the Mick Assaf Twitter Space after the BK to LSU fiasco there were a lot of current and former players that supported both Rees to either stay on as OC or even HC (Freeman too of course). Pretty much every former QB that played for him gave their endorsement to stay as OC other than 5 Star Philure. Even Wimbush, who got benched for Book, gave his blessing.

Possibly, but Klein seemed like a massive dork so we have to consider that.

What do you expect them to say after they've had time to prepare for a public statement that will be online? "Eh, you know I was fine if Tommy left, he was kind of dull".

I put more weight in the immediate, in the moment, raw reaction from the players, and it was a wet blanket. Maybe that's just me.

It's so weird seeing everyone replying to Dingleberry. Literally one of only 2 people I have ignored.

It almost makes me want to unignore because the throttling looks fun... but nah.

Well,… here’s the other,… anyway, it’s so strange after years of being the court jester pretending to hate ND seeing someone walk in here seemingly doing it for real ,… it’s not just one poster either. There’s been a few over the past year or two
