ND at 5 with a QB who (1) hasn’t been decided and (2) has never seen any game action is a pretty massive compliment to the state of the program imo.
Yeah, five is fine.
Mostly I remain mystified as to the Penn State hype. 14 voters think they are the best team in the country?

Just saw Brandon Marcello for 247’s Top 25. Remember when he just didn’t rank ND last year and tried to explain his way out of it? Lmao

I’m still convinced it was an accident and he was looking at like P4 standings or something but he tried to act like it was real

They were the national champion favorites (+550) just a couple weeks ago before the whales hammered OSU and Texas sending PSU to around +750. I don't know how you can bet on Franklin or Allar at this point but they do have the horses to contend I think.

Sure, they'll contend. Looking at their soft-ass schedule it'd be a surprise if they finish worse than 10-2, so likely they make the playoffs, at which point anything can happen. I just don't know why people think this is the year they finally start to beat good teams - which you must do at some point if you hope to advance in the playoffs.

They really do bring back a lot of talent. A QB that many NFL scouts think is a round 1/2 guy and definitively a top 2 RB group in the country helps you out.
This and and where they finished last year are why they are ranked where they are IMO.

and some serious, serious production at WR through the portal, and added Knowles as DC. I'm by no means scared of running into them in the playoffs but they will be formidable this szn.

I'll admit the PSU game was a toss up and either team was good enough to be the best team on the field that day. But they lost some elite talent and we did beat them.

Before ND had a single draft pick, PSU lost Carter (#3 overall), Tyler Warren (#14) , Kevin Winston (#82).

I get their RBs are back, but neither of them would start over our J Love.

I realize Penn State won 13 games and very nearly beat us, but the best team they actually defeated last year was, who... Boise? SMU?

They lucked into a high seed, and then drew probably the easiest road to the semifinals. Yes they added some nice transfers but also lost their two clearly-best players in Carter and Warren. Allar's a fine QB. They play creampuffs out of conference and most of their tougher Big Ten games are at home. I'd bet they make the playoffs. I just don't see them beating three straight top 10 teams once they're in there. Because they never have. But I guess there's a first time for everything.

Ref PSU, their QB and HC have yet to demonstrate they can win the big games. Knowles will help though.

Hot bunking and using someone else's happy sock would do that to anyone.

PSU was saved by the refs calling PI calls on Allar’s absolutely terrible downfield passing. They rewarded him for underthrowing his receivers by 5+ yards, negating interceptions.

They lost to a banged up Notre Dame team.

I think we are better than penn state and georgia, would even argue Ohio State. I also think Clemson is better than us as of today, ask me after 12 regular season games

I rewatched the Orange Bowl recently. It's hard to respect Allar after watching his performance in that game, even with the weak WR excuse.

If Allar had is a Round 1 or 2 QB, he would’ve completed a pass to a WR in our matchup last year. He also threw an INT to put us in position to win. I welcome a rematch this year. Go Irish!

This is the most critical part. Who disrupted our game plan that night? Those two. And you don't often develop top 15 TEs/DEs. Plus, I've never seen a Franklin team meet/exceed expectations. Let them have the lofty rankings, it's the steel noose that'll drag them to the bottom.
