Coaches poll is basically a 3 way tie for the 5th spot.

Ole Miss 1081 points
Oregon 1080 points
Notre Dame 1079 points

Oregon plays a really stout schedule with road trips to Michigan and Wisconsin and home games vs Ohio St and Boise St this week. They should drop below us eventually.
They better because if the playoffs were held with today’s rankings we’d be 9th and play at Oregon, with the winner playing Georgia.
I don’t want anything to do with that set up.
Four games in one week? That's brutal.

For your sanity, don't sweat this stuff until December. If ND handles business, they'll be ranked accordingly. I like ND not taking a massive jump. We still have to see who these teams really are. The next 4-5 weeks will give us enough data to start to get a rough approximation.

A game that ND won 20-14 en route to a National Championship! With Knute Rockne in his final season as head coach... can imagine that makes the ticket all that much more valuable

Couldn't find his profile. I think the comment is right. Very underrated. No one ever talks about him when discussing the best ND receivers.

I'm not sure we've seen a QB - WR duo that was more in tune than Quinn and Samardzija. They made some magic.

Shark will always go down as my favorite receiver. Supreme confidence and backed it up every time.
I love Samardzija (the football player) but he was completely contained by LSU in the Sugar Bowl. He simply could not get any separation the entire game. I think that would’ve been his NFL future and he knew it.

It would’ve been nice to see what he could do in the League. It’s the sole reason he’s overlooked.

Idk, I mean he was a physical freak even if not a burner. He made contested catches all of the time. I'm not saying he would've been a perennial pro-bowler or anything but he was a first round grade at WR for a reason.

I think he made the right choice by going baseball. Less toll on his body, and he made a TON of money eventually, particularly late in his career. He had > $100M in career earnings. It worked out for him, either way.

That UCLA was crazy. We had the perfect seats for that play and could see it unfold as he zig zagged towards the goal line. There was a UCLA dad and his young son (10-12?) sitting behind us. They left right before ND got the ball back assuming UCLA had it wrapped up. I still wonder what he thought when he heard the stadium explode. lol

I'll admit that I am an eternal optimist with the Irish. Even after the bad losses, I still try to enjoy the rest of the season because we only get 12 guaranteed opportunities to watch this team every year.
I bought in big time this summer. I was so hyped to the point of unrealistic expectations. The team is loaded, Marcus gets them up for "big" games, he apparently learned in year two how to crush the teams we're heavily favored against. All he had to do was take of business against the Purdues on the schedule and beat A&M.

This is crushing.

We have a big problem at the qb position. The season isn’t gonna get better until MF faces that reality. He screwed his NIL hire up.

My girlfriend, trying to make me feel better: “well hey at least texas beat michigan yesterday so our win last week looks really good!”
Me: “that was texas texas. We beat texas a&m. They played Mcneese State this weekend.”
My girlfriend: “is that an actual school???”

INFINITE PAIN

That optimism should come in handy when we start looking to 2025 b/c ND will be losing a ton on defense and breaking in a new QB to run the offense. That’s all before factoring in the transfers in/out of the program.

Hurts finished 2nd in the Heisman voting.

Don’t forget the OG…Russell Wilson. lol

I’m too lazy to research, and my brain memory don’t work good, but it feels like those guys might be outliers?

Hell, it took Joe Burrow a second season to take off, and that wasn’t just because Joe Brady showed up. Dude spent a year as a starter figuring it out.

That’s not to say Leonard would figure it out if he had two years, because my man looks like a deer in the headlights that also can’t throw… but if ND isn’t able to land a sophomore transfer that they’re willing to sacrifice a season for to make a run two years later, they might as well stick with their own dudes every year and let Gino actually do his job as a developer.

2022
Week One: ND surprises everyone by leading OSU in Q4 before finally falling to them in a hard fought game. Media basically gave them kudos for a “good loss” but the future looked promising based on their performance.
Week Two: ND implodes & gets embarrassed by a MAC team in the home opener

Week Five: ND beats #16 BYU in Vegas to get over .500 for the first time in Freeman Era
Week Six: ND inexplicably loses to a Stanford team that would finish 3-9

Week Nine: ND shocks even their own fanbase w/ a blowout win over #4 Clemson
Week 12: After TCB w/ wins over Navy & BC, ND shits the bed again & secures the Heisman Trophy for Caleb Williams on national TV

2023
Week Five: ND riding high 4-0 hosting #6 OSU. Absolute heartbreaker as ND snatches defeat from jaws of victory.
Week Six: ND walks into a hornets nest at Wallace Wade w/ possibility of big letdown. They win in miraculous fashion on a crazy 4th and forever scramble play by Hartman showing they can come off a heartbreaker w/ a win over a ranked team on the road seemingly righting the ship.
Week Seven: ND comes into UL and sleepwalks on both sides of the ball to blow a winnable game vs a ranked opponent. Competitive game that was there for the taking ends up being a blowout in the Fourth quarter when both sides of the ball implode. Inexplicable.
Week Eight: Once again ND shocks even their own fanbase w/ an absolute gem of a game over SC. They hand Caleb Williams his worst performance to date.
Week 10: Just when fans thought ND had got back on track to finish strong they show up in a sleepy Death Valley w/ every advantage one could ask for at such a venue (even Tigers fans expected an ND win) and once again shit the bed…especially on offense

2024
Week One: Despite having the higher rank, ND is expected to do what ND always does at tough venues on the road. They shock everyone w/ a 10 pt victory as media & fans proclaim them as a lock for the CFP based on their schedule lined w/ tomato cans
Week Two: ND under Freeman do what they do best…fuck up a good thing. By now we all own this DVD so we know how it ends.
