+11 seems like a lot for Cross. No?

Cross was listed at 288 on last year's official roster. Seems like he loses weight during the off-season before putting it back on before the season. Somewhat normal for those dudes that are just eating a lot to maintain a certain weight.

Since Bevacqua has taken over at AD he isn't afraid to open up the pocketbook and pay to keep key people in the program; I hadn't heard of Auman since this thread.

A lot more than Pete has changed. This is a group think colab in a restructured market. It's a different sport now and ND is willing to compete with the new rules because it has the resources to do so.

Swarbrick was an assassin when it came to executing Jenkins/BOT's vision... non better in the industry at doing so. Good news is Pete/Father Bob/Rewired BOT is >>> Jenkins/Old thought BOT/JS

After watching the first ten minutes with Beaux Collins and the new Aussie punter James Rendell I'm calling it now . . . Natty in January 2025'

So I guess ND is elevating several analysts to coaching positions with the new rules. Good to hear

So what is the difference, really? They can go out on the road recruiting?
Analysts couldnt provide on field instruction. Now they can. I dont know if they changed the amount of coaches that can be on the road recruiting

No limit to analysts. So assuming so. This is just another step in the arms race
Pay players, recruits, and add high school coaches uncles et al to employee positions. Was always happening down south and at Michigan anyways. Levels playing field at least for the financial haves

He’s fine.

He will be full-go by prep week, which is the 26th.
There is no need for him to tackle for two weeks of fall. Just one week of fall practice & one week of prep week.
Fall camp is 31 days. If he doesn’t tackle for 14 of them, who cares?
That’s homerism

Full go by prep week is far from ideal. Of course better than not having him at all, but there’s a reason for fall camp or training camp, etc. it prepares you

Wasn't even sure how to answer this, as RB and especially OL feel way low, but also going from what had to be one of the weakest WR rooms in the P5 last year to #10 is banking a lot on transfers and development.

RB is the most surprising to me

The results of this poll, or individual responses, would be a fascinating case study in "Casual" vs "Hardcore" fans.

I think those of us that spend our time here would be most surprised by RB, because we're familiar with the depth and incoming talent at the position, so we expect it to be much better than the 17th best unit in the country.

I think more "casual" fans would be most surprised by the OL ranking, as they just assume ND is always gonna be great on the line, whereas most of us around here recognize that the line, particularly the tackles, are gonna have some work to do to prove they're up to par with past ND lines.

Using the preexisting rankings

Move--

QB to 10

RB to 7

WR to 26

OL to 17

Only one that seems way out of line is WR at 10--way too high. If that actually materialized our offense would be elite

I can't really fault national types for sleeping on our RB room. Both Love and Price had their moments last year but neither was consistently feed enough volume to really form an opinion on from the outside looking in

Oline probably seems appropriate. If anything, probably being fair in giving the room the benefit of the doubt based upon the program's rep for producing good lines as none of the guys are really returning starters except for LG spot--which underwhelmed

I’m low key confident about the OL. Left tackle, right guard and center seem to be in good shape … inexperienced, but big, strong and very athletic. Left guard has a laundry list of top level talent with experience. I think it would be difficult to not field a competent right tackle with the talent this team has accumulated in the last few years. Riley Leonard’s mobility and athleticism will also cover some inexperience up front as the line gels. I expect this line to be formidable by mid-season.

If Leonard lives up to the hype and the OL answers some questions, and lives up to your confidence level, this team is gonna win at least one, maybe two, playoff games. Legit national title threat if they stay healthy.

This is kinda where I'm at. I agree the OL doesn't look up to our recent standards at the moment, but given the talent level alone I expect them to develop into a Top 15 sort of unit.
And yes a national writer is going to see Audric Estime departing and think RB will take a hit. We'll miss him of course but we've got good things coming. Just like when Kyren Williams left and Estime and Diggs stepped up. No worries there.

If OL gets to top 15 level we should have a very special team boys!

Are there 15 programs in the country with better offensive linemen? If not, it's largely a matter of coaching and experience. Not worried about the coaching, and the experience will come.

There you go again with that very intuitive and well reasoned response. I kinda want to be IrishLion when I grow up ☘️
