Wow, just saw this. From the comments section:

"Great letter. Too bad Jenkins and the BOT are too busy communing with their "saints", Harvey Milk, Margaret Sanger and Stalin to spend time making sure the real legacy of Notre Dame is maintained."

Communicating? I think the term is "engaging in dialogue."

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Lots of scholarships out there. Might not fill them but a surprising close to '17 might happen given 4-8: <a href="https://t.co/68DCzjgMbg">https://t.co/68DCzjgMbg</a></p>— 18 Stripes (@18stripes) <a href="https://twitter.com/18stripes/status/806138364097335296">December 6, 2016</a></blockquote>

Not sure if already posted but 18 Stripes updated their scholarship count. Highlights:
- Updated count 83
Includes:
- 5 5th years - McGlinchey, McGovern, Bivin, Smythe, Matuska (although do not need 7 TEs)
- Cage (but serious concerns about concussions)
Excludes (some official and some speculation):
- Kizer (NFL)
- Folston (NFL or transfer)
- Zaire, Holmes, Butler, Montelus (transfers)
- Hunter (going pro in something other than sports)
- one-year scholarship players

They think ND should pursue grad transfers for backup QB and NG.

2017 recruiting possibilities:
- WR - Martin
- DL - Paschal
- LB - Simmons
- CB - Graham

Well if there are any grad transfers available at NG, yeah they'd get significant time next year.

Should have been moved to safety early in his career. Part of me feels like Kelly kept him buried at WR and RB because he didn't want him to even see the field after the Lisa Ann shit.

Would love to see a 5Y war daddy walk in off the street. But there can't be very many out there who'd make sense. Is there anyone we whiffed on in recruiting four years ago buried in a depth chart someplace?

Folston is a threat to transfer, why? I don't think he needed more carries than he got, but maybe he feels differently.

almost 100% guaranteed to transfer out or tries the league...he wants to be the guy and his chances will only get diminished at ND...w/ adams, williams, tony jones

Regarding a DC hire, I was listening to a podcast and it was mentioned the DC at Central Florida who coached with the Todd Lyght in the past and coached at Oregon and the Philadelphia Eagles would be a great hire. Central Florida was 150th in rush D in 15, this guy came in and brought them to 12th. That's a huge jump. His 36 and apparently a great guy. Just thought I'd mention this. I personally think Elston would be a good hire but he's proven to be a great recruiting coordinator and I don't think they'd want to put too much on his plate.

For a completely different take, Mike Frank said he would aggressively go after Michigan's coordinator Don Brown to both bring in a top guy and send a message to CFB and the fans that ND is serious about returning to prominence.

I think Kelly and Swarbrick realize they cannot hire form within as it would immediately erode support even further. The Elston interview may have been just a courtesy.

Chinander is going to be a star DC, but he's not leaving Scott Frost right now. the two of them are basically a package deal.

Folston remains the best blocker and receiver and most reliable short-yardage back in that bunch. That will get him on the field. And if he can pick up some of his lost burst with another year of recovery he can certainly compete for more carries. If he wants to be The Guy somewhere, that's nice, but he's probably looking at a MAC school. Or he can be a leader at Notre Dame next year, preserve his body a bit, and position himself to be a versatile NFL back.
That's the case I'd make if I were BK anyway. Folston is a guy we're better off having.

Don Brown would have been a great idea 12 months ago. Now? Why would he go?

You have to be delusional if you think ND has that kind of pull. Michigan is murdering us in every sort of metric you can imagine. No amount of money would pry him out.

Throw a 3 year / $2.5M offer at him and watch how fast he says, "Scott who?"

Theres that, but can BK recruit? I get the impression that he'd rather ask Tim DeRuyter how his calendar for 2017 is looking and if he and Joey Boese are still on good terms..

First of all, he's under contract for 2 more years so you have to buy that out. He makes $850k per which is healthy but nothing special. Todd Grantham gets $1.3-1.5M from Louisville for example.

BUT IF ND wanted him bad enough, he'd be in South Bend next year. Money's the answer for everything..

If you want an old, boring guy who knows schemes... go grab Temple/Baylor/? Phil Snow. Or send me with the checkbook and I'll bring back Brent Venables if it makes everyone feel better, just don't ask what I gave him.

Smart money is still Jimmy Lake as long as Bryan Harsin doesn't get the Oregon job. Bookmark this page. Dude is a star but I think he's the DC next year at Washington.

Yesssssss! I know many complained about McG and Nelson under performing last year. I didn't see it that way. I wouldn't say they were "dominant" but they were certainly very good, especially Nelson. I'm gonna go ahead and say that they will be the best LG/LT tandem in the country next year.

We just lost 8 games.

We sure did.....McG and Nelson are still good lineman (especially Nelson) and they'll likely be bigger, stronger and better next year and we're darned lucky to have them back. I don't think there's much to argue about there.

247 reports that Booker had an in-home visit with 2017 3 star WR Braylon Sanders from a AA HS in Georgia. Has some good offers. Hasn't gotten an offer yet. 6'1 185 lbs. Good film. I'm thinking he's insurance if we don't land Martin and/or Calvin plus there's the issue of Holmes leaving. We have ESB, Claypool and Boykin on the one side but only Stepherson and McKinley who doesn't really have any experience, on the other. We're going to need help there from a freshman or two at that spot this year.
