Galaxy 7 or Iphone 6

Upgrade eligible next month, and deciding between these two phones, which are the same price for me. Galaxy 7 or iPhone 6s.

Coming off of a galaxy Note 4, so I'm used to the android, but do not like the constant updates to apps, and it feels like my apps crash/spin out too often. Had an iphone before the Note 4, so I'm comfortable with either phone.

Wondering if anyone has used both phones and has an opinion on which to go with? Likes/dislikes.

Why don't you like "constant updates to apps"? What apps do you use that crash or spin out? How's your WiFi? I'm on a Note 4 and I don't have any of those problems.

For me, I find that Apple products are much more dependent on the infrastructure. In other words, I'd use an iPhone if I also used iTunes and a Mac and an Apple TV. As a stand-alone device, I much prefer Android.

I don't have itunes or any apple apps, so that won't factor in. Snapchat craps out about 50% of the time and doesn't send. My wifi is good - I work from home 50% of the time and am on webex all day and have no issues.

I just don't like all of their pre-packaged apps, I don't use 90% of them, and I don't have 3 weeks to delete all of the ones I don't want. And they seem to get pushed updates all of the time. Kind of a minor thing, but one of my complaints about the android. Battery and camera will be important to me, then anything else that's new to these phones that I'd be unaware of being out of the phone market for the past couple of years.

You're a grown man. Don't use Snapchat.

I find it takes me about twenty minutes to disable the stock apps that I don't use, and Apple isn't immune to that either. Also, Apple gets app updates too. With either device, you can schedule your updates to run in the middle of the night so you never see it.

I have a Galaxy S6 and love it minus the kind of weak battery. From what I hear the S7 is basically the same phone with water resistance and a ton more battery life so that sounds like my dream phone.

Koon, if battery life is important to you, keep the Note 4. Nothing beats being able to pop in a fully-charged spare battery.

would be a good idea, but my Note 4 battery is hanging on for dear life, and the phone actually dies at 52%.

I'm not an iPhone fan, so I can't really give you a comparison, but I have the Galaxy 7 Edge and like it a lot. I had the 6 Edge previously.

The battery in the 7 gives me a little less than twice the battery life of the 6. I'd say I get about a day and a half on a charge. Takes about 2-2.5 hours to fully recharge.

The screen is great. I haven't noticed a significant difference between it and other high-end phones in this regard.

My camera is far better than my lady's iPhone 6 camera. Noticeably more clear and forgiving.

The Edge features on the 7 are more useful and less gimmicky than on the 6. They're not must-haves, though. Basically, while the screen is off, you can swipe your finger up and down on the edge to pull up notifications/news. While the screen is on, you can swipe toward the center of the screen to open up apps or favorite contacts. It makes the phone marginally easier to use with one hand. (This is only on the 7 Edge; the base 7 won't have this)

While the screen is off, the 7 automatically displays the time, date, and temperature. It's a nice feature -- you can see the time without touching your phone. It also has small, black-and-white icons that can alert you that you have texts/e-mails/calls/etc without turning on the screen. Similar to the blink on most phones but with icons distinguishing the type.

I have the galaxy s6 edge, I really like it alot. But sometimes I wish I had an Iphone just so I can face time and a couple other things with my family and friends.

I switched from iPhone 5 to Galaxy S6, and boy do I regret my decision.

I'm heading back to team iPhone once I've got this crappy Android paid off.

In all seriousness, I actually really like my Android. The camera/screen are phenomenal, and I like the customization options for home screens and wigets.

But I've had to send the phone back twice for defects that were out of my control, and the battery life is garbage. I have to have at least 40% battery when I go to bed, or else the phone dies on me overnight, which then means that I don't have an alarm in the morning. I think this is a third defect that's out of my control, but the only other point of reference I have for battery life is my old iPhone 5, so IDK. I could go to bed with my iPhone at 5% battery and wake up with my iPhone at 5% battery, because the phone wasn't in use, as it should be.

I have no idea what could possibly be running on my Galaxy over night that drains the battery so badly. I'm constantly using my task-killer to make sure everything is closed and not running, and I manually update my apps at work every Monday morning, so I know it's not getting drained by updates every night.

Another problem I have with my Android that I didn't have with my iPhone was the transition from wifi to data and back again during the day. My iPhone had no issues running both wifi and data at the same time, which meant that I could use wifi to send iMessages and run apps, but my data was still active, meaning I could get phonecalls and voicemails.

My Galaxy does not cooperate well with running Wifi and data together, even when I mess with the advanced settings. I have lost 5+ voicemails and not been able to recover them or even see who called me, because my phone won't use data while my wifi is also on.

I may re-evaluate when I have this piece of junk paid off. I really like the camera, and a Galaxy S7 will be enticing for that alone. But I realllllllly miss being on team iPhone. I never had issues with any of my iPhones like I do with this Android. I understand that I've probably just had terribly poor luck by getting a broken unit, which was then replaced by another broken/refurbished unit...

But I think I just trust Apple more after my life experiences haha.

There are a bazillion apps on Android that can do what FaceTime does. Google, Skype, and Line immediately jump to mind.

Always smart to buy your devices with cash.

Do you stay logged into Facebook? The Facebook Android app is a nightmare for battery. Your best bet is to disable it and use the Facebook.com mobile site.

Sounds like a network issue more than a device issue.

Yeah and I will be that annoying person asking everyone to download a new app and sign up for that app just for me.

And why is it always smart to buy a phone in cash? Most people don't have an extra $800+ to thrown down on a new phone. Their is no incentive to buying a phone in cash other than you can throw down another $800+ sooner than the next person.

I go Galaxy because of the expandable memory. I bought a 128gb card for it and can take 70gb of music with me anywhere. For long trips I download a season or two (or twenty) of a show and load it in there.

I have the S5.
I haven't gotten to this point yet, but I am looking to get one. Does it support that big of a card?

:rbanana:As an Apple shareholder I suggest the Iphone 6

I bought some shares years ago for my son's college fund.

It split two for one.

It split two for one again while he was in school.

When he graduated from a private university there were still 100 shares in "his" portfolio.

It then split seven for one soon after he graduated in 2009.

It was one helluva graduation present.

My parents fronted me the cost of a suit to "get a job" when I graduated ND in '74.

Accounting for inflation, I'd say that my lad got one helluva deal.

I still hold some shares, so I vote for the whatever the current iteration of the iPhone is out there.

Even though I'll probably never own one.*

*I'm an old fart cheapskate with no interest in 24/7 connectivity and all that bullshit jazz.

I will go ahead and give a short essay on iPhone's 6S+
I'm currently in Indianapolis, IN and working at a power plant. We use local union workers to fill our voids at laborer positions and operators. I've been to this area before and the help is.. let's just say sub-par.
On Friday afternoon I was dealing with a character who had more issues than a test tube baby. He was a mid-20-year-old laborer.
I had to fire him for being late 3 days and needing off early the other 2 days that he was with us.
I said my goodbyes and we were all on our way without distraction... Then I lost me phone... Were o were could my new phone be..

Find my iPhone app not only located the $700.00 phone but the police found it under his mattress about 8 miles from the job site.

I'll just say I've had experience with this type of loss on both ends of the Apple and Android spectrum. I'll always be an iPhone buyer.

The above is big. It's helped me find my phone a few times in the past 2 years. Also helped me find my IPad...

Also, I love the integration with the IPad. I was an Android guy (Had a Note 3 before I switched) for years before making the jump to the 6+.

I do miss some of the features (card storage like Buster mentioned), but overall I think I like the IPhone better. I've got 64GB and have been more than fine. I have Amazon Prime which comes with unlimited photo cloud storage, and pay an extra 25 a year to keep all my music in the cloud as well.

Buster I admit that I would have bet 100 bucks you were an IPhone guy.

And the Galaxy S7 also added back the memory expansion I believe.
I have the S6 also and love it. I have AT&T. What's odd is recently a software update came thru, since then I get at least 25% longer battery life. I find the biggest drag in my battery is when it switches constantly between WiFi and regular data or is searching for service. For me this comes from a few 'dead' spots at work.

Koon, if battery life is important to you, keep the Note 4. Nothing beats being able to pop in a fully-charged spare battery.

Two things with the batteries. Don't charge it till it's almost dead. If you charge it all the time when it's not close to dead it shortens the battery life. Also, use name brand charging devices. I've burned out a battery or two on Samsung, and my GF on iPhone, all from using generic aftermarket charging devices.

I don't know if the S6 has a lithium-ion battery like the iPhone, but if it does, then the batteries do not have "memory". So the method of charging has no effect on it.
