Its like 25 degrees right now in Charleston and people are losing their minds. No snow, no rain, really clear and sunny.

I have a friend in Winston-Salem and he said they shut the state down over an inch of snow. I can't imagine.

I would take that. It is about 10 here in central MA with wind chills close to 0 and it is still warmer than many places.

Here they will shut down everything if there is a hint of freezing conditions. Its mainly due to the bridges though. So many people work downtown and there is really only three ways out of the peninsula (downtown) so it can be problematic in bad conditions. But other than the temp it is absolutely beautiful here today and people act like there is 5 feet of snow on the ground.

You folks are welcome to keep our weather at least until April, if you'd like:) Here in Anchorage it's 39 (above) at 8:40AM. Even Fairbanks is at 39 this morning (And -40 isn't that unusual there in January). Seriously, be careful, and stay warm.

Seriously, when I saw your name on this thread I thought you were going to tell all of us to quit being pussies because it's 200 below up there or something. How did you guys get off so easy?

I have no idea, but I like it. We're used to rotating a week of 20-30 degrees and snow, with a week of single digits or lower and sunshine. This is the longest stretch of 30+ temps in January I can ever remember. Being an Alaskan, I'm certain we'll be punished for it eventually :)

I've had 2 days off in a row, so I ain't complaining. To me, it's not even that bad, and I'm from SoCal. Plus my daughter loves to play in the snow, so I don't mind the winter at all. Problem is it lasts too damn long...

That's how I feel. I like the change of seasons and the weather that comes with them. My complaint is how long winter lasts here in Pennsylvania. If it were about a month shorter and it could be traded with an extra month of Spring or Fall I'd be happy.

The joke here is that our 4 seasons are either 1. June, July, August, and Winter, or 2.Early Winter, Mid-Winter, Late Winter, and Road Construction.

I think our high here was yesterday and that was 27. When it snowed here Tuesday night it was -5 with wind chill.

I don't mind the cold but the wind kills me.

Man it's been cold, I thought living in the south I had fled the cold. I had to deal with the cold in Minnesota. It was in the teens yesterday morning on my way to work. It wasn't as cold as it was a few weeks ago though. My move to SoCal can't come soon enough. Just 4 more days.

In the District the temps have been ranging from low single digits to a high of 11 right now. Brutally cold as Lax can attest to.

I'm sure some have you have heard about this, especially those of you of you who live in the Chicago area and Northern Indiana. Idk if this made national news or not. But this big pile up happened about 45 minutes west of South Bend in Michigan City. I thought this was appropriate for this thread. 3 dead and 20+ injured.

'Something that will live with us forever' -- 3 killed, over 20 injured in I-94 crash | Local - Home

Yes it has been on the news. Just a horrible accident. One man that survived was pinned on top of and under multiple vehicles. Had to be a horrific ordeal for everyone involved. The Illinois/Indiana border was virtually inaccessible most of the week.

Today ain't bad its in the low 20s and sunny but more snow on Sunday night then another deep freeze Sunday into Monday and Tuesday. Double digit negative temperatures for lows both Monday and Tuesday into Wednesday morning.

The jet stream from what I understand is basically "drunk" it is lethargic and really sagging. The Jet stream separates the low pressure Artic air from the warmer air from the tropics. Because the jet stream is sagging it is allowing all the Artic go much further south that normal. So the midwest and northeast is experiencing blasts of northern Canada temperatures, and the south is experiencing blasts of northern US temperatures.

This has been the worst winter I've experienced in my 34 years living (snow fall & cold) that I can remember. Lived in Bay City then moved to Kalamazoo Michigan for college. So I've definitely have experienced LOTS of snow.

I will saw I don't hate the winter, but I'm eager for spring more than ever this year. As I get older, I HATE hot & humid summers more than ever. I like summer but when it's 90+ with lots of humidity it's just not for me.

In the LaFleur thread I referred to French Canadians being tough. I have walked through the streets in Quebec in January at -20 and have seen (many) people walking with jacket open, and just sweaters underneath.
