How about clearly identifying them as and treating them as the rouge state that they have become. They developed nukes in violation of international law, spied on the US repeatedly over the decades, carried out extrajudicial assassinations of foreign nationals globally and are now engaged in carrying out a genocide.

If the US and Europe withdrew their financial and military support and insisted on them changing course they would do so the next day. Trump to his credit made this clear when he insisted on the ceasefire at the beginning of the year.

Now, as to a boycott not working, that is inaccurate. The BDS movement (modeled after the South African Boycott) has been gaining substantial support and the current insane levels of censorship surrounding criticism of the State of Israel are a direct response to that. The government in Israel has seen its support has eroded significantly in the US and this has been their desperate response.

Lastly, your framing of the events regarding the Japanese surrender and that being the only example of “people not going down with the ship” are not accurate. First, a large contingent of the Japanese command was ready to fight to the bitter end even after the second bomb. There is a strong argument that what caused the Japanese to ultimately surrender was Russia agreeing to attack Japan.

Also, the State of Israel makes a big deal of the events at Masada where a significant number of Jews committed suicide as opposed to surrendering to the Romans.

There’s a strong argument that the South continued to fight long after it was clear there was no chance that they would win during the Civil War.

Brief criticism of this post: there really isn't such thing as international law. There isn't a global legal system, certainly not one that the US is on board with.

I don't know that I would use the American South as an analogue. My understanding from my dorky teen civil war phase was that post Gettysburg they were trying to basically hold out and bleed the North out until elections. They really only kept it going in any meaningful fashion for a few more months after Lincoln won.

Random fun fact since you bring up Japan: the US is still awarding purple hearts that were minted in anticipation of invading the Japanese main islands. Really crazy to wrap the mind around that the 1930's and 40's.

I think that’s a bit pedantic but sure.

Your assessment of the Civil War is inaccurate in my opinion. The war went on for several more months after Lincoln was reelected with basically all of the fighting occurring in Southern Sates. Sherman’s March to the Sea and his March Through the Carolina’s which ultimately ended the war being examples. According to Wikipedia about 39,000 confederate soldiers were killed or wounded during the five months of war in 1865 and they were consistently defeated in the majority of the battles.

Another reason I think it is an appropriate comparison is that a good deal of Southerners refused and continue to refuse to this day to acknowledge that it was the most shameful act of treason in US History. Instead they almost immediately began to venerate those involved in organizing and leading this treasonist act, conspired and succeeded in assassinating the duly elected President and then never really gave up the ghost on the violent system of apartheid in the South until forced to do so once again by the Federal Government and armed troops almost 100 years after the fact. Talk about fanaticism for a literal “lost cause”.

Interesting fact about the Purple Hearts.

The early to mid 20th century is without a doubt the most violent period in human history.

It's also inaccurate insofar as Lincoln's opponent in the election of 1864 was Gen. McClellan. McClellan advocated for continuing the war and re-taking the Southern states. It was at odd with the stated aim of the Democratic ticket, but the party was bitterly split at the time, and had McClellan somehow won(which was all but impossible by late summer of 1864) he would have been in control of the Army of the Potomac and continued the war.

Also, for all the pub that Gettysburg gets, the victory at Vicksburg on the same day may have had a larger strategic impact. The victory there effectively completely surrounded the Confederacy and cut it off from their western front/states, eliminated any mobility they had along the Mississippi River, gave the Union a toe hold in the Deep South for future engagements, and was arguably a larger blow to southern morale.

You can spot the pro-Hamas bias here on CNN because they clearly don't give a shit about the families who were brutally murdered on Oct 7 when the people came over from Gaza and started the whole damn thing. Why did Israel drop the bombs????

Only a few of the leaders in Europe recognize the shitstorm they created. Keir Starmer has been tweeting only about immigration lately and I think the brits realize that the Biden approach to borders is insane. I also don't think the US is alone. Macron met with them as well and I think the west is trying to normalize here.

It got out of control during post-COVID in many places (it was already simmering before that) because there was a shutdown of travel/immigration and then governments worldwide ramped up mass migration as soon as they could once lockdowns were lifted. And many of these people flat out refuse to integrate or refuse to work. They've now studied it long enough in the UK to know that these people are a net drain on the economy and one of the main reasons they were bringing them in was to pay for Pensioners... well, if you are living off welfare and contributing nothing that doesn't work.

Ireland is another one to really keep an eye on because they went from 85%-90% ethnically Irish people in the 2000s to 77% today... phrased another way, there are proportionally about double the non-Irish folk that there were a generation ago. And rapid changes cause a reaction.

our Muslim population is 1.3%. The ~18-20% remainder are majority British people. Even our biggest and most visible immigrant population which is Polish which sits at 2%. Any notion that Ireland has an immigrant problem is false and crime statistics back that up

You don't import criminals. Those you do import sound like they appreciate the opportunity, therefore don't cause problems. Immigrants should commit crimes at dramatically lower rates than natural born or else you are doing a real crappy job filtering them on the way in. Pointing to predominantly white immigrants and low Muslim % as proof of a successful immigration policy is labeled as racist when applied to the USA - at least by the enlightened race baiting douche nozzles on this board.
