Since several authors, Poe, Hemmingway, et al were noted for writing under the influence the Game Day threads, any of them, should be fertile ground.

At the university that I attended for undergrad, there was a French professor who swore that writing a good paper required drinking a bottle of wine. Cheers.

Almost anything worth doing requires wine either before, during, or after.

I have written two fiction novels and one devotional. I am working with an editor on one, the other is first draft only. I am currently writing a third, but it will be a while.

My devotion al is the only published work on Amazon.

I'm making the push to get a novel I've been working on done and ready for self-publishing next spring. I also have a crime fiction short story blog. I try to post a new story every week or two just to get in the habit of pumping out new stuff to keep the creative juices flowing. It's www.hardboiledtales.wordpress.com (shameless plug).

I suggest picking up Derek Murphy's "How to Write, Format, Publish, Promote Your Book Without Spending Any Money." It has lots of good tips and resources for DYI authors. Also, keep a copy of Elmore Leonard's 10 rules for writing on hand to help keep yourself focused and grounded. Good Luck.

I also suggest doing what one can call weak point training. Some aspects of writing are going to come more naturally and some things are going to be a struggle. So write a very short story here and there that focuses heavily on your weak points. So if dialogue is a struggle, write a 5000 word story of two people having a conversation. If creating vivid descriptions of physical locations or character's appearances are tough, write something about that. But don't torture yourself trying to make yourself do something that you don't like. Just remember to play to your strengths. Dashiell Hammett didn't mess around with creating incredibly descriptive worlds and delving deep into the emotional worlds of his characters. He was too busy constructing well-crafted mystery stories with whip-crack dialogue and hard case characters.
