Well, that worked out. A couple of thoughts:
1. That was the U.S's best game this World Cup.
2. I hate Marta. Hated her before this game, hate her now, will always hate her if she keeps flailing around every time she gets touched. Reminds me of Rivaldo:

3. Anybody else notice that the Brazilian girls have five stars over their crest. Anybody else know that anytime you see a star over a crest it means a World Cup win? The brazilian women have never won a world cup. You don't see the men's US team with two stars over their crest for the women's world cup wins.
4. ESPN better put this on their instant classics que.

Brazil's goalie came off the goal line before the shot was taken.
That is what Hope Solo "did" to give Brazil their second PK at the 66th minute. (she really didn't though, and the USA should have never had to go through ET and PKs to win this game)

I saw the replay, I really think it was one of the US players that encroached into the box behind the kicker. Never called unless it is obviously blatant. Ridiculous either way.
Kind of like having your running back push your quarterback into the endzone. A rule, but never called.

Confession I am NOT a soccer fan (due to a experince I had when my 5 year old was playing and the coaches got in an all out brawl...AND I hate when the players dive).
HOwever, this was a great game. US spirit is alive and kicking.

wowsers, what a friggin' game!?!?!?!!?!?!?! and as mcgriff said....the pride of american soccer.
i was so proud of our ladies and can't lie....it brought a tear to my eye.
screw that referee too. she should be banned from ever reffing a game of that magnitude.

i agree, but with france pressuring high up the pitch, our girls didn't really establish a rhythm. so the only outlet they utilized was the long ball. we had no forward presence.
my gripe is how does amy rodriguez maintain a starting role? she's done nothing this entire world cup. once morgan came in, the impact on the game was immediate. i realize that morgan had fresh legs but she added a dynamic that amy truly doesn't....speed. if amy's fast, i'm the pope. and most of the time, all amy did was lose possession of the ball.
i think we are surviving on talent alone and if we don't watch it, it could bite us in the arse in the final. pia sundhage hasn't helped our team develop some sort of identity. make your mind up, is it possession or directness (more of a possession with purpose to get forward type, not long ball)? we seem to vary between the two & it looks awfully incosistent.
hopefully loyd and box were just tired today, because they were very suspect in the midfield in possession. our timing was off a bit, but luckily we took advantage of abby wambauch's airprowess for the game winner. and morgan's touch on that chip was sweet.

We needed something new & hopefully Klinsmann is the answer. I personally thought that the coaching change move should have been done last year after the World Cup, but better late than never. The WC 2014 cycle is coming soon and glad to get some new blood in there.

I'm definitely excited. The U.S. needs to play a more imaginative, technical brand of soccer. We try to simply out-athlete everyone, and you can't consistently beat the best teams in the world that way. Maybe this won't work. Maybe we don't have the skill to play the way Klinsmann will try to play. But we had hit a ceiling with the current approach and this is the move that presents the greatest chance for real improvement.
