USA v Jamaica about to start at 3 on FSC. Gold Cup quarterfinals (knock out rounds) so it's a must win. If we lose this, Coach Bradley is gone for sure. Very, very poor showing thus far if you haven't been following.

Should be a good game. Gonna flip between it & golf.

USA looked good. Dempsey with a nice goal to seal it. Might be a rematch vs Panama on Wednesday.

Yeah, it was a much better performance than what they've shown. My brother (HUGE soccer fan) is coming in from Miami this week, and if the U.S. make the finals we'll be going to the game at the Rose Bowl.

Mexico has looked unreal so far (although I didn't get to see yesterday's game). Would love to see US-Mexico. Plus my brother has friends in Sam's Army so it would be good for tailgating...

Panama beat El Salavador so we get a rematch with them on Wednesday. Surely we can't lose again to them, right?

Don't call me Shirley...US looked much better from what I saw (with the fam over for most of the game that didn't really want to watch the game...), w/out Donovan not in the startin XI and Altidore for pretty much all of the match. Jamaica did have me scared some though.

Clint Dempsey...the White Ghost! They couldn't see you Clint!

Me and my buddies were dying when we saw that. Deuce played great and he definitely said what NDinL.A. posted. We played great in the 4-2-3-1. I'm so happy Bob split from the 4-4-2! Finally. Great match and I'm looking forward to the Semis.

agreed. personally i like the 4-2-3-1. as much as people want to say that it's a defensive formation, it actually is an attacking formation when in possession it becomes a 4-3-3.

i like how we are hitting our stride and hope we can avenge a loss to a subpar team in panama.

but as mentioned earlier, mexico is looking scary good. we tend to step up to our competition, so if we do make the final vs. mexico, i hope we put up a great fight pull one out. i'm still reeling from the 5-0 arse whoop from a couple years ago.

I think it fits our team well. Two of Bradley/Edu/Jones as the holding mids, with one licensed to get forward. Duece behind the striker, and I'd personally have Lando on the left so he can cut in on his right. Place whoever they want on the right with Jozy up top. Cherundolo bombing forward from the right back spot, so maybe you'll want Lando over there to link up with him. I'd have Bedoya on the right though. With Agudelo, one of the DMs not starting, and Kljestan and the other mids providing depth. Either way, we get a much better formation for our players. Counter is deadly from 4-2-3-1, which is what Bob likes to do. I hate forcing the players into a 4-4-2 when it's just not our best formation.

can't argue with all you've said. my only knock is jozy. his work rate sucks for that lone striker. hell at 41, i've got more energy up top than him. unfortunately, bob bradley screwed up and didn't put ching on the team. instead he selected freddy adu (what a waste of a roster spot). i don't know of it's due to ching being injured or what, but for me ching would be the perfect lone striker in this formation. he works harder and does a better job of bodying up defenders....where jozy only does it when it matters to him. jozy's lazy.

agreed both our backs (or wing-backs in this formation) are great at getting forward into the attack (cherundolo & lichaj). especially like you pointed out....in the counter attack.

i like what bedoya has done, but i'd like to see robbie rogers at there. he's good with the ball at his feet and that would allow the wing-backs to overlap. i like bedoya's workrate, but i like robbie's technical abilities more.

oh well.....i just can't wait for wed. to come .

Jozy is the best we have, and he started to look serviceable before his injury in the Jamaica match. Agudelo is way too inexperienced to anchor our front for the Semis and Finals.

I've seen Rogers in some friendlies and I haven't been impressed. Bedoya has been in a lot of good positions and played well for the first part of this tournament. To each his own I suppose.

I'm psyched for Wednesday. Gonna be great.

yes he is....and he plays like it. what i mean is, he plays with selective passion cuz his spot doesn't ride on his work rate. if only brian mcbride could be a birdie in his ear. mcbride learned playing for fulham that your work rate has to change. and when that occurred, mcbride played great for them and the u.s. team.

so far all i've noticed out of u.s. forwards is that once they get to be the man.....their work rate plummets. and that may be due to bradley letting his forwards be prima donnas (who knows). i surely miss davies cuz he was different in that regard. even though davie wasn't the same kind of forward i loved his work rate.

i think if...and that may be a big 'if', but if jozy figures that out...the sky's the limit with him.

Jozy is the best we have up front for sure... and that shows how far behind we are in comparrison to other top countries up front... Mexico included now unfortunately... we have world class midfielders and have had top GK for quite some time... the defense seems to be eroding from the last generation and that is a concern... but above all we have no one who I feel great about up front... Jozy included honestly.

it sure does show how far behind we are and for me, why isn't that a motivator for jozy. he goes abroad and gets benched....wouldn't that be a sign that maybe he needs to work harder????

anyway....

i think our defense will get better over time when younger players come thru the ranks. bocanegra is getting older, along with cherundolo. we are scratching the surface with some younger talent (spector, ream, lichaj & chandler which i don't understand why he turned down playing in the gold cup). and once onyewu comes back healthy, that'll bolster our defense for sure becuz goodson & ream have shown some promise.

it may not help us in the cup immediately, but i think our defense will get stronger down the road with experience.

our biggest weakness and has been for some time is not having a dangerous forward that can flat out finish.

THing is Jozy is big, strong, certainly not slow... and has one of the hardest shots I have ever seen... that alone should equate to him being better than he is... don't understand it at times.

the trend with u.s. forwards is that our coaching staff allows them to play with a lack of effort & no consequence to their play. at least, that's how it looks to me when i watch them becuz even when you watch our younger national teams play, the work ethic for our attacking players is very poor. maybe jozy knowing he's all that we have, affords him the time to play lazy....i don't know.

technically they are gifted, but it's like they are given a free pass by our coaching staff to not over exert themselves. drives me nuts.

Can't wait!

It's gonna a road game at the Rose Bowl. The Mexican fans will show up in full force (they LOVE their team), and they are BRUTAL towards American fans. And this isn't racist at all - I have several Mexican friends, my goddaughter is Mexican, my 2nd mom is Mexican, etc etc - it's just that their fans are about as bad as they come when it comes to Americans and soccer. Seen it first hand.

But the game should be awesome. Mexico should be favored, the way we are playing and the way they FINALLY have a true world class striker again. My brother is in town from Miami, and his wife is Mexican so we'll be watching it with her family and some Spaniards as well (we'll be rooting for the good guys of course).

Nice to see some fellow soccer fans on here .... I'm a huge ITALIA fan and of course USA as well. As for tonight's game, I'm hoping for the best but it's gonna be a tough one. Mexico has improved a great deal and Chcharito is VERY good. Hopefully our young stud Aguedelo can make a name for himself tonight (glad Altodore won't be playing)...and all I know is Donovan BETTER be starting !! He's too good to bring in after half time.

LETS GO USA!

My wife and daughter are both part Mexican,... and you're dead on, and if segments of thier fans are going to act that way without getting called out, they we can at least point it out without being racists... I posted earlier that this game should be dubbed "There will be blood" moreso for the stands, it has potentil to be bad, personally you could not pay me to go to this game in person,... When I heard the final was in So Cal I face palmed... it should be as far north as possible any time these two meet imo... although with all the talk of the fans, the Mexican team has shown a downright dirty style of play towards our boys for years now... long history there.

When I visit with my wife's Mexican-American family and they talk soccer (I'm more into it than any of them, they are all casual) they mention how they go for USA and Mexico... I totally understand from heritage aspects of course... but the sports fan in me who knows better rolls my eyes at them... lol

Some of it is from our side too now,... I grew up in a neighborhood nicknamed "little Mexico" ... the events that followed us being knocked out in the 94 World Cup,... contrasted to the events of Mexico getting knocked out (I believe a day later) are still hardwired into me I'll admit... Every great rivalry has it's history I guess

ANYWAY, their boys have shown an ability to get into grooves where they unlock teams with ease lately... whereas our defense has been unlocked quite easily many times in this tourney... not a good combo...

my hope is that my assesment of Chicharito is correct and he is a classy kid and he stays that way(i only judge from his play and attitude on the pitch, I know nothing otherwise, but he seems like a good kid thus far)... If he does he can go a long way towards changing the culture of that team... over time who knows... as of now, "good ole fashioned hate" covers it on both sides

I watched some of that as well... though when no more than 20 people go to see the game it makes me wonder why I bother with it on TV...

Gotta love him. Match rating wise, he was the highest rated player in the Prem through the first half of the season to his injury. Most likely he's going to be our midfield genereal for 2014. I'm a huge fan of Stu's.
