I was just commenting on Liverpool's situation that ACamp asked for. I understand that there are other American owners, but Liverpool and ManU are wholly owned, and dwarf Aston Villa. I'll agree that Arsenal has been more successful in recent years, but they haven't won much silverware, because they turn a profit. They are one of the only EPL teams to do so, and it makes good financial sense. Arsenal does not realize their potential because they develop some of the best players in the world, and then sell them to make a profit. Now that is perfectly fine from an ownership point of view, but the fans want trophies. Arsenal should have a hell of a lot more trophies than they do. As for the Aston Villa being more successful than Liverpool, you really can't even argue that. There is no way, no how. Arsenal I'll admit, but Villa, really? It wasn't a war of words, we were just messing around, it's what we do.

ACamp

I was stoked that OL got the equalizer. They honestly looked really solid for the first half, but Real turned it on following the break, and they were lucky to break even. OL need a winger, those crosses were atrocious throughout the game.

A lot of tnhe people o the LFC forums want Sergio Ramos, but he played OL onside for their goal and is a foul committing machine. There is no denying his talent, but I don't think he's our solution.

I was unhappy that Chelski got the win. I hate Torres and hope they don't qualify for CL next season. **** the Chavs!

Sorry, wasn't trying to be confrontational. I wasn't trying to say that Villa are more successful on the field than Liverpool, I was just saying that since they didn't go into administration or close to it, they're more successful than Liverpool in that regard. Villa has also been more stable over the past 2 years. As far as performance on the field, Liverpool has it over Villa easily.

Another thing Arsenal does (or doesn't do) is overspend in the transfer market. That helps with turning a profit. Arsenal spending more than 15 million pounds on a transfer would be extremely surprising.

Also, I realize you guys were messing around, I was trying to be ironical but I refuse to use smiley faces or LOL.

I wasn't trying to be confrontational either, just trying to answer your post. if you're going with stability, then almost every club in the PL has been better than Liverpool in the past few years.

Arsenal refuses to pay for quality in the transfer market, and that's why they are on such a long trophy drought. They have a tremendous academy, and Wenger is, arguably, the best manager in the world at latching on to and holding top young talent. He then develops that talent into a world class player and eventually they are sold. They do such a great job of development, that if they spent the money on filling a hole or two in the squad, keeper and center half for example this season, they would be even better than they are. While they are always towards the top of the table and challenging for trophies, they haven't won them. That is why their method is questionable. It's tremendous in many regards, but if they just spent a little for quality, they could still turn a profit, although smaller, and bring home the silverware.

I will print out a Marseilles logo and tape it to my shirt when watching that match tomorrow. I desperately hope the Mancs fall.

It's not impossible for Arsenal to win anything, they are at tremendous side, but not as good as they could be, is all I'm saying. They develop and sell, it keeps them at the top of the table, always challenging, but rarely winning, and it keeps money flowing to investors.

I don't hate Mardid so much as I hate Ronaldo.

arsenal is like celtic in that regard... though we play in a league were you can do that and still win some silverware quite reg.

I dislike CR too... but he does like Parkhead and claims to admire Celtic so he can't be all bad... lol

Here's a talking point... It would be curious as to how Celtic, Rangers and even Hibs and other could fare long term in the BPL... I think they could win and beomce stationed in the prem. league given time... both Celtic and Rangers have proven they can compete in their better years with much of the English teams here and there... (Celtic beating Man u, Chelsea, Spurs and others all within the same calender year a few years back for example) obviously they'd be in danger of being relegated with their clubs right now (though I'm not so sure they would even NOW)... but that's with SPL income... bump it up to BPL income and such and give it five-ten years with their international followings... both would have every opportunity to compete with the cream of the island...

that's me theory... thoughts?

Hmmm, interesting question. I think they could compete to start with although it may be tough. Five to ten years down the road, I think no doubt they could compete for Europa spots, possibly Champions League spots. Obviously Celtic & Rangers would have the best chance, maybe not so much for Hibs & Hearts.

Just my two cents.

They could certainly compete in the EPL, better than many towards the bottom of the table at this time. The only problem would be the global revenues required to be towards to the top of the table and challenge for titles and CL spots, which is required for long term success. They have support, better than many sides right now, but over the long run they would have to grow their brand, which they should be able to do, in order to move up towards the top.

I think ManU is going to romp Marseilles so I'm going to watch Bayern/Inter.

Bayern gets the goal in the 90'. ManU shockingly plays another boring, eye bleeding game. I had both streams up, and the ManU/OM game was terrible. Much more action and attacking play in the Bayern/Inter match.

So where does Rooney end up after the transfer period???? Anyone actually see him staying put long term?? I honestly don't at this point, Man U clearly doesn't need his reg. production anyway...

Personally I see him staying at Man U. With the contract extension he signed recently, I think it would be hard for another English team to sign him, especially with the financial fair play going into effect next season. I personally wonder if teams outside of England value him all that highly. I do think Man U would be fine w/out him with Chicharito and Berbatov coming into form.

If someone did go after him, I'd love to see him go to Man City, just for the derby implications.

From what I gather it means that clubs have to balance their books at the end of the season. They can still make transfers (probably less big ones than in previous years) but can't go into significant debt to sign players ala Barcelona and Chelsea. UEFA really wants to avoid situations like Portsmouth last season and Liverpool this season where administration (bankruptcy) was a serious option.

I think UEFA wants teams to develop more talent in their youth academies rather than a Chelsea situation where a billionaire owner comes in and flies around the world buying players up left and right.

Many were very surprised when Man City signed Dzeko in January because many thought they would need a fire sale of players to get ready for FFP but I guess we'll see.

Interesting... it's a nice thing I suppose to try and protect clubs from themselves... I was worried that it was some kind of major cap or worse rev. sharing... though I believe if a CLUB team can not balance their sheets then buh-bye... it's not like an American Sports Franchise in that regard... there are pleanty of other clubs fighting to fill that spot and employ those players, coaches and staff memebers

I'll have to learn more about this... like what happens if some team is about ten mill. in debt. (Like Celtic is now) but has over 50 mill in transfer money coming their way within two years(Like Celtic has currently)... do they have to slash payroll before they add any outside players, transfers or loans??? I'll def. have to find out more...

thanks for the post and the link.... resp for both.

No problem, I'm kind of curious myself as to what the punishment will be for teams in violation. I have a feeling it will be a slap on the wrist like baseball's luxury tax but hopefully I'm wrong because the teams I follow, already play by the rules.

I don't think UEFA would have a problem with the Celtic situation you presented. So long as that transfer money is $ coming in covers the debt on the books at the time and the $ coming in is definite.

January was the last transfer window which had no effect on FFP. That's why some teams did it. There are plenty of loopholes which will develop in this for the rich owners to buy an incredible side. I do appreciate the heart of the bill, to protect the supporters from poor ownership a la Hicks and Gillette and the Glazers. The owners skate and the supporters suffer. Money will still rule the day, and if your club has it, you'll be fine. It does complicate matters for the loaners, but that's all well and good in my estimation.

80th minute in the LFC match. Just so you don't download it for five minutes. Although their may be extra time and penalties.

No, you have to check the lists. For SlipStream, go to the sports menus on the top, and look for your game. For myp2p, go to live sports, football. I am 100% certain they have SPL on p2p.

No account or profile necessary. Click the TV next to the flashing red live on the right and you'll see the available streams to view the match. There won't be any now since it's Thursday. Like I said, some will be SopCast and there are a few other ways to view matches like Stream Torrent. I have them downloaded but just never click on those options. I would keep checking SlipStream on the weekend, check the sports menus at the top, because they have a more extensive list with more English commentary.

Once you navigate around the sites for a few matches you'll have it all figured out. It's a learning process, I went through the same thing. I didn't understand anything when I first found the sites.

That'll be another good thing about moving to Texas... instead of having to get up at five to catch games I'll be able to get up at 7 and still see the game from the start...

No kidding, that's one thing I'm looking forward to going back to PA for a year while my wife deploys. I'm nine hours behind England, so I have to get up or stay up to watch games at 0330, 0400, 0500, and 0600. It's brutal trying to follow. Five hour behind is substantially easier than nine.

I get the navigation part... and know where to look... the thing that frustrates me is I'll see a game I want to stream.... click on it... and if it's not an ESPN stream the vid will not play.... happens maybe 4 out of 5... seems like none of the streams work.
