I always thought Argentina were classy.
They're quickly proving me wrong.
They have always been a bunch of whiners and complainers...Im happy for Messi, but I was rooting for France..such a deep team, even with 5 starters missing at the beginning of the tournament. But definitely one of the best ones I have seen in quite some time.

The Bundesliga doesn't start up again until January 20th.

Premier League teams will play 4-6 matches between now and then depending on what domestic cups they're still in.

So now after reading a few things & seeing the clips, I have no problem with Martinez mocking MBappe.
Before the WC, MBappe did an interview talking down South American teams.
And there is a clip of France, after winning the 2018 WC, singing a song & mocking Messi, with MBappe front and center.

So it sounds like Martinez was getting a little payback.

like not to be mean but there whole football culture is about not being classy and basically taking motivation from everything. Everyone is an enemy and everything said is noticeboard material.

Jonathan Wilson wrote an excellent book about their football history and i HIGHLY recommend it

The last World Cup I read a really interesting piece on the politics of the Argentina national team.
It was crazy.
Basically talking about how certain people of power purposely sabotaged the team & how some of the best players weren’t allowed on the team & others were forced to sit due to “injury.” And even a four year span where players had to pay for security, training & medical staff out of their own pockets. And players basically begging Messi out of retirement to save the team from missing out on their first World Cup, when they needed all wins to finish qualifying, with Messi getting the hat trick on the final day to qualify them in a win or go home situation.
It basically talked about the Argentina “golden era” that should have been from 2010-2018 was ruined by the FA in Argentina. They kept making it to major finals without funding, friendlies, practices, & often their best players (outside of Messi), but we’re scene as failures.
Between ‘14 & ‘22, Argentina went to all 4 Copa Finals & 2 of the 3 World Cup Finals, without Tevez, and often times without DiMaria, Higuan, Ageuro, etc…only Messi playing in all the Finals. They didn’t lose any in the 90, only ET or PKs.
Yet their FA didn’t support them and considered them failures.
Now since, with mostly all new players outside an old Messi & often injured older DiMaria, they have won the last Copa & World Cup, with new leadership & coaching that supports the players.

Forgot about the Liverpool/City game. Watched the highlights, looked like another good one between these two. Luckily for City, Nunez appeared to have money on them.

One of the things that really pisses me off is the thing that’s become part of daily life the past 10 years of people pulling out stuff from 25 years ago against people.

I can’t imagine what I did as a teenager that would “destroy” me today?

I mean, who here didn’t play the football game, “smear the queer” as an 8 year old?

I read his story he posted and found it crazy that someone actually thought it was blackmail worthy. Yeah, so he fucked up 31 years ago when he was 18. Big deal. He married her and they’re happy (I assume).

Reminds me of the scene in “A Time to Kill” with McConohaugy and Samuel L.

Also, the lengths of the USSF involving themselves in this leads me to believe that GGG will be the gaffer for the next WC cycle.

Not sure whether to laugh or cry about this.

2023 off to a ridiculous start for USMNT.
Wow - I am not a GGG fan at all, but this is awful. There is no reason to be bringing this information out. If the details of this leak are true, it shows the Reyna family in a way worse light than GGG.

The Reynas seem like very toxic people from what I'm gathering as of late. He is perceived to have talent so people will look past it.

Meanwhile, Enzo Fernandez's 14 matches with Benfica and a World Cup have him going to Chelsea for $120M.

He's played 14 league matches with Benfica since joining them this past summer. Benfica should be laughing their asses off. Don't wait. Take this money now and sell him. $120M for a central midfielder. Completely insane.

- Reyna isn't getting as much playing time as he would like, so he's pouting and loafing at practice during WC prep.
- GGG informs Reyna that his role at the WC will be limited because of his loafing.
- Reyna behaves even worse, the team votes on whether to send him home or not.
- GGG makes comments during an off-the-record panel about an unnamed player being selfish and almost getting sent home.
- GGG's comments get publicly linked to Reyna, breaking the off-the-record confidence of the setting.
- Reyna's family is upset about both his playing time AND GGG's now-public comments about their kid.
- The upper levels of the USSF is an Old Boys Club, so Reyna's dad gets his wife to try and blackmail GGG with a college incident she knows about.

Reyna's dad is a coward, his mom is a Karen, he is a spoiled brat, and GGG is terrible at managing big personalities in general (and maybe mismanaged the most talented roster pool the USMNT has ever had at their disposal).

What a mess!

As far as centerbacks go, they sould be fine.

Saliba and Konate could eventually be their center half pairing if they continue to develop at Arsenal and Liverpool. They have to overtake Kounde and Upamencano. Hernandez, who was injured, is 26. There's Disasi too. Varane is 29. I don't know if he's back in 2026. Badiashile, Kalulu, Simakan and Lukeba are all on the current U21 team.

Squad right now is avg 26 years old and all three keepers probably skew that. No idea what is really in the pipeline there. Fullback situation, also couldn't say.
Headed to Chelsea from Monaco. Deal looks all but done.

Crazy how the USSF just cycles through all the same people. It’s gonna take them another 3 decades to realize that former top players are not actually the best managers/bureaucrats, and sometimes you need an outsider.

Though it’s hard to say it was any better when they brought in JK.

Frankly the organization could use a Jack Swarbrick..*ducks*
