Of all the teams, the top two in the PL get drawn together... ugh.

Although United is looking good in the PL, I think the lack of trophies (any trophy) is starting to add up. Should be a good game between United and Pool (at least I hope United make it a good game).

It seems like Liverpool are taking the FA Cup more seriously this year than in past years. Klopp loathes these domestic cup ties, but Gini Wijnaldum gave an interview recently and said they want to win the FA Cup since they have not in so long.

Feels like City and the London Three have put much more into it in recent years. I still zero in on Champions League and the League more than the FA and League Cups.

Seems like that's the norm for every major club. The domestic cup is either a consolation prize or a nice value-add as part of a double or a triple, but it doesn't hold a candle to winning the CL or your league.

You still see Bayern, Barca, PSG and Juventus having won it more often than not in recent years.

For those clubs, especially PSG and Juve, they should be totally focused on their league and Champions League. If it comes down to fielding a B Squad or the U-23s to give your senior team a break, do it in a domestic cup tie.

That likely has more to do with the lack of parity in those leagues than it does with an increased emphasis on the domestic cup.

Absolutely. I'd say England and Spain seem to have a more diverse group of winners in recent years. For England, at least the FA Cup. City has their hands firmly gripped on the League Cup now for the last 7 years.

I'm pretty sure if you took the 2nd 11 for Bayern Munich and ran them out in the Bundesliga and Domestic Cups, they'd have a pretty decent shot at qualifying for the Champions League. Makes me sad how nobody has really challenged them in a decade.

Watching the United game. Shaw wins 50/50 ball, pass goes to Cavani, Cavani got tackled and the defender didn't get ball, got a yellow.

VAR - Shaw got ball, but ended with cleats up, gets a yellow (deservedly). Burnley defender's yellow gets taken away.

So, like Van Dijk's injury, since that play shouldn't have happened, no card. So I guess anything after an obvious foul that will get called back is fair game and no cards will be issued.

I wish I had your grievances.

I foresee a 1-0 win in United's future. Today.

Thats one way of doing things lol. Congrats to EPL on consistently being trash.

Juventus has signed Brian Reynolds and will loan him to Pipo Inzhagi at Benevento

Was originally just thinking 2026 WC champs but all these young Americans going abroad and dominating I now think it’s just winning every World Cup in perpetuity.

Kidding aside this is great. Matthew Hoppe who moved from Orange County SC to Schalke had a hattrick this weekend giving them their first win in almost a year. Gonna be nice be good, Berhalter willing.

Good call on the score prediction. At least it wasn't a penalty that shouldn't have been allowed.

In this case, we have the same grievance. It's a much lesser version of Van Dijk getting blown up and Pickford not getting a red because there was a foul before that play happened. It's a crock and they need to find a way to fix it.

How has that Maguire header been disallowed... smh!

No clue, if they are calling guys for having hands on a defender's shoulders at the top of their jump, 90% of headers are fouls. Peter Crouch apparently said he would have far less goals if that was a foul when he played.

No, we do not.

Please explain to me how these are both not fouls that were committed but no action was taken place because VAR found a foul before? Obviously Van Dijk suffered a severe injury, which I noted and said the United one was to a lesser degree.

You said it. Liverpool lost their best defender for the season. No card was given, no foul was given, no action was taken by the FA, but within the last week Michael Oliver admitted that Pickford should have been sent off. Pickford has a history of this kind of reckless play and he's a fucking goalkeeper.

Liverpool isn't having much luck with VAR and officiating this season. Add to that injuries and a lackluster run of form, you'll forgive me if I'm not in the mood for banter about some call United didn't get yesterday against Burnley.

Count your blessings when it comes to officiating decisions and VAR as it pertains to being a Manchester United supporter so far this season. You're doing fine.

I understand the end of the plays was different for each team. I am fully on board for fixing VAR somehow. The FA absolutely needs to fix it, or have the ability to discipline after the game is over (cards be given, fines, etc.). I am aware that United have benefited from it, that doesn't mean I think it works great. I would rather be in 4th and have VAR be 100% than sitting a top the table with how shitty it is. We are both calling for VAR to be fixed, regardless of what team is being rooted for.

Here is a tracker of VAR that ESPN seems to be updating match to match.

Pickford's "challenge" wasn't even reviewed in the Everton match. They did manage to take away the winning goal, however.

Thank God for VAR. Pretty clear from those stats the on field refs have been showing favoritism towards Liverpool. Luckily there is a system in place to overturn the biased officiating.

When it was first instituted, I saw a lot of fans that said "great, just another mechansim to benefit the bigger clubs. Nothing will change." Truthfully, the only matches I can truly point to and say Liverpool really lost points was Everton and Brighton. Those two results were taken. Everything else is happenstance, but the consistency is awful. Yes, Liverpool is -5 but when you look at some of the handball calls and no calls, the offsides by a cunt hair vs no offsides, there is zero consistency.

I could post photos of various examples, but nobody gives a shit.

Only coincidence I can find is that no one from La Liga has won the last two Champions Leagues since UEFA instituted VAR in Europe, but I think there are other factors in play there.

United will win Sunday 1-0 in the 90th minute on a Bruno PK. You'll be six points clear and the Anfield home winning streak will be over. It will also be their first win against the "Big 6" this season.

Don't know this for a fact, I just know it to be true.

City is the favorite right now.

Until Liverpool finds a real CB, they won’t play the ball into space and they won’t score. United can’t beat anyone in the Big Six. They both need to solve that.

Liking City’s form right now.

Curious why liverpool hasn't purchased some CB who is...you know...a CB. Doesn't even need to be an elite one.

City has four very winnable games before the Liverpool matchup. Need all 12 points from those games.

Matthew Hoppe, 19 year old American who moved from Orange County SC to Schalke last year, has now scored 5 goals in 3 consecutive games for their sinking ship. He's doing everything he can for them to stave off relegation, but they gave up a 93rd minute goal today that made them lose the point.

Great to see, the way he is playing even if Schalke get relegated he will almost certainly get picked up by a Bundesliga side in the summer.

The more options USMNT have as a number 9 moving forward can only be a good thing. Especially seeing for about 7-10 years all we had was Jozy (who fun fact never scored a goal at a World Cup)

Fortunate result for City today, kind of result you need to win the title at the end of season. The offsides rule is confusing in the situations which happened today, but by the letter of law it was a "fair" goal. Although, I admit if I was a Villa fan I would be pissed.
