I would have bet on Liverpool to lose at Wolves yesterday, at the very least drop points. To come away with all three points is pretty massive.

Hoping for the best with Sadio Mane. Thought the new boy came in and played steady. Kept it safe and close to the chest.

Just keep winning....

I knew Liverpool was gonna claim all 3 when Jimenez was dribbling up the middle of their defense and Adama was streaking WIDE open on the right for what would have been a probable goal with only the keeper to beat. Didn't even look at him. 2 minutes later, 'pool takes the lead.

Mane is nearly irreplaceable in Klopp's scheme, because Klopp's scheme is almost unique. It's the only thing I watch where the midfield doesn't act like classical midfield at all. Attack doesn't come from foot-clever midfielders buffooning opponents with magic mostly down the center and then feeding strikers (as brilliantly illustrated by, say, DeBruyne-to-Aquero), but by wingbacks taking charge of midfield yardage and then finding super-clever strikers also at the wings (fed by them and Firmino --- the other utterly non-classic "9".)

Mane is perfect for this. He's so good getting the ball wide after opponents have already been stretched by Liverpool's wingbacks, he demands double hasty coverage and beats it anyway. Plus he's oddly strong, and fast, and willing to come all the way back to help Robertson's side. He's more willing to pass than Salah (who plays more like a selfish bent-to-the-right "9"), and he and BobbieF have great chemistry.

So what does Liverpool's midfield do? I have been glad to hear the commentators finally waking up to how different and uber-significant they are. This is NOT at all a typical midfield. It doesn't have to be DeBruyne-level (Modric, Silva, Iniesta et al) clever, nor borderline roughhouse dirty like some others (though Fabinho has a tinge of that.) Liverpool's midfield is Henderson and Wynaldum and Milner-like. They are made for whole game brave combat. They are the werewolves of what should become the modern game. They throw themselves at the ball wherever it's flying. (Sort of like Arturo Vidal when he's behaving himself.) "Work Rate"out of the Chart.

Someone asked USWNT team star Julie Ertz how she wanted to play. "Like a Calm Maniac," she said. THAT's Henderson and Wynaldum ... and Fabinho didn't get it at first, but is now on board. Firmino and Milner already had the genes for it. Mane has now got it too. (Salah doesn't.) People gushed over the signing of Nabi Keitha ("What a talent!") Well, yes --- but he DOESN'T get the needed Liverpool New Era Midfield style. Shakiri has tried but is largely lost running around ineffectively. Lallana gets it. Oxlaide-Chamberlain seems to WANT to do this, but doesn't (yet) have the Henderson/Wynaldum instinct. You could bring GREAT Old-Style midfield talent into Liverpool and actually severely hurt this team.

Mane and Firmino are the perfect forwards for this Chaos-creating team style. Feast off the midfield aggression's turnovers and the never-slow-down wingbacks pressures. Fury on the field from line to line and mostly in the opponents' side. And when the fury strikes, you need a finisher who both strikes and passes, because the rest of the Fast and Furious are still moving forward. Mane: Don't get hurt.

Yo Acamp, Cincy is apparently close to a deal for Bobby Wood... isn’t that your boy?

And boy do they need to make a good move lol. They’re paying Fanendo Adi to play for Columbus, and couldn’t close the deal on Gaston Pierro.

I hope they get Wood and can sign him for two years... I’ve got it on good authority that they’re going to try and make a BIG splash next year with a signing to generate excitement in the first year of the new stadium.

Yeah I always liked Wood, at least among our national striker options... hopefully he tears it up.

In news I did not see coming, Antonee Robinson is moving to AC Milan for $13MM. He has been a top 3 LB in the Championship this year, but still did not see that coming. Hopefully Gregg doesn't forget to call him up for the next camp...

Man City banned from the next two Champion's Leagues. So at least Arsenal and United will have company not playing in Europe.

https://www.espn.com/soccer/tottenh...appeal-to-officially-change-name-to-Tottenham

A man in Sweden has won an appeal to change his name to Tottenham.

David Lind is a supporter of the north London club and wanted to change his name after Spurs reached the Champions League final last season.

Lind was one of three winners in a competition open to people who wanted to change their name to their favourite English side.

In June, he was denied the right to change it after sending his application to the authority Skatteverket but the decision has been overturned on appeal.

"That it goes through now is almost like scoring goals in injury time," Lind told Swedish publication Expressen.

"I've been waiting for it. I also know that several people have appealed and taken this further.

"I thought this day would come. But now it has taken so long that I thought they ran out of sand a little."

Spurs return to Premier League action after their winter break when they travel to Aston Villa on Sunday.

For the second year in a row, FC Cincy had to fire a manager two weeks before the season because of off-field issues.

THINGS ARE GREAT.

I can't imagine he will be there much longer either way. I wonder if Italy is on the horizon.

He needs a checkbook. Sarri won't leave Juve any time soon.

Tuchel doesn't seem to handle the egos well in his boot room at PSG. I have to assume if Pep leaves City, that's where he'd go. Or he manages the Spain National Team?

Not sure. I just enjoy seeing him triggered on the touchline whenever possible. He seems like a decent enough guy, but watching Liverpool live in his head entirely rent free has been fun.

concacaf champions league starts today...

Yup. NYCFC has a tricky fixture in Costa Rica on Thursday then they return to play at Red Bull Arena. Such a tone deaf decision by management. Only good that came from it is confirmation that a stadium is in the pipeline hopefully this decade :eek:hwhateve

Pretty much right next to Yankee Stadium. It's actually a really impressive plan from what all sources are indicating. The NYT released a piece saying it was gonna be a 25K soccer specific stadium, and then the NYCFC front office pretty much came out confirming the plans, except that they are even more ambitious and bigger. No idea if that means that the stadium will seat more than 25K or just have some cool features, but either way, I can't imagine it being ready before the 2023 season.

Simeone wanted no part of Liverpool yesterday. The early goal was a nice bonus for them. Ten men behind the ball the entire match. Shithouse tactics with guys doing Neymar impersonations falling and rolling around whenever some got near them. Klopp subs off Mane and Salah, basically condeding "It's 1-0 and we'll see you at Anfield."

Really felt like Simeone gave Liverpool a lot of respect in that match, though they play everyone that way. He knew the best team in the world was there and they locked it down.

The post match interview was enough for me. Andy Robertson looks like he wants to play them again right now.

I thought for sure Dortmund and PSG would've been 5-4 or something like that. Would love to see PSG go out.
