I always find these points odd....are you honestly going to tell me with a straight face that Liverpools two league matches against Manchester United and two versus Everton were bigger more important games for the reds this year then the five points they dropped to City?

Whether or not that makes the games a rivalry is a mute point and subjective...but if you honestly think City vs Liverpool for the foreseeable future in England is not the biggest game of the year, whenever it happens, you're out of your mind.

Enjoy your champions league trophy, you guys earned it.

We will see you next year, cannot wait!

I stated who the club and their supporters feel their traditional rivals are. I may or may not have typed it with a straight face.

Apart from that, there have been periods where Liverpool's "biggest" matches of the year when they were actually contending were against Arsenal, United, Chelsea and now it's City. These moments change from season to season. Liverpool has contended for a title twice in the last 5-6 years and both times came in 2nd to City.

Social media plays a major role in this, especially over in England. There is a brigade of City fans that have gone out of their way to seek out Liverpool fans. It's mostly troll on troll crime perpetrated by both sets of supporters. Both sets of supporters have individuals that know enough not to engage. The majority of Everton and United supporters on social media seemed to hitch their wagons to City. A lot of other neutrals did too. I know Newcastle supporters, for example, that were pulling for Liverpool. I know other Newcastle supporters, those who reside in England, who hate Jordan Henderson because he came from Sunderland and as Liverpool's captain these Toon Army members went for City.

There were a fair amount of neutrals on social media as well that just hated on Liverpool and weren't even pulling for City to win so much as they wanted to see Liverpool fall short. It often feels like over there you have to choose a side as a neutral, whereas if New England plays the NY Giants in a Super Bowl, I am fine watching the commercials and not caring who wins.

Ultimately, which side of the pond you're on and how dialed in you are to the other along with social media play an important part in the perspective of all of this. I believe. I could be, and most likely am, incredibly wrong.

Just heard we upset France in the U20s... nice!

Wasn't luck either, we outplayed them. Once we got the lead, instead of bunkering we actually held the ball decently and killed the game well. This is the most talened U20 team ever and has a real chance to win the damn thing. It's the first time in US history the U20 squad hasn't used a single college player.

Our attacking players are stealing all the shine as they should. Weah and De La Fuente will be playing UCL soccer. Soto and Ledesma will have long careers in Europe. Pomykal and Servania will have Top 5 League careers if they want to leave MLS. Gloster may solve our LB problem. But the best player in this group is Chris Richards... Bayern signed him from FC Dallas originally as a loan and then bought him. We're seeing why. Best CB I have seen at the U20 level in a US shirt.

My man, there were countless Liverpool fans on social media celebrating whenever a City player got a serious injury throughout the year. I saw many of them responding to City's official twitter account when a long term absence was officially announced. Every team has terrible fans, and sadly it is not going anywhere either.

Also, if you really want to do a deep dive on this...many city fans believe that Liverpool and their owner John Henry (as I'm sure you already know) have been a driving force in trying to get City in trouble for FFP regulations with UEFA and the PL.

Lastly, many City fans and team officials were deeply offended by how their team bus was treated by Liverpool fans last year during the Champions League QF, and how the Liverpool police did almost nothing to stop the assault from happening before or during it. This isn't the 1970's...I don't think it is too much to ask supporters to not throw rocks and glass bottles at opposing team buses.

There is good reason for both sets of fans to not like the other, and hopefully more civility will prevail next year...but I wouldn't hold my breath.

There wasn't even room for Brendan Aaronson on the roster. He's got a future in Europe too if he wants to go eventually.

Yep or James Sands who has been one of NYCFCs best players this year. Both misses by Tab IMO but can't fault him too much with going to 3 straight quarterfinals.

Squabbling billionaires? Go on….

Everyone from the top of the club on down to Klopp and the players apologized for this. I don’t condone it, I wasn’t there to take part in it, so I’m not sure what more needs to be done to make that right. I was happy no one was hurt or seriously injured.

There is good reason for both sets of fans to not like the other, and hopefully more civility will prevail next year...but I wouldn't hold my breath.

City took 4/6 points from Liverpool last year. My hope is that changes this next season. Apart from that, any club singing songs about Steven Gerrard slipping when they’re playing Crystal Palace can carry on with it. That’s rent free living right there and I’m amused by it unapologetically. Live in the moment.

Cheers

1. Friendly or not, a sad performance for the USA vs Jamaica yesterday.

2. Sounds like Hazard to Real is closer to being done. Real is beginning to rebuild. Jovic and Hazard will expedite that process.

4. Word of a City bid for Joao Felix at $120M. Holy crap on a cracker.

5. Still buzzing.

Lmao. Please City. Drop $120M on him. I'm begging you.

Ideally this doesn't happen for a multitude of reasons.

Look at what Real just paid for Jovic. If this "informal bid" is accurate, how the hell is it good for anyone?

A transfer purchase like this HAS TO have problems attached to it. What good is FFP if there isn't?

Would have liked to see Wood, Nagbe, Carter-V. Finally seeing Yedlin and Brooks officially off (I know they are hurt) is a bit of a gut punch... and why keep Josh Sargent and Jonathan Amon off the U20 roster if they weren't going to be included here? WTF is that? Also, I've always been a fan, defender of both Omar and Bradley but I do think it's time to move on for both...

a 4-5-1 triangle midfield of Pulisic at CAM with McKennie and Adams playing a deeper role is perfect for this team, yet Berhalter is blindly loyal to Wil Trapp forcing Adams who is probably the second best player on this team to RB. frustrating. If Yedlin was healthy that'd likely force one of the two to the bench and they are the top players on this team.

The Sargent omission is curious to everyone.

My biggest take from this roster is the "win now" feel it has to it. They want to win this Gold Cup and worry about the development of the younger guys later. I think it's a good choice. If their thought is winning the Gold Cup to boost momentum for the program and then start working in the new faces, I'm fine with that.

I think the loaned him out,... but my point is what went wrong?? Even the injuries don’t account for everything here.

Probably a little overrated + 2 ACLs in your peak development years are crushing. By the time he hit the U20 World Cup I think in 2015, he was good for us but not great. Case of a player peaking a little too early probably, and the injuries derailed him even more + Arsenal bump.

The correct answer would have been "Jürgen Klinsmann"....

The Sargent decision doesn't make any sense, if it was still even a question of whether or not he would be in the squad then he should've gone with the u20s..

Sucks seeing Adams listed as a defender. Obviously Yedlin being healthy would push Adams into midfield but really sucks we apparently decided that taking him out of midfield is the best option.

Would have taken CCV over Omar, it's just time to move on...disagree about taking Nagbe, he looks the part in MLS but his MNT performances have not been acceptable. If anything, it's time to give Alfredo Morales a shot.

Sargent?????????????? Good Lord USA, get this kid some playing time with the rest of the big boys!!! He's the only point striker we have (in my opinion) with excellent foot skills in tight places to set not only himself up but other forwards. Guys like Altidore and Bobby Wood (who probably should have made this team) have some skills, but both are relative blunderfoots comparatively when it comes to subtler cleverness.

As to Bradley and his haters: Alexi and almost all the pro-commentators have said all season that he is the solidest player we have as a defensive midfielder and stabilizer on the team, and on the practice field. We still need Michael Bradley.

So yeah, I'm seeing the reactions of many to the Gold Cup roster now and yikes,.. I said "less enthused than I thought I'd be" and yeah, I was a bit underwhelmed. The general reaction has been ridiculous though, calling for Berhalter to step down has been pretty par for the course... lol

Decided to watch the Jamaica game and concentrate on Sargent.

Positive: he was playing a 9 like Harry Kane plays it --- and showed really good last second cuts to try to buffoon the centerbacks, and often did. Rarely was there anything like a good cross to him, yet he got space several times. His touches were almost always completed to a teammate despite the generally bad feeds. He rarely gave the ball away if given half a chance. He did have the US's two best shots at scoring.

Negative: he was playing a 9 like Harry Kane plays it --- that is, not pressing, not busting ass, saving himself for the attack. That is a positive or a negative depending upon what the coach tells him, but if there is a desire to press even a tiny bit like Liverpool (rather than Tottenham), then Josh didn't resemble Bobby Firmino, nor even Bobby Wood. While looking at him, even with the extremely clever space-finding moves, I wondered if he's in good soccer-running shape. He CAN run, just didn't do it much.

Maybe the coach wants his 9 to help the press more, and sees Zardez that way. If so, why have Altidore?

The USMNT defended like complete garbage yesterday. That was tough to watch.

Disappointed in the U20 boys loss to Ecuador, but they were fun and had a good run.

The Netherlands are a number 9 away from being the best team in the world. That final third kills them when they otherwise are very good in the back and the middle of the park.

The Dutch have been one or two players away from being the world's best a few different times in their history... prob the best national program in the world to have never reached that elite final tier (Winning a world cup or generally being see as THE team).

This US team desperately needs Yedlin, Brooks, Pulisic, and Adams in the lineup at all times. At least we will see 2 of the 4.
