Eh, I'll watch but since that rose bowl loss, 'excitement' is not a word I would use...

They feel like the mid 1990's Angels right now... I love them, I'll watch, but I'm not going to invest much beyond that because I expect them to lose every meaningful match in the foreseeable future.

Martial at 6 seems high and Mahrez at 47 seems low IMO

I agree, I don't know if I see the galactic-superstar potential in Martial that his rating seems to suggest and that other people seem to see. He's a promising talent and he had a good season for a moribund attacking team this year, but valuing him at £86 million, between Harry Kane and Luis Suarez?? I don't see him turning into a striker of that caliber. But maybe he will start to prove me wrong this summer--although we should be cautious in drawing any conclusions no matter what he does, bearing in mind that Mario Balotelli was a young star who appeared to break out at Euro 2012, and ultimately that didn't work out too well for him or anybody.

By the way, to go off an a tangent, it is sad what has happened to Italian soccer over the last 10 years. This has to be the weakest Italian team in a major tournament for a long time. Again, I hope they prove me wrong.

Oh, yeah, my expectations are low. But it will be fun to watch the USMNT compete in a meaningful match against a great side . . . . Well, "meaningful" should be in quotes. I don't know if you can have a meaningful match in a tournament that just makes no sense whatsoever.

Eh, winning the thing would be the biggest deal in USMNT history... and two years ago I'd have been all in... but now?? they don't inspire much confidence...

I'll call it... they'll lose bad today, get four-six points in their remaining games and MAYBE squeak through to the knockouts only to get embarrassed by Mexico on home soil.... again.

Your prediction is on track so far ...

My expectations for the USMNT were always low and are lower now, but it doesn't dampen my enthusiasm for the tournament, just as a soccer fan. Excited to see a how a Neymar-less Brazil copes tonight.

Tough to keep up this enthusiasm after such a boring day yesterday. Brazil was a snooze-fest last night. Let's hope Mexico/Uruguay is better today.

I'm falling in love with Bobby Wood.... He reminds me of the hot head on your baseball team that charges in on every bench clearing situation... It's good to have a fighter on the squad.

Costa Rica's goalie (back-up to the phenomenal, but hurt, Kaylor Navas) nickname is La Eterna Estatua, or, the “Eternal Statue.” And it is not because they have a statue erected in his honor - dude is known to have lead feet. It showed on Wood's goal.

Great turn, well placed shot, but my lord, that goalie has sloooooooowwwww feet.

Big win for the US. I usually get things wrong, but I called this one to my skeptical co-workers today. I said 3-0, simply because as poorly as they looked against Columbia, they did show me signs of attacking soccer in that game, and they looked very sharp with this system/lineup in previous games. I'm still not a Klinnsman fan at all, but this was a nice win for the squad.

Looking back on some of their chances, it's a bummer that the match didn't end 5-0.

(6-0 if I'm being really ridiculous, but I don't know enough about soccer to bitch about all the times Zardes was in/around the box and made poor turns)

Agreed, Zardes was criminally wasteful in the first half. Glad it didn't hurt us.

Also agree with Hollywood that Wood was a little fortunate. Navas or any reasonably athletic goalie absolutely would have saved that. Still, I LOVED the composure. Like Holden said during the telecast, true striker's goal. Wood looked like Sergio Aguero there, getting the ball with his back to goal, turning and getting the shot on target. Oozed confidence.

Paraguay wanted it more tonight in the second half, and Columbia were a little lucky to take all 3 points, if you ask me. U.S. will have to work hard to get a result against them.

I was at the game with the Outlaws. Best sporting experience of my life. We met at the Weather Mark bar and a near lot around 1:30 to commence tailgating/partying and it did not disappoint. The beer and shots were flowing and everyone is so superbly friendly. Bein Sports came to the party even. Some kid was there and had a big Jermaine Jones picture from the snowy Costa Rica game, and then, got a fan blasting stuff that was like snow.

The march to the stadium was incredible. I'd guesstimate 8k to 10k fans filled the streets of Chicago from the Weather Mark to Soldier Field doing all the AO chants along the way. Two buddies came with me. One was a big fan already, the other didn't know much about the game. This experience alone turned him into a huge fan.

The game itself was absolutely awesome. Great crowd for a Tuesday night. Jermaine Jones entirely redeemed himself. Bradley was MUCH better, and Guzan had a great presence. Bobby Wood will be a star, and Gyassi "Feet of stone" Zardes I didn't think was all that bad. My favorite performances of the night though came from John Brooks and Deandre Yedlin. I thought Yedlin was nothing short of spectacular in defense, his movement on and off the ball, and his crossing. Brooks is just such a massive defender that it is amazing he can do what he can on the ball. These two very young players will be massive for us in the next two world cups.

All in all, tonight was the most amped I have ever been after a win for any sport. I get in the scheme of things it might not mean much, but it was just an awesome time. If you have never sat with with the American Outlaws, or at least attended the pregame party and the march to the stadium, I HIGHLY recommend it.

I've tried to start an Outlaws chapter here in town but I've been referred to the closest chapter in the past (about 45 minute drive without traffic).... so I continue to go it alone...

I am def jealous of nd though... would love to have an experience like that...

I say just join the nearest chapter... Even if you only make it to 1 or 2 game watches a year it's worth it for the tickets and exclusives on gear you'll get. IMO.

Payet with an absolute screamer of a goal for France. The dude is playing out of his mind the last few months.
