You guys should keep Van Gaal. He really did better than he should of this year with that team and gave a lot of young guys experience. Rashford will be a stud and Fosu-Mensah has a bright future.

Ugh, I have to say, I'm still smarting from that Reds loss. As a LFC fan, I feel like we are experiencing a worse version of what Spurs fans are going through. Spurs fans probably didn't necessarily expect to win the league this year, but to get SO CLOSE and then fall short had to suck (but at least they still had a great season and are in Champs League). Similarly, most LFC fans probably didn't expect to qualify for Champs League in Klopp's first (partial) season; obviously a new manager needs time to build a squad or at least train it. But to get SO CLOSE and then fall short ... sucks.

The silver lining is that we finished outside the Europa League places so Klopp will have more time to train with his guys next year. Europa League, as they say, is the "poisoned chalice." For all but one club, it's not worth the time and effort, considering that it comes with the risk that your squad will wear out or get injured. I'm excited to see what Klopp can do with a full year to focus on nothing but domestic football.

It'll be great.

I'm anxious to see what the Klopp has planned. Will be very disappointed if not top 4 next season. Wouldn't be shocked at a title challenge either.

Berlusconi just said he's not gonna pay AC players if they keep sucking and said "they can try to sue but civil cases take 8 years in Italian court" LOL

This does not surprise me at all. I hate when Man City does business with Italian clubs, we always end up paying way too much or receiving far too little. Last year, Jovetic was sent to Inter on a loan with an obligation for Inter to buy at the end of the loan, and unsurprisingly, Inter now want to get out of the deal in any way possible. Italian owners just suck.

Interested to see what Liverpool can do in the transfer window. Then again, Balo and tekkers were supposed to be successful and they flopped.

I wonder if they will do all that much without any Euro games on the calendar... I saw some article where before the loss in the final many were expecting some combination of Gotze, Reus and Lewandowski.... or all three (I lol'd so hard I almost died)

Now it's like:

True, although tekkers didn't improve under Klopp. I'd have to assume he just doesn't fit Klopps system?

I believe that is the case.

Gotze is still atainable I think. I wouldn't have believed Lewa coming....even if he was actually playing for them, my mind wouldn't accept that.

Celtic looks to be in decent position for both Brendan Rodgers and American striker Emerson Hyndman...

Yeah, the Goetze rumors seem to be credible, I think there is serious interest, although I haven't heard anything concrete that might suggest that it's even close to a done deal or anything like that. It makes sense, reuniting with Klopp and all that. Lewa and Reus do not make sense ... why would either leave? I never heard any credible rumors that they would.

But I don't know if Klopp is necessarily going to make a big splash in the transfer market in terms of name-brand players. I get the impression that he is more of a builder than a buyer.

I recall that he said this at his introductory press conference:

Asked whether Liverpool could attract a player of the calibre of Marco Reus without Champions League football, having failed to entice several targets during Rodgers’ reign, Klopp replied: “I absolutely don’t care about this.

“If we cannot sign a player like him then we are not interested in him. We will have to take other players. The whole world plays football, there are players everywhere.

“It is only here that money is such a big thing. It is money, money, money. OK, there is much money. You don’t have to spend all the money. You can hold it and make something else. Of course, not having Champions League football is a problem, it is a negative. Of course, it should be a target for all ambitious teams to play in the Champions League, for sure. But only four go in. You have to fight for it, not just talk about it. You don’t have to speak always.

“You have to look at which players are reachable and not dream of this player or that player and then say: ‘But they don’t want to come to Liverpool.’ If a player doesn’t want to come to Liverpool then stay away. Really. If you think about the weather, stay away. If you think about other things, stay away. If you want to come here, you are welcome. That is the first and most important issue.”

For a moment there all the rumors sounded like the Hummels deal might have been a gentleman's swap with Gotze going back home but the Ousmane Dembele signing might have changed that... it'll be a roller coaster and I'm sure the 'feel' will change a few times over before it concludes... A talent of Gotze's size wasting away like that is criminal, he deserves better.

On the conclusion note, it looks like Mkhitaryan is going to England.... he never really seemed happy at Dortmund anyway... hopefully that opens the door for that long term with Gundogan or helps with a possible Gotze move.

Gundogen is going to city unless we feel his most recent injury is too big of a deal. He wants to be with pep

Midfielder*.

Doubt he goes there. All the big clubs in Europe are after him, with Dortmund and AC Milan leading the pack from the sounds of it. I'd rather he go somewhere a little smaller to get more PT right away, but if he thinks he can compete at that level then I say go for it and get a nice pay day too.

There is zero chance they ship both Gundogen and Mkhitaryan, of course the roller coaster rule applies here too so everything can shift like a riverbed but as of right now Henrikh Mkhitaryan is leaving....

.

Don't ask me why I put "striker'??? I guess I my mind was on attack and just went there... my understanding (haven't watched too much of him yet) is he's pretty fast so I assume he likes to push up...

If gundogen isn't at city next year, it will be because we deemed his injury too severe. Everything else is irrelevant.

Yes, because other clubs have zero say on keeping their own players, who are under contract, when mighty city is involved...

A dislocated kneecap really shouldn't be that big a deal.

I've heard up to 5 months. With the CL qualifier in August, plus the fact that we have an incredibly flawed squad that could see up to 6 or 7 first team players come in, we might decide to pass.

I've heard that he has a release clause. In that case..

Plus, watzke pretty much said he expected ilkay, mk, and hummels to be gone this summer

I'm telling you the important factor here is Mkhitaryan... if he moves, (which right now seems likely, but we know how that can go in Euro soccer) there is zero chance Gundy or anyone else of note goes anywhere... it's been flat out stated numerous times that of the three in question, Hummels, Gundy and MK, they can not and will not move all three...
