Great day for United States Soccer. Really wish the beautiful game would catch on in this country. It slowly is and its great to see some members of this forum follow it closely....one day one day.

I'm sure it was a fine effort. Yay USA!!!

That said, it will never, EVER be considered a main stream sport when **** like this is allowed and is a practiced act in the game... This kind of stuff makes me sick.

It's not a "beautiful game" when 22 guys act like the just got pumped full of lead by a sniper up in the light standards. Bunch of jakes, I say... :)

Yet America's mainstream sport has spawned some pretty horrid **** such as serial pedos, lack of moral character, an onus placed on winning over education, the exploitation of student-athletes, and the list goes on. Soccer will never catch on though  It's the largest youth sport in America now, by far. Just a side of perspective with your side of hate. :mob:

I've played it a few times for organized PT in the Army, but other than that I've never played. I did play, football, basketball and ran track to stay in shape for football. That's it, and I have absolutely 100% fallen in love with the sport of soccer. I watch football season, and soccer for the rest of the year, that's it. :soccer:

I'm not hating...just a friendly reminder that soccer games sometimes resemble mime shows....the greatest of all shadow contact side shows. I can do research and find just as many twisted/disturbing stories with the "beautiful game" as what has popped up in American sports. Remember Diego Maradona? When he wasn't out snorting the midfield line, he was snorting lines off of some chicks arse.

Moral of the story is, there are screwed up people all across the sports spectrum...... Just not everyone falls down and screams in pain for 45 minutes and makes a miraculous recovery to run down the field at a 9.65 sec. clip to to phantom assault his opponent on the other end of the field. That, my friend is why they are a bunch of jakes.

This is true its sad that diving has really become an art form in soccer but there are faults in all sports.

Basketball the way it is beginning to be played is almost unbearable to watch. No sense of a team anymore, no movement without the ball. Just straight street ball
Baseball is just boring. I know a lot of people love it and that's fine. But watching a baseball game on tv is brutal. In person its nice entertainment though(Hockey is similar)
Football-Haha nothing wrong to be honest. It's the perfect game in my humble opinion. More than likely why its so popular.

Soccer is 24/7 365. The European leagues lasts 8-9 months out of the year. Then every summer there is a big competition such as the World Cup, Euro's, Copa America, or the Confederations Cup. I challenge anyone to give soccer a real chance and not come away a fan.

I did enjoy watching they US women play during the Olympiad. They played with fire and tact and not once did I see them take a dive to draw a foul. Maybe it's the men's game. Maybe it's the euro way to gain attention.... I don't know. I don't pay it enough attention to care, but when I do, I see crap resembling my youtube link and lose interest really quick.

Every sport isn't for everyone... I can't remember how I ever watched basketball... So I see it... And the flopping of certain players/teams and yes, even cultures bothers me also...

I too love watching our women, wide open style, exciting and Alex Morgan could get me to break my vows... But anyway I freakin love soccer... And loath things like NASCAR and basketball... So I see how any given sport can have " something" about it...

Yeah, you're hating. Why deny it? You are VERY consistent in your hatred of soccer and your constant reminder to tell us why the sport sucks seemingly every time why try to enjoy something about the sport. If that's not hating, I don't know what is.

Diving and acting like you've been shot is a major black-eye on the sport and is something we're all aware of all embarrassed by. We don't need you to constantly remind us about it. But not everyone who plays soccer is a 'jake'. Just like not everyone who plays college football is a 'thug'. Do you go on every thread calling football players thugs? Because there a ton of them out there. Same with basketball (shoot, Stacy Augmon, the Plastic Man, was a straight up gangster from Pasadena). BFD. Every sport has to deal with it.

So we get it...you hate soccer and you hate the dudes that take dives and all that. Got it. Can you let it go now and let soccer fans have their thread without you having to remind everyone how much you hate it? The thread title isn't deceiving...just ignore the thread and everyone will be happy...

HCTI if you actually watched the game how many dives did you see tonight by the USA? I saw maybe one at most. Mexico had a couple blatantly obvious dives, but it was only a couple. One of the reasons I really like the USMNT is because they usually don't take sh*t physically from no one, they aren't afraid to muscle you. We do have a couple players who dive such as Dempsey and Agudelo, but for the most part its not bad with the USMNT. I can't believe we even need to talk about this after an awesome win like that.

Tim Howard gets MVP for the game, but Geoff Cameron is a close second IMO. He played lockdown defense the whole game. On Chicharito to boot. You will be seeing him a lot in the next few years. I would love to see that backline with a midfield of Brek Shea, Michael Bradley, Jermaine Jones, Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey with Jozy Altidore up top(assuming we run a 4-5-1)

Howard is the ****, and Brek Shea will be our best young player next WC. I like the idea of Cameron and Goodson in the center. WOW what a win. I wanted a little more out of Castillo but he did well enough up until he was pulled ( obviously tired). A young USMNT goes into Aztecta and wins. I still can't believe it. Poor Howard, that guy with the laser needs to be found and beaten mercilessly.

A win at the Azteca, a win in Italy, a trouncing of Scotland,... I know there are subtexts for each game, but this is so great!

I kind of like the idea of Boyd and Jozy up front even though they are similar players. If they could occupy the central defenders, imagine the runs donovan and dempseycould make....Bradley is playing out of his skull right now.... I have not been this happy for a long time.

OK end word salad......:)

I absolutely agree with every single word of this post. Particularly Alex Morgan.....My wife hates it when I watch the USWNT.....cause she knows.....

Living here in SC everyone I know is all, "so who's yer driver man?" I answer I don't like NASCAR and I would rather watch Formula 1 and they slowly walk away from me like I am a leper.....

I really, really like Boyd. He has been a star and fan favorite already with his Austrian club through like just 7 matches. Come next world cup, it will be interesting to see what our forwards are going to look. We will have Altidore as the front runner, but Boyd and Torres will be on his tail, and will Juan Agudelo reemerge? I think Agudelo, once healthy for a full season, is going to set the MLS on fire. Hell, what about Charlie Davies? What if he reemerges too? We could actually have a pretty deep World Cup squad come 2014. I am really excited in the direction Klinnsmen(spelling) has this team going.

Nice post. I agree with Boyd, he looks a real steal and seems to really enjoy playing for the U.S.A(I follow him on twitter).

The main thing Jurgen has to figure out before 2014 imo is ball contol. Torres is not the answer in my eyes. I dont watch him club level, but every time for the nat'l team he just looks out of his element. What this team needs before 2014 in a in-form and healthy Stuart Holden. He is the answer in my eyes, but the chances of him being healthy when the tournament comes around are 50-50.

Also, Jurgen has to get a final answer from Timmy Chandler. He would be one of our best players in 2014. I can see why hes holding out for a chance to play for Germany, but we need to either cap him for the Jamaica games or move on and call-up Eric Lichaj who also played well for (AV) last year.

This team has some promise we finally have a bonafide stud in the midfield in Bradley(see Claudio Reyna) We might never get a better chance to get to a World cup semi's berth then 2010 every thing just set up perfectly, but if we find a striker out of (Boyd and Altidore) and work on the defense Cameron looks a player I dont see why we cant dream for one in 2014.

Also, Donovan better not retire after 2013. I mean com'on id be crushed.

Blame the Iberians and South Americans. Now it's spread everywhere, but not everyone is an artist. I know there are horrid people in every sport man, just giving you some ****. You do, however, show up in every soccer thread and bash the sport, so I think you're hating dude. I certainly agree that diving pisses me off, especially when it results in a pen or seriously changes the game. It's akin to a ref blowing a call.

I do find that men dive MUCH more than women. On my college team, it was easy to tell the divers from the ones who hustle. Divers are arrogant and hate being beaten or missing a chance to score because "it makes them look bad." I was a wing player in my college career, if I messed up, you can bet your balls I would hustle down the field to play defense and more times than not, I got my mistake back by making a stop on defense. Some soccer players are very arrogant of their skills. "They are so good at ball control" that no one should be able to steal from them or stop them in the penalty box. So if that happens, to them, it must have been a foul.

Diving pisses off more than just soccer fans, it pisses off other soccer players and even their teammates, but dont act like soccer is the only sport that does it. Basketball is getting pretty bad these days too.

If Holden is ever healthy he'll take Torres's role. The thing about Torres is that he is a horrible defender, so playing against teams like Mexico who dominate possession is just showcasing his worst abilities without being able to show his best (passing). The ideal 2014 lineup at this point IMO would be

--------------------Howard------------------
---Fabian---Cameron---Boca---Chandler---
---------------------Jones--------------------
----------Bradley-----------Holden----------
----Donovan-------------------Dempsey----
-----------------Altidore/Gomez-------------

Bench: Edu, Boyd, Altidore/Gomez, Shea, Lichaj, Goodson, Rimando

With Torres, Beckerman, Ream, Orozco Fiscal, and Wondo also along.

I think you have to start Shea, he just has a knack for being in the right spots at the right time and then putting the ball in the right spot at the right time. From the little I've seen him, he has some swagger that US soccer hasn't had in some time.

I like Shea coming off the bench as a spark. 90 minutes he can get worn out. Put him in after 60 minutes and he's going to overwhelm the opponent with his size and speed. Boyd & Shea both have the same gift of being supremely confident, talented, and skilled. They are going to be stars for this team.

I hope Chandler sticks with us. He doesn't have much of a chance with the German team, at least to start, but he could be a star for us. Really hope he chooses to stick with the US

He's a coward. He's afraid of making a commitment. If he doesn't come for the Jamaica WCQs then he probably will never be cap-tied. He's really exactly what the US needs though which is why this is so frustrating.

One interesting thing I've seen is the possibility of playing Brek Shea at left back. Shea was initially a defender when he came into the league and he's extremely versatile. It's not the craziest idea and if it works it could be a huge gamechanger. I could see Klinnsman trying it.

That's the one, and everything you said happened. If you haven't seen the documentary "The Two Escobars" (shame on you), do yourself a favor and watch it immediately. One of the best docs I've ever seen. My wife was enthralled with it, it was so good. I showed it to my 8th and 7th grade students, 10 minutes a day, and it had absolutely nothing to do with our curriculum but I just wanted them to see what a great documentary it was, and how effed up some things are in life. They were riveted, boys and girls alike. I've never felt worse for a human being after I watched that than I did for Carlos Escobar, RIP...

I know this post is a bit old but I just came across it and had to comment. This 30 on 30 means just so much to me.
I have lived in Colombia for almost 3 years on and off. I volunteer my time and talents (Doing dance/music performances, teaching dance/music/martial arts at prisons and orphanages) to try and help this country.
After about a year being down there that 30 on 30 came out and I'll tell, it brought tears to my eyes...and still does every time I watch it. When Andres is shot, and they have the funeral...wow...and that vocal comes in "Andres Escobar queda en nuestro memoria, "..."Colombia no puede perder el partido contra la violencia..."
I have seen the violence first hand and seen its affects on all some many of the people.
That one event really killed soccer in Colombia to this day. Theres no money and all of it is affected by the drugs and non of their teams are any good.
It is just so absolutely tragic...

Real up 2-1 on Barca right now...hoping they can hold them off.

I know this is a lil late, but here a few pics from when i went to the AS Roma/Liverpool game out here at Fenway back in July. Also went to a VIP session with Roma and got to meet the team and get autographs. Meeting my all time favorite player (totti) was unbelievable

Be awesome for the neutrals, but ill be praying it doesn't happen!

Also some bad news that broke today.. Michael Bradley was hurt over the weekend and will not be available for the crucial Jamaica World Cup qualifier. Hopefully the boys can get a result without him

I just hope Celtic gets a fair enough draw that they have even a fighting chance to get out of the groups... the mid-2000s saw some great Celtic sqauds that made some very respectable CL runs... I am hoping to relive that with this young team... if only for a year or two.

Great to see Celtic qualify. The Roman Catholic in me always has a soft spot for them whenever I get a chance to watch an Old Firm Derby.

Unfortunate they weren't able to keep a hold of the Korean boy always stood out to me. Hopefully they will keep hold of Wanyama toward the end of this transfer window. I've seen him linked with Arsenal. With the champs league money im sure they wont sell him though.
